Updates while on vacations

I've done it while away, overseas, and not going to be back or over a month. However, I've also chosen to wait until after I return.

Now if the car was not at your home and not plugged in, then I'd probably suggest you wait. Since neither of those apply, not much different than you were at home. Biggest risk is something goes wrong and the car is non-responsive. But that risk really no different than if you were at home in your house.

I’ve installed while on long road trips and I’ve waited. It depended on the update and how near I was to Tesla Service. FWIW, I would wait 3 weeks until, I got home.

I just updated to v11 with my car using my iphone hotspot as wifi connnection while parked next to the beach in FL. No issues at all. Simple to do.

Golden rule for any software update: never do an update unless you can be around to fix problems.

Thanks all - while there seems to be no problem - there is no reason to take the risk and not being around @ATPMSD states a good reminder

No benefit to doing an update if you’re not going to use the car. If you don’t already have the Holiday Update, you’re probably not going to like it anyway.

I update remotely soon as I get them, so I have a better chance of getting the fixes coming next before returning home
