The Mystery of the Edit Button

Has anyone actually used the edit button? The purchase agreement mentions a $500 fee for any changes to your configuration. Is that actually the case?

It’s better if you call them to make any changes. And if you haven’t been assigned a VIN yet most likely you won’t be charged the extra $500. Even if you have a VIN assigned they can probably add software update stuff like EAP FSD without the extra charge.

Just another data point to support the implication of the edit button disappearing. After configuring on 6/28, I completed most of the delivery info except for insurance and still had the edit button showing. Edit button disappeared about 3 days ago and today I received an email from my assigned ISA indicating production of my Model 3 was complete and delivery would be ‘soon.’ I ordered LR RWD, MSM, 18” wheels.

Agreed! Congrats. Where are you taking delivery? Costa Mesa? When did you configure?

I did use the edit button and changed the color option on June 28th, had initially configured/ordered on May 20. I was not charged any fee, I think that is because of the fact that they didn't start building my car (AWD). I would suggest calling Tesla and confirming before making any changes though.

I wanted to change my option to white interior. I have the edit button, but when I click it, it takes me to the previous page(My Tesla page with Manage...). Has anyone run into this? May be an issue with their site?

I did this about 12 hours ago. It took me to an page to confirm with the terms and conditions. I did not see anything about the new data plan or $500 change so I accepted. It showed up right away that I had the premium white interior selected. They are updating the P and all the LR (non-AWD) delivery timeline so that might be it.

Anybody have a phone number to share? Everything I can turn up is for the Model S configuration change. The FAQ doesn't mention how to make Model 3 changes once the button has gone.

The only difference you would see in regards to the data plan would be in the description of the premium options in the configurator, where it would say "1 year of free connectivity" or something like that. But if you had previously ordered before July 1, you would still be grandfathered in and it wouldn't matter anyway.

Call the sales (888-518-3752) or customer service (877-798-3752). It will be a long wait so put your headphones on and go about your day as normal until somebody picks up. They WILL pick up and once you get through to somebody they are super helpful and will help you to make your desired change or answer any other questions/concerns.

Good luck!

In case others saw this, there was some kind of a change to my and another community member's order yesterday. We were both in an odd configuration limbo where the car variation (M3P) was missing, but M3P-only options (like the spoiler) were present. It might be because we were early orderers on the 26th. We both had our orders modified for us yesterday to correct it. Until then, I had an edit button, but as of Monday, it exhibited the behavior mentioned above (takes you back to the My Tesla page without opening the configurator).

After their edits, I lost my edit button completely, along with the option to change anything about my order. The night before, I had noted the issue on the price, along with a note on my insurance (since the expiration had updated since my order). Now I have a "48 hours" page (though no one has ever contacted me, of course). I did call shortly after the change, and all they could say for certain was that I hadn't been assigned a VIN. I didn't learn anything else about the process that hasn't already been posted here.

Oh yeah, following the update, I finally had a delivery estimate: Sep/18 to Nov/18. As far as I can tell, everyone without a VIN is seeing this, so that's kind of crap, too.

Of course, no sooner than I post that, the page changed. It now says:

A delivery experience specialist is reviewing your changes and will contact you prior to delivery

at the top.

They just published an update to the website about a couple of hours ago. This *may* just be new language that replaces the previous wording ("A specialist will contact you within 48 hours") which caused a fair amount of confusion and misplaced expectations.

You know, I don't know how Tesla could possible be any more opaque about their order process. You'd think they'd at least cut the line waiters some slack. Instead, we're lumped in with everyone who opted not to give them a free $1K loan for two years. At least I'll get a Hot Wheels car out of it... maybe.

I was just telling a coworker today how I bought and drove home my current car (a very nice VW Eos) three days after I discovered they even existed, and I even got the color I wanted.
