Having earnings on the 26th rather than the 21st lends a bit of credence to the theory that we’ll get an FSD release at the same time (though I still have my doubts any of us will see The Button).

That, and hopefully there’ll be good news on the S/X front by then. My rep texted me today to resubmit my acceptance on my MX Plaid offer, as he’s supposedly looking for a VIN soon. He says they haven’t gotten any S/X assigned yet (Dedham, MA), but they’re “eagerly waiting”.

Yeah, me too. 🤨

Perhaps what the active sensor proponents forget is that vision only is not, strictly speaking, a purely passive solution in this context because... wait for it... vehicles have headlights. 🤦‍♂️

Headlights make using vision in fog worse because it's reflective of visual light, but not radar.

Also bouncing headlights under the car in front of you doesn't help your camera see an otherwise visually blocked car

How about 116 mph?

Sure, that'd be a lot more interesting.

But that video isn't from the Vegas tunnel- where the limit is currently 35.

This is a little off topic but hopefully you guys can help.
My girlfriend just got to Vegas for work, is the boring company tunnel thing something she could go on/through? Open to public?

Not yet.

It's going to (right now) only connect 3 parts of the vegas convention center complex, and it's not open for a few more months yet to the public.

They WANT to add tunnels to connect casinos up and down the strip, but that's still a while off.

John! Welcome 😄

This is not me, I swear!

Have they tested this during crazy FL rain storms because I probably need a Radar when I can't see nothing out of my windshield unless I drive way under the speed limit. It's like a flood coming from the sky. Fills up my pool in like 15 mins where it would take a hose 3 hours
A Tesla with AP works just fine in heavy rain, as long as the windshield is properly cleaned and treated, even in the heaviest of rain, even without the wipers being on.

With as high as Tesla's PE ratio is today, the stock might very well trade mostly flat for a few years again, while earnings rise to decrease the PE to more appealing levels for investors.

In time the SP is going way up for certain, but the next few years could go any number of ways really.
Back in 2013-2014 the 10X share price rise resulted in a six year draught. At the time Tesla had one production model, the Model S. That was it. 2020/2021 10X share rise has come with so many postive elements, products and potential, I can't list them all. Months drought? Perhaps. Years? No way. In my over eight years of following this TMC investment thread and reading all things Tesla, I cannot think of another time where there has been a greater disconnect between our collecitve expectation of what Tesla is worth and the current share price. We here on TMC know something special, and for now it remains a secret outside of our forum, for now. But the secret will soon be out for all to see.

Over 3 years ago was when Radar was a primary sensor for autopilot.

Tesla went on, at some length, when they switched to this system how awesome radar was at seeing things cameras could not including seeing through bad weather.

Hence why folks are now concerned at the idea they're ditching radar after spending years telling us how it made the car safer in exactly the type of conditions your video demonstrates.

(1000 bonus irony points for the specific choice of music on that 3 year old video too!)

Excellent Tesla. At first I thought the 151km Range was a mistake, but make no mistake about Teslas getting into the hands of Canadians.
"Canadiana Special" 151km Range Model 3 @ $46,389 CAD including delivery centre fees allows for $5,000 Feberal (+$3,000 for BC or NS, or +$8,000 for QC). Use the rebates once received to upgrade your Model 3 with OTA updates to match SR+ 423km @ $52,990 CAD including delivery centre fees.

Only LR and P available for Model Y in Canada.

The SR+ already qualified for the federal rebate because of the “off menu” SR. I think the government just didn’t like this trick and forced them to add it to the options on the website. I highly doubt many will order this.

Note: The government won’t let them upgrade after sale.

Correct and maybe it's because we have radar...
Misses the point. Heavy rain, which you described as needing to slow down or even pull over, is not an issue with a properly treated windshield, AutoPilot, radar, FSD or not.

If I can see every detail of the road and traffic in the heaviest of rain, so can a Tesla with cameras only.

Edit: @Knightshade also missed the point...

There's an extra provision in the Cdn rebate program which raises the limit to $65K (from memory) for cars that have 7-seats. Model Y may qualify for this, especially if an LFP Model Y becomes available. Let us know what you find out.

Cheers!+
That’s the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Clause that the government created because it’s manufactured in Canada 🙄 Model Y didn’t qualify because the base Y doesn’t have 7 seats. I hope they do a software locked 7 seater though to get the rebate for an eventual SR+. The starting price of $70K (with no rebates available) for the LR really limits how many people will buy it.

Note: Couple this with the fact that Tesla has to jump through hoops to get the rebate on the Model 3 SR+ and you realize that governments care more about helping legacy auto than about getting more EVs on the road.

This is what I was suggesting might happen a few weeks ago when Elon mentioned decoupling vision from radar. Drop another $100 (or however much it is) from the cost of the car.

As in most complex things, there's more than one way to do autonomous driving. Other EV makers continued to go down the path of pouch cells long after Tesla showed the way with cylindrical cells. I suspect it'll be the same for autonomous driving. Other OEMs will use, and tout, their radar and lidar for years to come, if for no other reason than as a marketing weapon. "Our car uses THREE modes of obstruction detection, Tesla only uses ONE. Which would you rather have??"

I don't believe Tesla would remove a $100 device just to save some bucks - a possible explanation is that radar input is confusing rather than helping the NN vision based conclusions, and it may have taken that long to figure out because it took time to assemble enough evidence from all the corner cases. By definition rare, and the benefit of radar in normal cases isn't enough to justify the troubles it causes in corner cases. Pure speculation of course. Based on my personal NNN (Natural Neural Network) trying to figure out Tesla's decisions on their NN LOL

"The government won't let them upgrade after sale."?? What is the difference between upgraded tires, window tint, protective paint film or unlocking a higher range battery. None whatsoever. Would the government send inspectors to your home to verify your Tesla battery size every year. How is your comment even plausible?
