Rivian Deliveries Pushed to 2022

This site may earn commission on affiliate links.

Rivian has started notifying customers that they will need to wait a bit longer to receive their vehicles.

Rivian has sent notifications that lay out delivery windows for the “Launch Edition” that range from March to September. It’s reasonable to assume that the company’s less-pricey “Adventure” and “Explore” packages will also be pushed to the second half of 2022.

While Rivian has started production of its all-electric R1T pickup, few have been delivered. The R1S SUV was expected to go into production next month, but it is not clear if that will be the case.

Rivian currently operates a single factory in Normal, Illinois and is reportedly looking for a second factory location.

Early reviews of the R1T pickup have been strong. And investors have been supportive, as the company’s recent IPO gave it a market capitalization of $100 billion.

I disagree. People buy trucks to haul stuff and bed size does matter. One trip to Home Depot will prove that when you need to buy something for your house. Also never parked my ram in the garage. Trucks live outside.
The F-150 Lightning has a 5.5' bed. I am sorry, but Ford sells more trucks than ANYONE and so has all of the data on what their customers prefer. People buy short bed crew cabs. Even contractors (so they can keep the crew together when going to lunch and such). If you need to haul long material you but one of those skeleton racks so the long stuff goes over the cab.

And for those of you throwing stones at Rivian, you should come hang out in the Refresh MX Waiting Room thread :)

Tesla issued a bunch of VINs last Tuesday, only to recall them on Wednesday with no explanation. Also, there is this:

Here is some update from me:
11/30 got VIN assigned
12/2 got a call to schedule a delivery, scheduled a pickup in Colma, CA on 12/5
12/3 got a call that my car is still in Fremont, CA and it needs some repairs to be done and I need to wait (they don't know how long)
EDD now changed from 12/5 to TBD :(

Followed by:
More updates from me:
- Just jumped off the call with the delivery agent, and he says the car is fine and he doesn't see any notes and the car should be delivered next week, he will keep me posted.
- Called again and another agent says that car needs some repairs and still going to be in the factory in Fremont and she will keep me posted once she has more updates.

If only these other EV companies were more like Tesla

My only complaint about Rivian is the timing of announcements around their IPO. Coming up into the IPO they were very optimistic about production start/ ramp & deliveries before year end. Almost immediately after IPO, they announce a delay.

Aside from that, you are spot on, Tesla is hardly a bastion of amazing service.

Tesla (Elon in particular) has had their fair share of stock-related shenanigans. Funding secured anyone? Blatantly illegal felony-level stock manipulation. Nothing happened to Elon, why wouldn't Rivian and anyone else follow suit? The SEC has proven they would rather sit around watching porn than do their job.

We were talking about Rivian.

It’s a fair point, but so far anyhow, there are zero Tesla bag holders. Will Rivian fair as well?

In the Wild ~
oddly enough, as I've followed this thread several days, lo and behold . 100's of miles from Nowhere - Northwest Montana - over 150 miles from the nearest DC quick charger. Kalispell Montana. Set between the old down town stores .... some of the old town buildings erected in the 1800's. Several storefronts sport old historic photos of the store fronts with horse and wagon wheel carts parked in front
Not so the case any more
??

Bed looks mega tiny on the pic.

it didn't look near as goofy in person. Plus the color was relatively unique. it was just such a head-scratcher not spotting it someplace a whole lot closer to its production point, where one would figure most of the employees & insiders might be. It felt like spotting a cyber truck in Ecuador. Up here? One might think, "over 100 miles from the Tesla dealership". But if this pickup pickup breaks down, it's going to be a long flatbed trip back to the nonexistent dealership.

Interestingly I randomly came across this on Instagram, I believe this particular one belongs to the account @techgentlemen

Keep in mind that most service will be done in your driveway, and Rivian already has service centers all over the US and will be expanding in the future.

Why would you not cancel?
i would never put up with what you say they are doing And you seem to hate Tesla yet you still want to buy one?
That makes zero sense.

What I SAY they are doing? I post facts from other threads. I'm not SAYING anything. Open your eyes and draw your own conclusions.

To be clear, I hate what Tesla has become. I have been a customer for 11 years. The company has changed so much in that time and it makes me sad.

Why am I still here? Because now that I have been driving EVs for 11 years, I have no desire to go back to an ICE. I could use a pickup to replace my diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee. Tesla is still the best when it comes to the "EV stuff" like drivetrain performance, range, Tesla App, etc. But I have been driving a Volvo XC40 Recharge for the last week and I really like it. They have the "car stuff" right. The headlights are miles ahead of Tesla, hands-free liftgate opening, 360 degree view for parking, balance of physical buttons/stalks and touch screen, etc.

So competition is coming, but it's not there yet. I have reservations for a CT and an F-150. As they get closer to production and I learn more about the actual vehicles, I will make a decision.

Finally, if I were to stop buying from every company that did distasteful things I wouldn't be able to buy anything.

Rivian has been doing for a long time. Sure Tesla has had a 6 year head start but wouldn't you think we would be seeing solid production after 13years?

Uh yea, so you get them on the phone and they walk you through the repair. Bring tools.
