I seem to have the same problem when I drizzle honey in that SAME spot and try to open it. Seems to work better once I clean it up though.

Hummm.....the problem? Did the console not "read" your credit card's magnetic strip? Perhaps you have to insert the chip.... that's it, your console has a defective credit card chip reader.... Oh sure. That has got to be it!

That's how you pay for the 75 kW upgrade in the new 60 kW cars.
I had my phone on the console the other day and someone pulled out in front of me. I slammed on the breaks and then drove forward. I got home and it took me 45 minutes to find my iPhone in between the console and the little area under the screen. Was really quite annoying so I understand the complaint/concern.

I've not seen a refresh car but in a pre-refresh car the "cubby" is easily removed giving access to the top of the console.

It will just fall into the console bottom. Open it halfway if a card disappears and stick your hand up there. You'll be able to feel it. Also, don't put cards on there.
I wish I had seen this earlier. I just set my gate pass on this surface, and it slid into the twilight zone as I parked
It seems to be jammed in an area past the console interior. So far, I have not been able to get it out, but I can feel it pushing against the lid when opened the last inch.

On my pre-facelift S90D pushing down on both sides of the "cubby" releases the spring clips. Then pull the cubby straight out.

There is a convenient cubby shelf where nothing can fall anywhere, above the console and below the center screen. Its perfect for credit cards, cell phones, fast pass, transponders etc. Less likely to scratch the sliding cover as well.
