There's been a lot of discussion about the potential benefits of splitting 290 kW over four instead of 145 over two on the forum, but AFAIK the only versions Tesla has ever installed is the pair and the new urban chargers that have 72 kW per stall with no pairing.

Technically the Urban Superchargers are still paired. They use the same Supercharging cabinets and are still labeled A/B, they just have different software. I suspect that the main advantage is that they can use a larger gauge, i.e. cheaper, wire to hookup each stall since the peak kW is lower.
Some sites do have an odd number of stalls, and in those cases it is not paired.
