Question about Autopilot stopping and go

Hey guys,
Just got a car for a month ago and still learning, does anyone know why the car stopping too late when using autopilot? The car in front of me slow down and stop but my car always wait until last minute to slow down and stop. Is there any setting to adjust the car to slow down when the car in front of you slow down? I always afraid the car might not stop in time. No FSD or Enhanced Autopilot.

That’s just how it is. It’s not smooth in a lot of situations.

I also don't like the late braking. I usually switch off the autopilot when I can judge already from afar that stopping will be necessary, to slow down gently. Sometimes I even shift into neutral in such situations.

The autopilot is by far not clever enough to judge traffic light phase lengths and various other conditions that are foreseeable for an attentive human driver. It still feels like a mechanical device. I say this, although I do like the autopilot and use it often.

Although it doesn’t always stop smoothly, AP has never failed to stop in time for me.

Max follow distance will help. But still on the late side of comfort. Be more efficient too if it started sooner. I think part of it is my force of habit of breaking sooner/more efficiently.
