Range on Performance Upgrade Option

Exciting to see that the Tesla Model Y is now on the Tesla page and you can configure them for order!

My only question is why is the Performance upgrade option range at 280 miles versus the "stealth" performance edition which is estimated at 315 miles? Is it simply due to the bigger wheels?

Heavy concrete block wheels, 21 inch Uberturbine weight 68.4 front wheels and 70lbs rear wheels. For performance vehicle these wheels are too damn heavy. If you upgrade to lighter wheel set, you may get that range or near that range.
The WEIGHT of the wheel is not what is reducing the range. Upgrading to lighter wheels of the same size is not going to materially impact range at all. The difference in weight between a light set of wheels and a heavy set of the same size is not even the difference in weight of a small child, and it is not going to materially impact range.

Wheel SIZE (regardless of weight) will.

This thread was also 3 years old before you bumped it, and was discussing the launching of model Y performance vehicles and wheel size.
