Red MYP delivery. Fremont build. Bad fit and paint. Thoughts?

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.
So - against my will - received home delivery of the car.

Paint has missing clear coat on drivers A pillar, blotchiness under the paint on rear three quarter.

Most panels are misaligned on front and back including of course the frunk and trunk lid. Only panels with good fit are the between doors.

Whole rear end is orange peel effect.

Under the lip of the rear hatch has the classic cracking that’s been reported a lot here.

I haven’t opened it or accepted delivery.

That sounds like a lot. What color?
Red - and it seems to be more than most people with Fremont builds are reporting.

On further inspection the car is very orange peel throughout. If this was the standard for Tesla I guess I’d love with it but car detailing YouTubers are reporting zero orange peel.

Also- I’m not reporting every defect on here but there’s a couple of fish eyes and other things I’m ok to live with.

Just feels like they need to disassemble the whole car to fix - probably cause more problems as a result.

Not sure what to do about accepting or not. It’s sitting outside on the street.

LOL that is factory orange peel…reject it and give someone else a chance to be happy!

Pics of the A pillar? That might be worth rejecting over but overall your paint looks fine to me. The cracked paint over body seam filler is present on almost every model Y.
Looking at a load of MY at the mall today and you’re right, the he orange peel is typical “feature”

Also as the cracked paint on the seam is also typical so guess I just accept that.

I’ll try to get a better picture of the clear coat. If only they’d parked it closer to the dark house I would have got my polisher out to it and see if I it was marring from bad polishing technique or thin/missing clear. As there are no swirl marks around it, I don’t think it’s dullness from bad polishing.

If your not happy with it you should reject it. This sounds like a lot of issues.
I think I’m going to be accepting of the orange peel and the sealant paint crack under the trunk handle as these are considered “normal” for a Tesla.

I’m concerned about them having to realign all fenders trunk and frunk and getting it all completely wrong / causing more issues - or is the quantity of realignment not really something to worry about as they are good enough at addressing it typically? (I bet they’ve practiced more than any other technicians at any of the other brands, that’s for sure!!)

Still figuring out if A-pillar is thin/ no clear coat or bad marring / thinning from someone who didn’t know how to use a polisher.

Most likely they will say it's "within spec". If they do start messing with panel alignment it may cause other issues. I know with things like door alignment they send it to a body shop that has the proper equipment.
