I'm pretty sure I'm done with Tesla. Going to take my $148K to another company at this point. First car was delivered with so many flaws I rejected. 2nd car they delivered to my house. Front trunk would not close, falcon door buttons didn't work, major misaligned panel. Delivery person asks if I can bring to service at later point. I told her no way I'm driving a car with a frunk that doesn't close, that's insane. So I rejected the delivery and poor delivery person is stuck in my driveway waiting for a tow cause she can't drive it either. This was supposed to be my 4th Tesla, but I'm f'ing done with this company.

Rejected mine today as well. I was hopeful with a perfect March 31st P85D in 2015 that an EoQ X could also be good.

First, the delivery staff at Fremont were very courteous and professional.

It took just a minute or two to find so many issues with our MXP that we stopped and went in to let them know. I wasn't even sure at that point that I was going to reject it. If they'd said they could have fixed everything I certainly would have been open to the option. For instance, if they convinced me the paint defects could be fixed as skillfully as Brooks Motor Cars, one of their certified body shops that is just a block away, I probably would have taken it. But the issue that finally pushed it over the edge is that the left rear bumper sticks out about a third of an inch rather than being flush with the rear quarter panel. They said that they've been seeing this a lot this week and that they think a bad batch of bumper is to blame but more importantly, they said it's not fixable and that if I accepted the car I'd have to just live with the bumper, so the very noise delivery specialist recommended that I reject the delivery.

Stuff I honestly didn't care about like:

I stopped taking pictures. The passenger side door had a pretty large scratch on the edge that was obviously damaged from the badly aligned FWD door on the passenger side.

The rear spoiler had a prominent crease on the top passenger side. None of the other spoilers seemed to have the issue. It seems like it might have been bent before it was installed.

The passenger side FWD was badly aligned on the bottom. The bottom forward edge that sits behind the passenger front door was inset about 3/4". That's not a typo.

Left headlight was not flush with the bumper. The right headlight was flush but was scratched on the top.

The drivers side FWD was PERFECTLY aligned. In fact it was the very first thing I looked at as I approached the X and I had high hopes.

The rear appliqué between the taillights stuck out about 1/3 of an inch so that you could see the foam underneath.

Lots of miscellaneous trim pieces not aligned:

There were 3 fish eyes on the front of the hood like this. There might have been more but I stopped about half way across

The paint had minor swirls from improper detailing. They had guys out there walking around wiping off the cars continually probably not realizing that they're rubbing too hard and not cycling their microfiber towelets frequently enough. I'd rather have a dusty car than one with swirls that I have to correct before PPF and ceramic.

So clearly this was rushed. Never even saw the inside. Can't imagine the issues lurking from the overall assembly.

Am I done with Tesla? Not at this point. I'm still hopeful that they can do a higher quality job of assembling a car. Hopefully a mid quarter car that isn't rushed but my fear is that the Bay Area will always get the EoQ cars because they don't need to ship those anywhere and can delivery them the day after they're done.

I ended up paying before getting there because they sent me a text that said I had to. I called them and they said I could still show up but it might be hour or more wait before I could see the car if I didn't pay before arriving. So I paid. It's not a huge deal and I'm hoping that they'll prioritize a higher quality MXP for me but that if they couldn't get me one within a month they would process a refund.

I pondered on the way home if those who've said they're cars were perfect if they really were or if I'm just being too picky and seeing things many others wouldn't have. From 5 feet away, it looks great except for the passenger side FWD alignment. If I'd accepted it instead and posted a bunch of photos from 10 feet away, I doubt anyone would have noticed.

Just received a call from Tesla to come over and pick up car between 8 pm and 12. EoQ push it is. Or they can deliver at home. I have 10 minutes to decide. Will probably go there... its 8 miles away.

Crazy stuff. Stay tuned. :)
Delivery set up for 9 pm. Given the situation of lighting at streets, I prefer Tesla lot for inspecting the vehicle.

I am in California. Tesla still have some hours to push more cars this quarter.

Um, bring lots of good flashlights. I wouldn't have found half the things I found today at night even with parking lot lights.

