So I was poking around the Tesla Careers page to see if I could get any hints about the San Antonio Service Center. The two job openings for San Antonio actually look like they are for a store, not for a service center. Store Manager and Product Specialist. Maybe they have all the people they need for the service center?

Based on nothing but my own unfounded speculation I think The Shops at La Cantera would be a fine place for a Tesla store.

There's an Experience Model S in San Antonio event scheduled for August 9-10, at the Whole Foods in the Quarry. I may drop by and see if the Tesla staff have any news about the San Antonio store or service center.

I went on Saturday and drove a P85+ with a Denver rep named Stephen. He was a wealth of information.
I'm new on this forum and very close in ordering one. I'm trying to make up my mind on the options available.
It's great to see several owners in San Antonio already.
Welcome, we hope you join the club. PM or post here with any questions, happy to help.

Great news about the next drive event, right in my backyard, I'll be there.

I think Tesla is leaning toward a hybrid Service Center/Showroom model for some cities, we might be one.

Thank you Cattledog.
I do have a question. Has anyone attempted to drive to LA from San Antonio? And if so, I would love to know where the charge points are.
I looked at plugshare.com and found a few chargers along the IH10 but it seems quite desolate all the way up to El Paso and even Tucson.

Thank you Cattledog.

Welcome Bauhaus!
You might try reading through The Frunk Is My Suitcase and following his route through west Texas and New Mexico. Note that the author of that blog has twin chargers so he was able to take advantage of a couple of high-amp Level 2 stations.

Take a look at an RV park app or website. You just need a 50 amp RV plug. Unfortunately, Plugshare only lists RV parks that people have posted, and there are many more out there.

That was a great read. Thank you!
I guess I'll opt for the twin chargers after reading this. I wasn't to sure about getting those but on long road trips they can make a difference.

I think we all hope for an I-10 Supercharger highway ASAP but it'll probably be one of the last cross-country connections. Hopefully by the end of 2015 at the latest.

Regarding the Experience Model S event on August 9th. One of my buddies at work is signed up for a test drive at 12:30. I plan to try to be there around noon and I'll ride with him during his drive. My buddy is currently driving a Mustang GT500, he says that Tesla offered him a chance to drive a P85. I'm sure he'll be impressed.

Based on what he told me about the phone call to schedule the appointment, there should be a very obvious Tesla tent in the parking lot. Hopefully there will be a static display car for passers by to tinker with and a product specialist to answer questions (besides the test drive navigator). I'm perfectly happy to help answer questions myself, but I don't want to stay all day!

Has anyone been to one of the events that wasn't run out of a Tesla store? How much of a presence will there be besides the product specialist giving the test drives?

I went to one in Austin back in August 2012, part of the original 'Get Amped' tour. They used the hotel porte cochere and meeting rooms as staging areas. There were at least a dozen people there from Tesla, sort of a roving hit squad that was going city to city. I would guess this is smaller, half dozen people maybe? Totally depends on number of cars and reservations.

Not sure if Whole Foods would give them space, I imagine the tent is the right idea. I plan on going as well, not sure what time. Might contact the Tesla team and see if they want to come over for a happy hour afterwards, gotta check that with the boss though.

San Antonio Test Drive Event August 9th

Here's a couple of shots from the ongoing test drive event. They'll take a walk-up if there's space. Get your Teslon.

It was great to meet you Cattledog, and see Founder's car #14. Very cool.

I wasn't signed up for a test drive, just there to get some Tesla Time and meet my buddy from work who was scheduled to drive a P85+ at 12:30. But Team Tesla had plenty of cars and slots available so they let me drive the black P85+ too. I'm now more certain than ever that I want a Performance model. I'd driven an S85 and it was pretty quick, but the P85 is just mind-warping. Still getting the Tesla Grin just thinking about it!

Here's another pic. Black P85+ is at the back of the row, behind the brown one.

Well, I just pulled the trigger. It's going to be a P85 Grey Tan interior with a pano roof and air suspension.
I'm going to take delivery in January so I will get a 2015 model. That will also get me time to integrate the new features coming out late August and October.
Maybe I'll take the factory delivery in Fremont CA.
That will be a fun trip back to San Antonio. Hopefully the superchargers are installed by then.

I like your choice. Unfortunately, you get hosed in taxes if you take delivery in CA, but I agree the roadtrip will be awesome!

If you do please let us know how the paperwork is handled. I've thought about doing the same thing, but I'm not real excited about the idea of paying Alameda County sales tax (9%).

Looking around the forum here I saw several posts saying that, so I asked my rep. He said that it was possible to get the paperwork done for TX and pay our %6.25 sales tax and drive the car back home.
I will have to investigate this some more and I will keep you posted.
