An online tracker of Tesla Cybertruck says the all-electric pickup now has more than 1.25 million orders.

The first production units of the pickup are expected to roll off the line as soon as Tesla can get its Model Y production up and running. An actual production start date for the Cybertruck has not yet been announced. Chief Executive Elon Musk has said limited production could begin before the end of the year, with production scaling in 2022.

The crowd-souced order tracker suggests that around 48% of the total reservations are for the Cybertruck’s Dual Motor configuration, the most popular choice. The Tri Motor received 45% of pre-orders, and the Single Motor at just 7% of the pre-orders.

When the Cybertruck was introduced in 2019 its angular, bare-metal design was met with mixed reviews. Still, Tesla die-hards and consumers looking for an electric pickup option in the market submitted 146,000 pre-orders on the first day.

If Tesla delivers on the current suggested number of pre-orders, it amounts to $79 billion in revenue.

Tesla is currently working to finish construction at a new Austin, Texas-based factory that will be the home of Cybertruck production.

At $100 a pop that’s good amount of $ being generated …even if it’s refundable. Are there any limits to how Tesla can use or invest that money while we wait?
Because of their excellent relationship with President Biden, they'll be paying the $100/person to convince people to get vaccinated. So reservation = vaccination!

So.... An article that says the cyber truck is super hot and very much anticipated? Geez! Who would have thought!

It's getting frustrating waiting for it but at least it's tesla and they have proven they can build drive able cars that meet the specs, unlike so many other new projects like rivian and lucid.

For comparison Ford sell a little short of a million F150 trucks in the US a year and have delivered, coincidently, approx 1.25M since the Cybertruk was announced in Nov 19 (2020 being a litle down due to Covid). Funny how these numbers are similar.
