Refreshed 2021+ Model X and Model X Plaid waiting room

From my experience yesterday, what I would advise is do not give up your car until you get the X. I cancelled the Y I was going to pick up the same day I got my X VIN and turns out the VIN was un-matched so I was left without Y or X. Get all the info ready to execute, but don't execute until you get your X :)
I did the same thing as you did but with a CPO model X and it worked out fine. Tesla took care of everything. Totally seamless financing changeover and both the new and CPO VEHICLES WERE PERFECT.

My 5/21 order got bumped up from July to a slightly earlier window but I also had the Removing FSD will delay delivery message which was new. I know that adding FSD to MY orders was a "trick" to get a may 2022 delivery vs a Q3 delivery but was also told by SAs that tesla didnt like this.

Im still on the fence with FSD and locked in at 10k. If Im going to delete it I will wait for a VIN.
I recently added FSD to my 4/2021 order for $10k and the EDD never budged from July 2022.

Rejected mine today as well. I was hopeful with a perfect March 31st P85D in 2015 that an EoQ X could also be good.

First, the delivery staff at Fremont were very courteous and professional.
Sad to hear about this but hope it was just an EOQ rush job.

My EDD just moved from July to 8-29 April. Hopefully they will take their time since it's BOQ. I am nervous about quality because I will be picking up in KC which is a nearly 4 hour drive each way. Oh well, we have friends that live up there so we will visit them and if I happen to get a car then all the better. But I will be going in expecting to reject. Way to take the joy out of getting a new car Tesla!

It took just a minute or two to find so many issues with our MXP that we stopped and went in to let them know. I wasn't even sure at that point that I was going to reject it. If they'd said they could have fixed everything I certainly would have been open to the option. For instance, if they convinced me the paint defects could be fixed as skillfully as Brooks Motor Cars, one of their certified body shops that is just a block away, I probably would have taken it. But the issue that finally pushed it over the edge is that the left rear bumper sticks out about a third of an inch rather than being flush with the rear quarter panel. They said that they've been seeing this a lot this week and that they think a bad batch of bumper is to blame but more importantly, they said it's not fixable and that if I accepted the car I'd have to just live with the bumper, so the very noise delivery specialist recommended that I reject the delivery.

Driver side door scratch near the bottom. A little fuzzy but it goes all the way to the primer.

Detached rear left bumper. I honestly thought this would be an easy fix but they said it was unfixable.

Stuff I honestly didn't care about like:

I stopped taking pictures. The passenger side door had a pretty large scratch on the edge that was obviously damaged from the badly aligned FWD door on the passenger side.

The rear spoiler had a prominent crease on the top passenger side. None of the other spoilers seemed to have the issue. It seems like it might have been bent before it was installed.

The passenger side FWD was badly aligned on the bottom. The bottom forward edge that sits behind the passenger front door was inset about 3/4". That's not a typo.

Left headlight was not flush with the bumper. The right headlight was flush but was scratched on the top.

The drivers side FWD was PERFECTLY aligned. In fact it was the very first thing I looked at as I approached the X and I had high hopes.

The rear appliqué between the taillights stuck out about 1/3 of an inch so that you could see the foam underneath.

Lots of miscellaneous trim pieces not aligned:

There were 3 fish eyes on the front of the hood like this. There might have been more but I stopped about half way across

The paint had minor swirls from improper detailing. They had guys out there walking around wiping off the cars continually probably not realizing that they're rubbing too hard and not cycling their microfiber towelets frequently enough. I'd rather have a dusty car than one with swirls that I have to correct before PPF and ceramic.

So clearly this was rushed. Never even saw the inside. Can't imagine the issues lurking from the overall assembly.

Am I done with Tesla? Not at this point. I'm still hopeful that they can do a higher quality job of assembling a car. Hopefully a mid quarter car that isn't rushed but my fear is that the Bay Area will always get the EoQ cars because they don't need to ship those anywhere and can delivery them the day after they're done.

I ended up paying before getting there because they sent me a text that said I had to. I called them and they said I could still show up but it might be hour or more wait before I could see the car if I didn't pay before arriving. So I paid. It's not a huge deal and I'm hoping that they'll prioritize a higher quality MXP for me but that if they couldn't get me one within a month they would process a refund.

I pondered on the way home if those who've said they're cars were perfect if they really were or if I'm just being too picky and seeing things many others wouldn't have. From 5 feet away, it looks great except for the passenger side FWD alignment. If I'd accepted it instead and posted a bunch of photos from 10 feet away, I doubt anyone would have noticed.
@sorka - First, I completely agree with you rejecting this car. Too many issues. In my opinion, there are some buyers that are too picky and others that don't know what to look for or it isn't as important to them.

As mentioned, I had a friend who was a detailer for years and has been doing paintless dent removal for 20 years inspect my car before I arrived. There were 3 things he pointed out. I have attached pictures of two of them so you can understand how picky he was being. He said the seat should smooth out in warmer weather and over time. It was cold and rainy that day. The paint, gaps, seals, etc. were great. He commented that the passenger front door sticks out a bit more than the FWD. Honestly, even knowing that and looking carefully, I don't see it, but that is the detail he sees. The car I received was perfect. I feel very lucky.

After getting the SMS message about being up to do pickup within the next 1-3 days, I got the VIN number the next day (yay!). We went through the loan process (with Tesla and actually got a great rate!) + insurance (not with Tesla). Later in the day the asked me to schedule the pickup so I choose the 31st at 3pm.

A few hours before pickup I get a message that my car wasn't delivered to the showroom / picking up location - this in Corte Madera, CA so fairly close to the Fremont factory. They tell me it's either later in the day around 7pm OR the next day (today). In the end around 6pm they tell me it's going to be today.

Today we go in to do pickup, they take 20 minutes to find some papers and at some point two people show up and they tell me the car it's still being worked on - something related to wiring and that I won't be able to do pickup today -- potentially tomorrow or most likely Monday.

I did go in with low expectations but it was more around build quality and not about not being able to do pickup in the first place. Extremely bummed about not being able to do the pickup today. I messaged my SA right after to get a new delivery time and didn't even reply.

I think Tesla is extremely lucky they have this amazing product and that we're living these crazy times, otherwise I would have walked away from this all together.

PS: There were two brand new model Xs parked close by and we took a look and we saw lots of issues with paneling and the seal around the doors.

Update: As I pressed enter on this message - Tesla called and they told me they have ANOTHER model X identical to mine but different VIN - I can come and pick up that later today. At this point I can write a book on the ups and downs of buying these cars.

So drat!! I woke up this morning to find my order has been completely canceled after yesterdays rejected delivery.

If that wasn't bad enough, Plaid prices have risen another $4122 as of this morning!!!!
Why did this happen? What are they saying to you? Rejecting a car based on quality should not cancel your order. Did you cancel for a different reason? Would love some detail on this.
