Imagine you are a TSLA investor on this forum in 2013 and you get to time travel 10 years in the future to see what has happened… and instead you only get to see this post.

Just take one guess who was grumpy enough to do this.

The Electric Viking is saying that Tesla China has now made the switch to Highland. But I can't find any confirmation.
He's probably quoting one of the Twitter accounts out of China that stated over the weekend that this week Shanghai Model 3 production fully switches over to Highland and that they're planning on making 7k for Aug, and something like 10k for September.

If so, it's pretty crummy of him to go live like it's a breaking story.

In NEVI news Tesla won 12 of the 54, ~22%, contracts for round 1 in Pennsylvania.

Some interesting nuggets:
  • $~34M total awarded
  • Tesla received awards totaling ~$2.7M.
  • The average award was for ~$626k .
    • If you take Tesla out of the data the average award is ~$740k.
  • Tesla's average award was ~$227k.

What I haven't been able to find yet is how many charging stalls each site will have. (I hope Traveler's America is install more than 4 charging stalls at each site with the ~$1M they were awarded for each.)

Either Tesla is putting in a lot of matching funds or their costs are way below everyone else's. (Not that Tesla's cost being so much lower is a surprise to any of us.)

edit: I heard back from PennDOT:

For nearly all sites NEVI funds will be used to install 4 ports. Some entities may choose to install additional ports at the site with their own funds, but most will not be considered part of the NEVI project. Please let us know if you have any other questions.

I updated the chart with the average per stall. That makes Tesla's cost roughly half of everyone else.

Earlier this year this board was all doom and gloom. A month ago it was the opposite and the sky was the limit. Now it's all misery again. Guess what comes after that?

Elon has called the stock market 'manic-depressive' and this board is not much different.

So the stock is down again. Elon doesn't care and neither should we. Tesla the company is strong and getting ever stronger. TSLA the stock will take care of itself. Those who HODL will be richly rewarded. Again.

Exactly. ;)

... of course there's this:

Cheers to the Longs!

Thoughts on the US Steel (Ticker - X) Elon purchase rumors? Haven't seen any evidence but buying a steel company wouldn't be crazy given his love of vertical integration.

But if he bought US Steel, he'd also have to buy SentinelOne (don't we already have digital security?), ENI (who wants a yucky oil co?) and Alleghany Corp (already a wholly-owned subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway)...

...but always remember "Who controls the memes, controls the Universe".

Cheers!

Full list on that page: https://www.penndot.pa.gov/ProjectAndPrograms/Planning/EVs/Documents/NEVI Round 1 Conditional Awards_List_FINAL.pdf

For Tesla some decent stuff though not much leaping out as a Supercharger nerd. Waynesburg, PA a nice bit of density and Summerdale, PA across from Harrisburg, PA filling in better for people heading north.
A couple of existing locations, 1 under construction, and some V3/V4 supplementing V2 as well.

Tesla's average award was ~$227k.

That's better than the Canadian Gov't NRC grants Tesla received when they built out the V3 Supercharger route on the Yellowhead Highway in the West. Tesla received ~$30K CAD per charger head (avg 6 stalls per site), compared to all other NRC L3 charger grants across Canada which averaged about $60K per charger.

Notably, Tesla also added 2 extra L3 (50KW) chargers at each Supercharger site for other EVs (dual-headed CCS-combo/CHAdeMO) so that ALL EVs can charge there. The route now extends from Saskatoon on the East side (from where you can already connect to the existing TransCanada Supercharger network), to Prince George in North-central British Columbia (again, and existing Supercharger route already exists to connect to the Lower Mainland).

Tesla was going to do this anyway. Why not take the grant money? The extra benefit was for other EVs since their chargers share the High Voltage infrastructure Tesla has to build to create a Supercharger site.

Even more fun? Tesla just received permission for 'per-KWh' billing for it's charging services in Canada, six (6) months after the bearacracy announced it's pilot program:

Tesla NACS is winning, slowly but Shirley. ;)

Cheers!

The price cut on the Model 3 can easily be justified by Highland.

According to Gary Black, 84% of Model Y sales are the SR (with an unchanged price). If that’s correct, these Y cuts, could actually improve gross margins, if the cuts encourage a decent migration to LR Y’s.
Don't you try and apply common sense to Wall St...
