Shopping cart hit and walk-caught on Sentry cam

I have no experience with this (except the lady who rolled into me) so thank you for all the feedback.

i didn’t know about dent specialists. I will def look in that direction.

I just looked at the dent again (first time in day light) and it’s small, but it’s there and I will fix it. I’ll post pics later.

1. Guarantee that's a 100$ PDR fix.

2. Not Costco's responsibility.

3. She is disgusting, and when pulling away she should have (and probably did see) it hit your car.

Shame on her.

That said, I don't see why the US stores don't implement the easiest of all fixes: coin-op carts. Very easy way to correct people's behaviors. 25 cents is low threshold for people to get access to the cart, but high enough that they won't leave the carts stray. In Europe you will rarely see stray carts because of this (and not because people are inherently more civil or anything)

Thanks for the reply.

We’ll see if Costco pays to repair the car. I’m not trying to scam them. Have better things to do.

My garage is dark and I didn’t feel like having a photo shoot in there at midnight so I didn’t take pics. But, I do know my way around editing equipment so it’s easier (and more fun) for me to cut a video, which I did. I’ll post pics later today in between kid stops.

Thanks again for your reply.

Hope you’re right about $100 fix. I’ll happily pay that. Based on my prior incident (which required paint) I thought this would be in the same ball park. Hope I’m wrong. And yeah, agree about coin op carts. Not sure why we don’t have them here.

If you park near other cars it is just a matter of time before you get damage. If you really care about your car and don’t have health or physical issues you should park far out in the parking lot by yourself. The walk will not hurt you and you will avoid these issues. PDR is cheap and the results on a small ding is good and easy as long as it isn’t blocked by rear interference such as being on the very end of a panel.

I'm wondering if I should try and uprez the back plate (don't think that's possible) or go after Costco to pay for the repair because the employee was literally taking carts in and instead of him grabbing this cart, he told her to put it in the corral - on the other side of the raised sidewalk.

Please don’t jeopardize the Costco employee’s job by trying to blame him for the laziness of a store customer. Let it go. It wasn’t intentional - you’ll spend more time and energy (and maybe money) trying to track her down only to make her pay for a $100 paintless dent repair.

let it go.

This spot was far away. Costco was packed as everyone is buying supplies in case there’s a pandemic. And yeah, I always park super far away.

Disagree with you on this. The employee should have stopped and added the cart to the other carts he was taking in. That appears to be his job.

eh...how does 25cents correct a behavior? I mean I would pay 25 cents for a cart, no biggie. but when one is done shopping, what's to stop them from leaving it the say way in in the OP's topic? help me to understand. They charge you full purchase price of the cart or something if you don't bring it back to the corral?

They charge you 25 cents for the cart; just like airport carts charge you like six quarters for a cart to haul your bags about. When you return it; you get your money back. If you don’t do it for the 25 cents someone will do it for the 25 cents. Or someone that doesn’t have a quarter or doesn’t want to spend a quarter will snatch up the cart that someone was too lazy to return.

I knew a kid that ran away from home and made enough money at the airport to buy an airline ticket to another place. Took him about two days at the airport to make enough in quarters to fly from Seattle to LA.

if all someone has to do is push a cart an extra 20 yards to get a quarter -- moreover, "their" quarter that they had put in -- most would do it. the incentive is not big, but big enough to coerce people into compliance to what should be good civil behavior anyway.

or make it 50 cents. whatever.

it wont work on 100% of the lazy dummies. but if it works for 80% of them, then its already worthwhile

edit: to be clear it looks like this: you put coin(s) into the slot to release a cart. once you chain it back your coin(s) are released.

I dont search out higher end cars to park next to like some do, I just want to park next to a car that looks like the person cares somewhat about it, entry level hyundai or high end porsche or anything in between,

I dont mind walking, so normally head to the farther out parking spots, as well.

Oh, it it isn’t a Bentley or a Rolls I’m not parking by it.:)

I’ve done a good bit of traveling around Europe and think you are probably wrong. I think people are inherently more civil there.
People in this country suck. See exhibit A about a careless woman with a shopping cart.....

Aldi makes us pay the quarter to unlock the shopping carts, and yes people do return the carts to get their quarter back. So I’d say the system works. I don’t really care about a quarter but since the procedure is to return the cart to the stack and take your quarter back I just do it so I don’t look like a jerk.
