Rather More complex than that. Among the VAG Supervisory Board board members are some who are overtly in opposition to BEV's. Several others have responsibilities that place them squarely in a traditionalist position. Still other are either major suppliers or people who are dependent upon supplier goodwill. In short VAG is built to defend the status quo, not to change it.

H. Diess has been trying hard to change the ingrained traditionalism. It is perhaps surprising that he has survived at least two other direct attacks.

Read this then think of whether Diess is part for he problem or not,

I could potentially see Diess coming to work for Tesla if VW cans him. He and Elon are friends, and he actually seems to *get it*. However, Elon would make working for Tesla contingent upon him dropping the VW management style (meetings to plan meetings in order to form committees to design by committee.)

Definitely! Heard my local Tesla store is looking to hire delivery specialists!

In all seriousness, I'd prefer legacy execs - no matter how much they seem to get it - to stay far away from Tesla. But as a proponent of electrification, Deiss will land well should he leave VW.

Yeah, old habits are probably too difficult to break...

That link got me asking, "What's the German Co-determination Act?"

"Mitbestimmungsgesetz 1976 or the Codetermination Act 1976 is a German law that requires companies of over 2000 employees to have half the supervisory board of directors as representatives of workers, and just under half the votes."

It almost sounds like a union, as required by law in Germany. I would think that's a problem for VW as their power on the board is nearly 50% votes. I can only imagine what the Entrepreneur thinks of the situation that VW is in.

Tesla doesn't need execs that are good at....exec-ing. If he was a talented and passionate engineer in addition to his executive credentials, there might be a place for him. I'd prefer Tesla continues promoting from within, arming engineers with management and executive skills rather than importing "professionals." That's the best way to ensure that the mission and core of what makes Tesla, Tesla, remains.
