Supercharger - Eureka, CA (LIVE, 8 V2 stalls)

It would be nice especially for winter but I can do Eureka to Petaluma on 1 charge w/ 19"s driving just over the speed limit & SLI(Hopland) has the destination chargers for a quick stop if needed. To hit the coast and take hwy 1 up to Eureka then Willits /Ukiah is definitely needed. I really recommend the section of 1 north of Fort Bragg and hwy 36 if you like some twists!

one of the reasons I live here, no traffic and twisty beautiful roads with (mostly) good pavement!

Yes, SR36 from Alton to Peanut is awesome! (Is some of it still one-lane?)

yep, but there are 2 projects that will straighten out that section and make it 2 lanes with shoulders even  but that part is pretty fun as it is now!
last time I went through there it was night and icy in the springtime...extra fun
I really like the bumpy section on the I-5 side where you can get some air and must be a bit careful not to jump into one of the blind corners

I just sent an email to Eureka city hall asking for information and what we could do to help speed along this process. I'd love to have this supercharger up and running by July 2016 for my yearly trip "behind the redwood curtain".

@Zextraterrestrial, you can do Eureka to Petaluma on one charge? Either way? What size battery? and what is your avg WHr/mi on that trip? Thanks!!

Eureka has shown up on Tesla's own map as a gray 'coming soon' marker, as have Ukiah and Crescent City. It has disappeared from the projected 2015 map however, which I suppose is no surprise as there are only 5 weeks left and they haven't started yet.

There are three permits needed: fire, planning, and building. Fire is listed as APPROVED on 12/2; planning is listed as NOT APPROVED on 12/4; building is still pending (though due 11/30). I can't tell online what the issue is with the planning permit, and I don't know if that is linked to the coastal development permit.

Yes but to do those Northern California road trips on the 101 we need the Willits/Ukiah area Supercharger as well.
Ukiah Supercharger is almost ready

Permit processing update

The Eureka supercharger needs three permit approvals - building, fire, and planning. Building and fire were approved on 11/30/2015 but planning said it was not approved. However, as of January 25th, planning has approved the permit. The information is found at Eureka's eTrakit site. Search for permit number B15-0852. If you scroll to the right and click on the Reviews tab it has the latest information. The permit hasn't been issued yet but hopefully that will happen soon now that the permit has been approved so construction can begin.

Thanks for the info, emupilot. I had no idea Eureka had such a website, and had been thinking about calling the city's planning department to find out what I could. I appreciate what you have dug up. I'm trying to guess whether my X will get here before the supercharger or after.

I drove down to the Bayshore Mall yesterday from my home in Big Lagoon (30 miles north of Eureka) to see if I could tell where these Superchargers were going to go in. I drove through the parking lots and surrounding area from the rear of the Sears building (and entrance to the homeless encampment at the Palco Marsh) to the McDonald's parking lot on the south end of the mall, and I could not find any indication of impending construction or signage about the construction. I asked a Eureka police woman in her K-9 unit vehicle if she knew about the chargers, but she said she hadn't heard about them, but she did know about Teslas. Next time I'm down that way I will check with the mall office to see if I can find out more.

Jim,

You might check with the leasing agent or property manager too. I found (at least here in Fresno) that they are the liaison between Tesla, the property owner and the city, and have up-to-date information.

I went into the Bayshore mall office today to see if I could pinpoint time and location of the chargers. The reception person in the office told me that indeed there was a plan for the chargers to be placed near the Kohl's wing of the mall near the McDonalds. She could not give me a time line. I drove to the area she described and noted that there is a single row immediately adjacent to the road between the Kohl's parking lot and the McDonalds. While driving past, I noted an out of state construction crew with backhoe parked immediately adjacent to the area I think will be used for the superchargers. They were just pulling in, and unfortunately I didn't get to speak with them. I'll check in a few days to see if any work is being done.

That is very encouraging. Thanks for the info.

As I mentioned in the Crescent City thread, I contacted the supercharger division at Tesla on the recommendation of my delivery specialist (X is coming soon) to inquire about when Eureka and Crescent City superchargers would be open, and received an email reply that said that they were planning to have them open "sometime this summer". I appreciate the information. To quote the Beatles: "It won't be long, yeah."
