Just picked up my car at Houston North. Overall a good experience. It was a little busy but I got what I needed. The paint was close to perfect. One small blemish in the clear coat above the right passenger door. It was a bright sunny day so inspecting the paint was easy but it was hot so it wasn’t something I wanted to do for too long. o_O It looked great. I thought there were scratches on the wheel covers and rims but it wound up being some grease smeared on it. I found a few blemishes that wound up just being dirt. Be sure to take a microfiber cloth with you to delivery! I do have an issue with the back seat alignment and the headliner wasn’t tucked properly under the gasket for the hatch. The drivers door needs some adjusting as it doesn’t close as easily as it should but operates fine for now. All these things were logged with the delivery guy. I’ll put in a service request for all that and anything else I find when I do a more detailed inspection tomorrow morning.

I have to say the car is way better than I expected. I guess all the bad reports set my expectations very low. The delivery went very well. They helped get the app set up on my phone before I left. I’m hoping that this is a sign that Tesla is fixing things in the production process and improving quality. Let’s hope all the cars from this point forward are at least this good if not better. I’m breathing a big sign of relief.

Now on to the fun stuff!:D

congrats! Sounds like your car was in a bit better shape than mine! Enjoy!

Here is Sparky. Just wanted to show you what I saw yesterday. Not 100% perfect but way better than earlier deliveries. My expectations for this car weren’t a perfect car as I know Tesla isn’t that kind of manufacturer yet. I sincerely hope this is an indication things are getting better and from now on big quality issues are rare and not common. The tag at the very bottom of the B pillar says 5/20 so I assume it was made sometime last month.

Thank yu for sharing your story and a picture of your new ride. It looks like i ordered the same car you did, I hope to hear something soon. Congrats, and enjoy!

I did a complete check this morning and found several more things. Most are fixable or something I can live with. I found scratched door hinges on the left side, both doors. Small scratch in the left rear door window and in the interior door panel in the left rear. The left seat release in the trunk releases both seats for some reason and it has the loose back cover of the rear center seat that most folks are reporting. The hatch door need some adjustment too. Mobile service appointment set up for Thursday. Doubt they can do all of this at that appointment. We will see. I really want the home link module installed. Overall I’m happy. We will see how the local service is.

One more thing I’d like to share, I did really think about my charger location. The cable just fits in my garage. I don’t like it pulling on the plug when it is plugged into the car so I will probably back in when charging. I didn’t measure it. I made the assumption that 18 feet was plenty, wrong! The charger is on the back wall of a two car garage, a bit left of center.

I got the homelink installed Friday, but had some bad luck afterwards with a coolant hose coming loose (manufacturing defect). The homelink is great. If you want it, go ahead and order it, should take about 45 minutes to install by mobile service. Each of the 3 settings can be set to open on arrival/departure individually.

The charger location is definitely something to be wary of...18 feet isn't as far as you think it is, once you have to deal with droop and angle of attach. Waiting on my gen 3 wall charger...then will figure out the optimal location and decide which side of the garage the roadster gets and which side the Y gets....

Well, picked up my Model Y today from the Plano location. The inside was pretty much immaculate imo.

The outside, on the other hand, definitely has some things I hope they can fix. Frunk/Hatch can both use some realignment. Passenger side rear door is tough to close, and there’s a gash in the ‘tint film’ on the roof glass. Most of the lower exterior black trim pieces were covered in a white residue (I guess from transport) and a few don’t seem to be latched/aligned properly. The passenger side front fender has a ~2.5” scratch, but doesn’t seem to be very deep. A few other spots could probably use some paint touch up.

Overall, a little bummed by the exterior condition but the car itself is so much fun. I walked around and looked at a few of the other Y’s, and unfortunately they all had some variety of exterior issues.

SparkyTX, thanks for starting this thread. Since buying a Tesla in Texas is such a mysterious and uncertain process, it helps to see the experiences of others. I'm so happy you finally got to take possession of yours! It is visually identical to mine. I'll honk if I see you on the highway.

I took our Y for its first roadtrip this weekend. Drove 206 miles from Houston to my original hometown of Joaquin, TX. Deep East Texas is not very EV friendly, but it went great. On the way up, we added a bit of juice at the Nacogdoches SC. It was not necessary, but since it was our first trip, we were cautious. The trip computer listed the power consumption at about 285 wh/mi, which is better than I anticipated. The return trip was made all the more easy because my Dad has 50 amp outlet for a welding machine and the N. Houston service center had a NEMA 6-50 in stock. Even so, on the way home, we again stopped at the Nacodoches SC to make sure we had enough juice to drive through the EV desert of US-59. Our consumption rate from Nac to Houston was given as 265 wh/mi, which was even better than the outbound trip. We were aided by clouds and light rain for half of the trip which dropped the temps and reduced the A/C load. We left the Nac SC at 76% and arrived at home 160 miles later at 19%. If that was truly 57% of our range, that equates to 280 mi if we had driven it from 100% to 0%. That's pretty close to the EPA range (315 for the dual motor). We had 2 adults + 2 teens + 1 dog + luggage in the vehicle and we kept the interior temp at 70F and the average speed was about 68 mph. I'm pleased with that. It really put a lot of our range anxiety to rest.

I called the delivery guy I had been speaking to as I was going over the car. He told me to take pictures of everything I could find and to email them to the delivery center. The service people weren’t in (4:30pm on Sunday), but I was told it should be able to go in to have things fixed/looked at within the next two days. We’ll see what happens!

Looks like the process for addressing delivery issues varies. I found a few things on the initial inspection but didn't want to spend hours at the service center, so I showed my delivery guy the ones I found. He told me to insure I check the car in the next 24 hours and then schedule a service appointment for them. I did that, about 10 items that I know mobile service won't be able to address completely. We will see.

Now for a new topic for us Texans.... anyone have the joy of trying to get their car registered and plates ordered yet? I was told the paperwork would be FedExed to me in 7-10 days. I'm hoping I can do this without having to go to the tax office as those places are a mess and I can't even imagine what they would be like now. I think we can do this all on line but the local Harris county system seems to be down or very slow today. Any insight from anyone that has done this already would be great!

I have been lurking on the forum for some time and I have divided everyone posting here into 4 general categories:
  1. You ordered a black-interior performance Y. You could place a second order today, walk away from your computer, and your car has a good chance of being in your driveway by the time you make it outside. (Your first order may or may not come through.)
  2. You ordered a black-interior long-range Y. You are no longer reading this forum because you are having so much fun driving it cross-country.
  3. You ordered a white-interior performance Y. You have heard rumors of precisely 5 other people getting one in the nation but you don't actually know any of those people and can't confirm anything.
  4. You ordered a white-interior long-range Y. You have heard absolutely nothing. Your grandmother knows more about the whereabouts of your car than your delivery specialist. You are eyeing the above three people with envy. Even #3 has at least some hope.
I of course am in category 4. I ordered my blue/white long-range 30 minutes after Elon walked off stage last year. Tesla has undoubtedly made some money on the $2500 loan I gave them. (To be fair I have made much more back on TSLA stock so I cannot complain.) While my delivery specialist was very communicative last month. This month I have heard nothing and there is no VIN. I was hoping to take the Y on a trip in July but sadly not sure if that is going to happen.

I wish I could convince my self to get black interior but... this is Texas... and August is not far off...

Category 4 here as well, as you have called me out with this post. Haha. Be patient, I think that if a VIN is not assigned in 8 days we will see it happen early July.
