I'm looking at a couple of Model Y Long Range inventory vehicles. I've run across a strange VIN configuration, wondering if anyone has an explanation.
First vehicle has the typical VIN 7SAYGDEE9PA187*** Sales associate says mfg. date is 11/7/23
Second vehicle has an X in the 9th position 7SAYGDEEXPA181*** . Most of the decoders I've seen say it should be a 9 in the 9th position. SA says mfg. date is 11/10/23.
Other than the 9th digit being different, the dates don't make sense. The first one built on 11/7 has a higher number 187 compared to the second one built on 11/10 of 181.
Can anyone explain this? Could they have re-used the second VIN for some reason?
Thanks.
