It’s the Community Board not the Council, and it can be ignored if the Council is feeling vaguely courageous.

I doubt the Board really understands much more than “Musk bad”, “Tesla for rich people” which is weird because Cambridge is oozing with wealth. Maybe they are worried their etron or EQS won’t work there?

As we know, Tesla in NZ uses CCS2, meaning that other brands could conceivably charge there. Subject to Tesla renting the car parks for a fair fee, what does the local community stand to lose from this proposal? Nothing.

In reality the Community Board, I’m guessing with an average age 72, would rather see nothing built than something built because their universe must remain completely the same forever…and EV batteries bad…and slave labour…and other stuff.

Digging into it (from the Feb community board meeting) looks like Tesla also presented to the local board.

Can't seem to find the report of Julie Taylor on the council website.

In her report to the community board, Transportation safety officer Julie Taylor said this would be contrary to the council’s Transport Strategy aim of reducing the number of private vehicles coming into the town centre.

Oh no.

We don't want tourists stopping in town and patronising our cafes and restaurants, and maybe deciding they'd like to come back.

We'd prefer they drive past and go to some soulless highway services.

We'd prefer they drive past and go to some soulless highway services.

They clearly need to ban those petrol stations in Cambridge - damn pesky motorists wanting fuel!
