Tesla model 3 accident with a Mack truck

Dump trucks. It’s always the class B tri-axles.

I’m a truck driver (Class-A) His load cover is in the open position (bars on the sides angled forward) which makes me guess he was empty. This wasn’t a case of being to heavy and unable to stop. Watch the driver side fender cam in slow playback. The suspension never dips. I doubt he ever hit the brakes. Likely saw green at the next intersection and went back to his phone or spaced out.

If your wife has any pain whatsoever sue the hell out of this guy. Drivers like him put the rest of us at risk. Sticking him to a desk job may save someone’s life.

Dude... you're from Schnecksville... if that doesn't get you double points on your post I don't know what does!

Looking at the videos it does not look like the impact was a hard as it must have been to cause that much damage, when the shot comes in at the end of the video to show the damage I was surprised, I am glad the car did its job to keep your wife safe! and I am glad my wife drives the same car after seeing several good outcomes of pretty drastic accidents.

I wonder what the truck driver was doing before the crash. Was he checking his phone or was he blasting some good-ol’ country music on his stereo? Did your wife slow down when she heard/saw the Ambulance or was it an immediate stop?

Here is the photo provided at the end of the YT video. That looks pretty totaled. Good luck and glad you are ok.View attachment 392556

This was Mississauga/Oakville. 92.4% this dump truck driver was a Sikh, no country music.

I used to work in law enforcement. Some states require that if an emergency vehicle has its emergency lights activated, the siren must also be on. Not sure what it is in your state, but the ambulance...company may be at fault as well.

I know this for my state because a rookie office was driving to a scene with the light bar only on, and no siren. She went through a light and a lady didnt see the officer. The lady was smashed and went through the windshield. Died on scene No seatbelt.

Was a big mess. Officer got fired due to not having the siren on. As well as the officer wasnt allowed to have emergency lights on for the call she was going to. I think there was a fight but no weapons... The officer was sued by the family and settled out of court. No criminal charges were brought.

heh yeah, I agree with what others have said, it doesn't look like the driver hit the brakes until after hitting the car, you can see it slowing down quite hard from the left camera...so he must have been distracted...my money is on the good-ol' country music!

my wife told me that only the lights on the ambulance were on, so after she saw that and it approaching the intersection, she hit the brakes to yield for it.

I guess whoever was in the ambulance wasn't as 'critical' for them to turn on the siren? whatever the case, the truck should have left enough distance between him and her to stop for whatever reason.

From the photo, you can see that the rear bumper wasn't hit since the truck sits higher up, so we'll see what their appraisers say, but a lot of my co-workers have said that they've seen stuff classified as a 'total loss' for a lot less. We'll see.

The ambulance had a police escort = serious. The police car did not even stop to check on ppl in the accident. Dunno why no siren.

No such law in Ontario. Emergency vehicles often go around lights only, no siren. Not sure the rationale.

I don't always stop at the intersection when emergency vehicles approcaching when I am on green, unless it's safe for me to do so.

Rear end is not a good feeling especially to my neck or my passengers's, we are the ones that will suffer if there is anything happen to our health, no amount of insurance can cover that. The emergency vehicles are the ones that are supposed to cross the intersection when it is safe to do so. In GTA, it's especially bad with all the traffic and vehicles follow too close.

I’m not blaming your wife. But I’m not sure I would have stopped and I suspect the truck driver didn’t expect her to stop either.

Around here, if it’s that serious the ambulance would trigger a bright strobe flashing light on the the street light. No siren, no strobe light I would not stop at green light abruptly. If she had “extra time” and wants to be nice, check behind you and slow down smoothly. It’s not expected that you take unusual action.

It is a tricky situation on what you should do there. My wife would probably stop too ;)

Rewatch the left side camera. It was not abruptly, it was smooth and the truck had the ability to stop in just over its own length.

Since the model 3 was slowing down gradually, may be the tail light didn't turn on long enough to warn the truck driver. Anyway, glad to hear that your wife is safe.

My wife let me know that she didn't have her foot on the accelerator since it was downhill, and because of that, the car would be using the regen braking. I believe when using the regen braking, the brake lights should come on? since they light up on the on-screen car when regen braking is being used.

We got the guys name on the police report, and I'm pretty sure he wasn't Sikh...so still a possibility of country music...

Well, in that case, not much she could do. Sikh? racial profiling lol.

I sincerely hope your wife is fine other than some emotional stress.
