The significant milestones Tesla will hit in the first half of 2020

How about this for three incredible milestones that Tesla will soon hit:

1. Tesla Model 3 will overtake Nissan Leaf as the world's highest-ever selling BEV, around Feb/Mar 2020
2. Tesla will become the first manufacturer to have sold half a million units of any BEV model (Model 3) around April 2020.
3. Tesla will become the first manufacturer to have sold 1 million BEVs, also around April 2020.

After that, can anyone ever catch them?

They are yet to be able to demonstrate an ability to reliably turn a profit.

Their biggest talent is being able to reliably and repeatedly tap equity and debt markets despite that. I wish I knew how to pull off that trick.

Don't get me wrong, their products are amazing and awesome. As a business, they suck. But the markets do not care so good on them.

What’s relevant here is could they turn a profit if they chose to - and the answer is yes. They are not selling their products below cost, so if they slowed or stopped investing for growth then they could “reliably turn a profit”. But what would that prove? And how would that be consistent with the mission? It would be dumb and lazy.

Tesla is growing at breakneck pace and investing all of their free cash flow into more growth. Not many people think that is the wrong strategy.
