The cars are already capable of a Coast-to-Coast drive. The last time I remember hearing Elon mention this he said something to the effect that he didn't want it to be simply a publicity "stunt", which it kind of would be at this stage of the technology (at least with the technology that is currently in our cars, at least those of us with FSD). He probably regrets talking up the impending Coast-to-Coast drive but I think when it comes it will not just be a publicity "stunt". Someone will still need to be there to plug in the Superchargers of course until they install robotic ones (which I suspect is at least 5 years away).

For all we know, installing a productized snake robotic charger cable could be (almost) a straight up cable replacement for superchargers. These snake charger cables might be usable both by hand and automatically.

At the time of the demo, Tesla could have a lead vehicle install the snake cables ahead of the autonomous demo vehicle(s).

Had I to guess, I would say Tesla could automate most of their superchargers within 24 months or less from the beginning of the roll-out which could start, well, anytime now.

Amazing, when I invested in Tesla, I figured Tesla had a 3-5 year first mover advantage. That advantage would allow Tesla to grow to 1 million cars at some point, maybe be a Honda and make 2 million cars. Now we are 8 years into this and still not a single serious contender. People will only buy other, more expensive and under-performing options for flair (buttons, and big grills), and negative Elon chatter.

I know, but that would turn it into a "stunt"

I don't see Tesla upgrading the entire network with robots in the near future. It would more than double the cost to maintain the network and limit the speed at which they could expand it to more locations. And all for very little additional real-world functionality. But, sure, it would be cool.

I believe that after “Battery Day” Elon will have the tools to multiply the capabilities of solar; The combination of solar and muscular energy storage will empower Tesla’s Master Plan.

Increasing storage density while lowering costs — at the single family residence, multi-family residential, commercial, industrial, and utility levels — will give Tesla the ability to disrupt the utility industry.

The macro-grid (i.e. the US grid) will be replaced by micro-grids (local community grids), and nano-grids (small residential grids).

You got me to buy more :)

Thanks for that. There are at least two areas in that video that I just noticed have what appear to be foundations for large format aluminum diecasting.

So perhaps four or five large format diecasting areas (at 2:15, 2:40, 2:52, 4:13, and 6:24)? Unless I am mistaken and some of these are foundations for other purposes.

I have numbered the foundations in the attached image.

Maybe the Snake should be in the car and should be controlled by FSD/AI. Find the power plug :)
 
dang it. I saw it dip to $992 and went and opened my account and set an order to buy at market and by the time I hit execute the stock was back up at 998.50.
Poor poor pitiful me...but I can dream of telling people...I bought all my shares of TSLA when it was 3 digits.
Sorry to hear that you missed out on the 2 digits ;)
 
Profitability from EVs and battery storage is clear. When do you believe solar becomes a significant contributor to Tesla's bottom line?
Not sure. It has not been a priority. However, much of the stationary storage is very much connected to solar power even if panels are supplied or installed by others. It's the nexus that's important to me, more so than as stand-alone product lines.

I think VW gets it, since it was their plan before. But they can't do it.

An internal source from Volkswagen explained that ID.3’s software issues were mostly due to a lack of qualified personnel. But apart from the lack of programmers and vehicle software specialists, key individuals have also been departing from VW. Among these is Martin Hoffman, the CIO responsible for Volkswagen’s IT division, who will be leaving the automaker at the end of this month. “It’s an absolute disaster.
