Tesla battery event Hornsdale

Disappointing that there is no mention of reducing gas demand rather than only increasing supply,. We need to modernise and move demand from gas to electricity, especially when matched with solar supply. Electricity prices will reduce due to plunging solar costs and battery prices will reduce once EV penetration has increased a little more globally, reducing gas demand will also help. Longer range EV’s are becoming the norm and are capable of choosing to charge when the grid pricing is slow, especially midday on Sat/Sun, to help balance the grid.
50% of SA’s power cost (the distribution cost) has today been set for the next 5 years, so cannot see a lot of decrease coming our way, although now I have my own network complete with panels and batteries I’m expecting a significant decrease.

Under The Greens, a Hornsdale would be commonplace & we’d already be at 100% renewable by now
Problem is most of the older voting generation label them ‘communists’ (as if it’s bad thing, because they conflate authoritarianism with communism) & brainwash their kids growing into adults to think likewise. Without the ‘baggage’ of the Cold War & the dying off of the older generations, we may be able to move forward with greater levels of critical thinking towards engaging with the ideas of socialism & communism. Nordic & Scandinavian countries are more embracing of socialism than most, yet have some of the highest GDP per capita rates in the world, the highest education rates, highest quality of life & so on.

I log in for a tesla discussion and find a post from someone wanting australia to discuss becoming partly communist. Not worth a response. Now I’ll go off and find something tesla to engage with.

Exhibit A. Quicker than even I expected. Ugh.

Tesla's upgraded big battery at Hornsdale exhibits record performance in final tests

During its tests on Tuesday, for example, the upgraded Hornsdale battery performed a rapid 270MW flip by charging at 120MW and discharging at 150MW. As noted in a Renew Economy report, the battery installation appears to have performed the flip on several different occasions, and at least one of them had an impact on the wholesale price of electricity in the area. During one such flip, the expanded Tesla Powerpack farm pushed down power prices to just above AU$8 per MW.

“Those 270MW flips – from the level of discharge to the level of charge – are likely a world record in both speed and extent of the change. And it’s this flexibility of the big batteries such as Hornsdale, and others at Dalrymple North, Lake Bonney, Gannawarra and Ballarat, that is particularly attractive to project owners and valuable to AEMO, the market operator,” the Australian publication noted.

AGL have just announced a tender process for a battery at SA’s Torrens Island (near port adelaide). The battery is intended to be the same size as Hornsdale. AGL have alao declared a lack of desire to invest any further in large traditional base load power stations.

The owner of Hornsdale (neoen) has just lodged an application for 163 turbines, 3000ha of solar, and a battery 6 times the size of Hornsdale. The site is at Burra in SA. This may be the workds largest fully integrated renewable solution with 1800mw of generation and 900mwh of storage. It will be located adjacent the nsw-sa interconnector.

Any chance you can share a link? I found announcements from Sept 2019 but nothing recently. Neoen unveils massive wind, solar battery project in South Australia | RenewEconomy

Unfortunately its on a pay site so the link wont work, however you can see the application at this link. If you scroll down there is a public notice that outlines it.

If anyone wants to see the full application you can find it here. Just scroll down to the project and there are 4 pdf links to view

Why the actual fork doesn't the Australian forking government spend some of the money it's doling out on JobKeeper / JobSeeker on incentivising industry to build wind turbines and solar by / with Australian companies? Employ Australians. Pay Australians to build, maintain and run such an installation. It would be fantastic.
Is it not a no-brainer?
I get SO upset when I see the way Scomo is letting his country down...