Omg that looks horrible and is totally unacceptable for a vehicle with that price tag. You are not being picky at all, most of those are pretty egregious. And to tell you that you have to deal with a car that has a misaligned bumper?!?! Wtf are you doing Tesla? Don’t these morons realize they’re not selling $15k Kia’s FFS…..

You’re a better man than me, I think I would have been done with this company had I encountered that.

I don't think the Kia's would have had these issues ;)
Seriously though, Tesla needs to fix their quality and stop playing these EoQ games. There isn't another EV product I'd choose over Tesla but I can still just choose to drive ICE even though I strongly prefer not to.

Another thought I had was what if I accepted this car and then took it to Brooks and said fix it. Paint whatever needs to be painted and do whatever it takes to fix the bumper. They're a Tesla only body shop and must have repaired WAY worse than this. If it cost me $5K on a brand new car to fix these exterior issues, it might still be better than rejecting. On the other hand, the exterior issues are probably the tip of the iceberg of what can't be seen.

At the time of VIN assignment on 3/3, it was 3/5-3/8. But as that got closer, it basically slid back one day per day, so 3/5-3/9 on 3/5, 3/6-3/10 on 3/6, 3/7-3/11 on 3/7, etc. This morning I had 3/31 - 4/4. Then just before noon I checked the app and saw "March 31, 2022 at 05:00 PM". Once again, there was ZERO notification to me, no text, email, or phone call.

I called the delivery center and inquired about alternatives. It basically came down to pick it up tonight or lose the VIN. The fact that I've had this VIN for 4 weeks and they've been stringing me along day by day is of course irrelevant. So I told them fine, I'll be there around 8:00. Tune in to see if the car is even ready by then, but they're not gonna get a cent of my money until I've laid eyes on it. Kinda wonder if I should have picked a different delivery center like the newly-opened Vallejo, but too late for that now.

I've said this before, it's unbelievable how different this process is compared to 2015. It felt like we were treated like royalty by comparison.

Hoping the car is at least in reasonable condition, and they actually fixed whatever it was that had it held up in QA for most of the month.

Bruce.

Agree 100% as a March 31st 2015 Model S buyer. The delivery experience was fantastic and the car was perfect....topped off with a factory tour. The staff today was very professional and courteous but the car was a mess. Hope you brought good lights to inspect with.

I ended up paying because they sent me text saying I had to first before they'd "invite" me to the delivery center. I called and they said it wasn't absolutely necessary but it would likely add several hours of wait after I got there before I could see the car. So they have my money and I don't have a car. Hoping they'll get me a higher quality example soon...one that was not rushed over a few days.

I am sad to announce that I had to pass the Model X Long range 5 seat this morning. My tesla app had edd this July until yesterday but all of a sudden this morning I was assigned Vin and Tesla asked me to take delivery tonight at 6 PM. That was extremely unexpected. The reason I cannot take the car is that I was so fed up waiting for the X, I took delivery of a Model Y 4 days ago. I cannot take 2 cars within a week. Good luck to the next person who is going to be assigned, the VIN is : 7SAXCDE53NF33874*.

Model X, Long Range, Blue exterior and white inside. Delievery center - Fremont , CA

Good luck to the person who will take this car. It's a fantastic and amazing car!

I think your blue LR was next to the my MXP that I just rejected today.

Really sorry to hear your bad experience. 😣

Am I missing something or did @bmah not post a follow up? Did you get your X @bmah? Seriously want to know! 🤩😬

WOW, just wow How the sugar in sugar sugar sugar can they deliver something like this. No one in their right mind would accept delivery of such junk. You 100% did the right thing. Sorry you had to go through that

Took delivery today. I couldn’t make it to Marina Del Rey so they drove the car 80 miles to my house. I was completely lost most of the day and annoyed the hell out of my wife complaining that the vehicle would have all types of issues and I would have a reject in my driveway and argue with them to keep my trade.

Welp, I was worried for nothing. Vehicle is in A- condition. Driver side FWD needs adjusted and Trunk needs a slight adjustment. Other than that no major issues. There are a couple of small paint runs in the door jamb but that doesn’t bother me and the car is white so it doesn’t stare at you. The delivery person opened the vehicle for me before accepting and I was able to inspect the interior as well.
