I *know* I've seen someone who removed their seat backs and posted pictures as well as a brief description of how to do it. Anyone know where that thread is lurking? I cannot find it anywhere :-/

Try this post for an image of the seat-back removed.

Very easy, just start at the top and run your thumb around the edge. The clips will pop off as you go

Yeah, I ended up getting it off. But the clips don't come off with the back, which doesn't seem ideal. But I got it back on, too.
