The only technical detail in the article is "energy density of over 400 Wh/kg", which sounds encouraging when compared to the 268 Wh/kg estimated for M3 21700 cells, but we will need to know about cycle life, charge rates, manufacturability, etc., before getting too excited about this announcement.

I think that high-density batteries will have applications, so it's still good to see them in production.

Certainly, though if for example cycle life is limited to 300 then it will never be much use for cars, despite the improved energy density, unless it can be made extremely cheap and replaced every 2 years.

Right, cycle life is a cost issue: cost of battery, cost of replacement.
