There might also be an energy singularity, where a factory, solar powered and run entirely by robots, builds solar panels and robots, that then build an identical factory...
Or launch a satellite network to facilitate wireless energy transfer from the the sun side of earth or directly from the sun to the dark side, and send wireless energy to mars transport ships and/or to mars base station.

Tesla Earnings Beat, Revenue Misses In Q3 | via Archive.org

"Tesla Earnings Beat, Revenue Misses In Q3"

October 3, 2019

"Investing.com - Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) reported third quarter earnings that beat analysts' expectations on Wednesday and revenue that fell short of forecasts.

"The firm reported earnings per share of $-0.16 on revenue of $6.34B. Analysts polled by Investing.com anticipated EPS of $-0.47 on revenue of $6.45B. That compared to EPS of $2.9 on revenue of $6.82B in the same period a year earlier. The company had reported EPS of $-1.12 on revenue of $6.35B in the previous quarter."

Nothing is ever truly gone... while there's an archive.org

Yes - I don't think they sold less S&X in Sept compared to August.

BTW, the case of S&X is curious.

Q1
EU+US : 10,623
Total : 12,091
Diff : ~1,500

Q3
EU+US : 12,028
Total : 17,650
Diff : ~5,600

Q3
EU+US : 11,507 (incomplete)
Total : 17,400
Diff : ~6,000

So, did China (and ROW) really buy so many S&X in Q2 and Q3 - compared to Q1 ?
That is weird. Especially since you'd expect US to be down more in Q1 than many other countries.

My Q2 numbers are different: 8750 US + 4628 EU = 13,378 combined.

Another round of "Cash for Clunkers"? All the destruction of the embedded energy in useful clunkers with remaining lives of decade or more for a modest improvement in MPG that will take multiple decades (if ever) to get back to even with nature? Too bad AOC is too young to pick the Burn for her Veep.

Huh? A Tesla can be a net emissions win after just ~10,000 miles compared to an average MPG car, let alone compared to an old "clunker", and then we haven't even included the health care costs of gascar emissions which are higher than $10,000 per decade ...

Plus if the steel in the clunker is recycled, which is the typical case, then much of the carbon cost of the steelmaking is recovered - so the "decades of residual lifetime" is "decades of carcinogenic emissions and CO2 emissions".

I.e. the political bias in your statement is pretty incredible, from a "numbers guy".

Interesting developments in the China trade war:

Trump Brought Up Biden, Warren In A Call With Chinese President: Report | HuffPost

'According to CNN’s report on the June 18 call, Trump brought up the “political prospects” of Biden and Warren, the latter of who had recently started rising in the polls. In that same call, he promised not to speak out on the ongoing Hong Kong protests as China and the U.S. negotiate a trade deal.'

If the transcripts of this call verify this leak then Trump promised to not be critical of any human rights violations in Hong Kong, in a quid pro quo to get a trade deal. Oh, and in exchange he wanted Joe Biden and Elizabeth Warren "investigated" by the Chinese.

I.e. Trump genuinely wants a China trade deal, and any holdups in negotiations depend on whether the Chinese are willing to "investigate" his political rivals.

"This is not a quid pro quo:"

By end of 2021 Tesla will be doing 1 million/yr 3/Y combined.

What's the total global market for $40,000 cars?

More than 20 million passenger cars are sold for $40,000+ each year - so the global market addressable by the Model 3+Y combo is somewhere between "huge" and "fricking huge".

But it gets even better: $38,990 isn't a fixed lower price, for example in China their cost of goods is at least 20% lower, according to tear-down specialist Sandy Munro, and with scale costs will come down even more - Tesla is still at a more than an order of magnitude lower volume than VW or Toyota.

So it's entirely possible for Tesla to eventually break the $30,000 price barrier with 20% gross margins, in 2-3 years, with the Model 3 platform alone.

Also, people have shown an eagerness to spend more on an EV than they have ever spent on a car previously, probably because they don't have to buy gas and oil, get smog checks, longer service intervals, higher resale value, etc.

I seem to have heard this before...Anton is that you?
It also turns into a non-virtuous cycle, because what do you buy right after you pee? Giant Slurpee? 64-oz Coke? Next stop is in 45 minutes. Then 30 minutes. Then you might as well park and watch NetFlix.

Ha we're not in America with your buckets of poison, but I do typically drink 2-3L of water per day, so year, the urge can get strong.

It goes like this "Wifey, kids, our first scheduled Supercharger stop is in 90 minutes, but we're passing one in 45 minutes, so if anyone needs a pee we can stop if necessary and take on some juice at the same time".

We always stop, always!

In any case, it's really nice to stop frequency, get out the car and walk around a bit, it's a total change of approach from the old days and much nicer IMO.

Love it! I can tell that it won't be long after you take delivery on your Model 3 when you will wish the climate control had a one-touch "no heat" setting. Currently, it requires scrolling the set temp down to "LO" and making sure the A/C is off (which means it doesn't work in "AUTO" mode). Maybe they can call it "Icelander Mode". Just the fresh air please but, if the cabin rises above the set temperature, please turn on the ultra-efficient A/C.

If I'm driving alone I tend to switch off the ventilation system completely, TBH it makes too much noise and annoys me.
