Did someone on the call say that, or is this an assumption?

Education of consumers is not a useful approach. 'Just more BS.' The hard fact of a better battery warranty (10 years/200,000 miles and transferable to the next owner?) would be helpful IMO.

Same problem in the US. Self driving buses seem like a significant challenge for a market that's a tiny % of cars, and Elon doesn't believe in fixed route public transport, and I anticipate lots of harassment for self driving buses from pedestrians and motorists, at least in the US. Maybe...

Tesla Energy and utility scale projects

And the supervisor of the Tesla crew at my house moaned about the weight of the old Powerwalls. I wish they'd sell 50 and 100 kWh home batteries that sit on a concrete pad and are brought in with a forklift.

I've wondered for a long time whether autopilot gives horse and buggies enough room when passing. And three lane roads with passing not allowed in either direction (common here): will autopilot use the center lane to pass a buggy? All human drivers do that even though it's not legal. I've...

Yes and it's interesting, but it's the software that matters. If they have the software, they could use modified Y's as RT's and do fine. Without the software, the RT prototype is just a future museum piece. The RT prototype is just the magician's attractive assistant, it seems to me. But if...

Jim Farley's announcement said Ford will: - Postpone the new Lightning (I read elsewhere it might get a new name) from late 2025 to 2026. This isn't a long delay, and given that this is a all-new vehicle to be built in a new factory campus now under construction, delay isn't a big surprise. -...

I believe the CT will have a market for years, but I'm not sure it will break out of niche player status. A more compact pickup could be a big player around the world. I expect to buy one if Tesla offers me a dual motor CT for $79,900 (even though my relatives are already disgusted that I...

Western Road Trip in a Model 3

All good except maybe for the part about the bikes. I don't know how old you are. Long ago I was an avid cyclist. Last summer my nephew, trying to be helpful, got me to try an e-bike. Afterwards I decided to let this go out of fear of injury. Since them a relative, about my age, crashed her...

I owned a 2013 Ford Focus Electric, a BEV made in the US 2012-2018. It drove well and I liked it except for the 76 mile EPA range, higher the last couple of years. Made in small quantities on the same assembly line as gas Focuses. Early on they had a problem with unexpectedly going dead...

Well, remember Elon's advice to Rivian: get the first plant working before you start on the second. The unboxed Model 2 is sufficiently new and different that this might apply. Hopefully they are moving forward with supporting infrastructure for the Monterrey factory.

Polestar has cut the US price of the 3 by $10,500 to $74,800 including destination. Imported from China, will later be built in South Carolina. Deliveries to start 2Q24 per Polestar. No tax credit, of course. I recall their CEO saying they wouldn't follow Tesla's lead with price cuts...

TE app doesn't include car charging

My Tesla solar was installed September 2021. No Powerwalls. The usage info on my app doesn't include the car charger, which is on a separate circuit on the panel but there's only one electric meter. Right now the car is charging at 7 kW but the app shows the whole house is using 2.4 kW, all...

Tesla chose to build the megapack factory in Lathrop, CA, and they've been spending $ to upgrade Fremont, so apparently ending CA manufacturing is not on Elon's list. Also moving Fremont auto manufacturing to TX would increase the distance from battery production in NV. And Tesla recently...

GM has cancelled its plan to replace ICE vans with EV's for 2026. They also canceled their electric compact pickup. They still make the BrightDrop electric vans in small numbers (497 sales in 4Q23). https://www.autoweek.com/news/a46869879/gm-chevy-silverado-gmc-sierra-phevs-coming-to-market/

    Brown Metallic Paint Question

It's been said before, but Tesla's original colors were the best. In 2013 I could have strained and spent $60,000 to buy a Model S with 160 mile range or $41,000 to buy a Focus Electric with 76 miles range, both eligible for $7500 US tax credit. I regret that I opted for the latter. One...

Is there info on how much it adds to electricity usage to park and charge an EV outside year-round in a four season climate vs. a garage? I've had bad experiences with rodent damage on ICE vehicles parked in my driveway. I wonder if an EV would fare worse due to battery heat when charging...

IMO FSD won't affect TSLA until it's level 5. Because of the long history and because few people understand V12, FSD will have to be actually in place and driving while everyone in the car naps or works on their laptop before it will make a difference to TSLA. Or maybe level 4 will be a...

The answer might be that he's discouraged, but success is still a possibility and he's not prepared to let it go. And the $500 million is over five years. And they have to employ people in NYS to do something or pay big bux to the state.

This afternoon when I read that Tesla is now offering POS US tax credits, I leaped off my chair and drove to the local Tesla store and bought a LR Y. Although I'd seen $5,000 discounts before on LR Y's, today was the first time I saw this on LR Y's with no options. So a great EV at a great...

They haven't started building the high-volume production factory, and they need the 4680's they can make for the CT (although if the eight Austin production lines are on-line by the end of the year, they might finally be cranking them out). But hopefully this will be a good prediction for 2025.
