Oh don't worry at all. I had a match hold on until late February, it's how I missed the March rush. I ordered back in November when the estimated delivery was March, I was offered a car in December. It was way too soon and I mirror your excitement getting it earlier, but I needed March as coincided with a bunch of stuff. My account just showed 'On hold' where your expected date is. Tesla are fine with it :)

Word of advice... enable matching sooner than later, else you end up like me in the violin club 😂😂🤣😆😁 - it's a bit risky just in case orders go haywire, and you end up waiting even longer. When's the earliest you think you can take a car? There are some clever formulae you can use to try to unhold at the optimum time! BUT even if you're not on hold you can always refuse a match, which I haven't been brave enough to do more than the once! 🙃
Honestly thank you so much for detailing your experience. I am going to go back and ask for Q3/Q4 pushback. Hopefully they will be happy to do this.

@rrajah , @Lucky J thanks for the info. I will contact the hotline after I have gather more info from Snowy77 or the others here.

@Snowy77, appreciate it if you can give more detail what the "On Hold" process is. Do you mean that when you refused the delivery offer, your car was put "On hold" and then you need to wait for your next turn (and you don't know when it will be? Do you need to explicitly release your hold? And, what will happen when the hold is released?

After I had decided to buy a Tesla Model 3 in early 2022, I kept checking the Tesla website the estimated delivery date. In Jan2022, I found that it was May2022. It was too early to me, so I kept checking every now and then. My target is to have the car in around September. However, I found that the estimated delivery date suddenly jumped to Nov2022. It was a bit too late to me but It seemed that I had no other choice at that moment so I placed the order on 13Feb2022. In short, the earliest that I can have the car is September this year. Please shed some light how the "formulae" works.

I don't trust Tesla to improve it and there is too much risk of making things worse if it is rushed. So, I am going to take my time over it and do it myself.
Just completed a 7 hour marathon of cleaning, machine polishing x2 and sealing x2 the paint to finally rid it of swirls. I used Chemical Guys VSS with a green hexlogic pad followed by Bill-Hamber Double Speed-Wax.

It's not absolutely perfect, but is much better.

Picked up today from Newcastle and it is a stunner! What surprised me is the 99% charge the car had, contrary to what I’ve heard others say! The reps at Newcastle are really friendly and the process was so smooth I kept thinking that can’t be it!

The build quality is absolutely immaculate. Zero issues and everything feels very solid. I’ve showed the car to a friend who has a Mercedes and now he wants a Tesla!

This is the RWD and it is fast as eff, and the sound quality really impressed me, the door woofers are quite powerful!

I could not be happier, this car is perfect! Good luck to everyone else here waiting on their cars, it will be the best decision you’ve ever made. :)
Wow, same spec as mine. White on white is beautiful. Only 9 days to go for me.

I saw a black MY in NW London with GJ22 plate and still had stickers on the wheels so I expect it had just been picked up. Looks really good. It’s the first one I’ve seen in person.
I saw 4 MY’s in London today. 2 driving around 2 parked. I must admit, the look is certainly growing on me (except white with geminis, that combo doesn’t do anything for me, sorry).

Back on topic.

My November 2022 estimated delivery just got moved to 22 May - 19 June.

It’s not ideal for my circumstances but the idea of having it for the summer is making me think to myself “fk it, yolo, you know?” I’m trying to be rational but why not live life, you know!? Gotta live life! You know? Right?

(This is me trying to convince myself it’s a good idea to take it earlier even if it does mess with my circumstances)

Just speaking from experience here- The estimated date you see when you first order is a sort of 'target' date for you to get the car. This is what I'd probably consider to be the organic delivery date. Tesla (depending on availability and a lot of ethereal factors) sometimes draw your numbers in a lottery and you'll end up getting a call or your ETA shifting on your account. If you're ready for a car this is awesome! If not, sometimes can be a bit too soon especially if you have stuff going on or simply not ready.

Two ways to delay an order.. the NOT advised way is to leave your order open, and keep rejecting cars... don't do this, once or twice but more than that and... well, probably not good to find out 😉

The preferred way is to put a match hold until date X. You do this by speaking to Tesla and explicitly ask for a match hold until say, Q3 or Q4 if you happy to be non specific. Then you will see a message on your account .... ON HOLD until.... September 28th (or something). Rule of thumb is if you're within your organic ETA there are no issues.. it's if you ask for a match hold until 6 months after your original ETA they will likely cancel your order, give you your deposit back, and ask you to reorder when you're ready.. losing you a place in the queue.

We notice that the first month of the quarter is shipping month.. so it looks like Tesla fulfil local market during the last month of the Quarter. So we generally see a gap; a no delivery gap during the first month of the quarter when ships are in transit. April for instance, no arrivals in Southampton; BUT you betcha there are ships incoming from Shanghai from the start of April. Transit time of about a month. I have an ETA of May 9th - 21st or something, but this should coincide with a very early May delivery....

Anyway back to match hold. When you have a match hold, you're still in the queue (as advised by a Tesla rep). The nearer your organic date is the higher in the queue you are. You don't lose your place as you order date will keep you good. So if you saw March 2023, likely your car will be shipped and matched sometime in January. You need to stop the match hold or ask for the hold to lift sometime in January. This way you should be allocated something during the February shipping.. You could get lucky and Tesla will call you to say you have a match, but it's at this point you can choose to take it or decline, and you'll get matched again in the next ship.

In short, try to lift a match hold at the end of the shipping cycle the quarter before, if you want to snag a car at the start of the next Quarter. I.e. February for a May delivery (like me) - (no cars shipped from Shanghai in March, so February is too late for the Q1 deliveries, but plenty of time to be in line for Q2s).

I'd start here but keep in touch with your Tesla rep. I left mine a little too late and missed March... Since there are no deliveries in April, I have snagged the first of the Q2 ships 👍

It's a friends birthday today, so I have had way too much to drink.. hope I sort of make sense. I'll probably re-read this tomorrow and WTF myself lol 🤯😵‍💫🤣
