Were they in the Race or just driving the Trails? It looks like they are on flat Ground and not actually on hard Trails. Which is a good thing. Just from the pictures it doesn't seem like it broke on the Rocks and they managed to drive it to that spot. Looks like the Truck broke pretty close to where it ended up.

It’s at the King of Hanmers with other trucks including the Lightning, Rivian and ICE.

Looks like it broke after doing donuts.

Supposedly on stock suspension with aftermarket wheels and tires, guess it’s not ready for Baja

Just needs an OTA Software update from Tesla…
Ah, it was mostly stock suspension with aftermarket sway links. Snapped a bolt at the end of day 2.

King of the Hammers was EPIC! Optima put on an incredible event for the EV community where we made new friends, hung out with old friends and best of all got to test and learn with a UP development Cybertruck and UP Model Y in the most extreme conditions. Both performed incredibly well, exceeding our expectations in both capability and pure fun. Our development Cybertruck is still mostly stock but does have our UP INVINCIBLE dry carbon fiber fender flares, front and rear quick-disconnect sway bar endlinks, and 20” UP-03 Forged Beadlock wheels on Yokohama X-AT tires. The Model Y is fitted with our 3” lift Dirt & Snow Pro Coilovers, 18” UP-03 Forged Beadlock wheels and coming-soon quick-disconnects, and off-road rear bar.We didn’t hold back and we pushed both vehicles to the limits since our product development goals are always to push hard, to explore the limits and whenever possible to develop products to lift the limits even higher.KOH is known for being extremely brutal on cars. Naturally, with any vehicle in extreme conditions and absolutely SENDING IT, things can break. Anyone who has been to KOH knows that broken bits are commonplace. We completed two full days of hardcore driving and had a blast. At the end of day two we had a bolt give out on the Cybertruck. We were going pretty nuts on the truck both days with no concerns whatsoever. As such we’re not concerned with this bolt. Repair is in progress and it is an opportunity for us to learn. We’ll continue to push the Cybertruck platform hard in our desire to campaign the most hardcore Cybertrucks in the most hardcore terrains. The Cybertruck is epic! And this is just the beginning.More pictures will be added to this thread. Stay tuned for further details from KOH coming along with a full video vlog.#KingOfTheHammers

This is good stuff though, it’ll put to the rest that this thing will dominate off roading right out the box.

There will probably be some good aftermarket parts to come out of this that will make this car phenomenal off road.

Tesla should reconsidering the CyberBeast and give it a Ford Raptor Treatment. It’s not just about speed.

Imagine that with some development Electric off road will develop into crawlers far superior in capability to gassers.

The low center of gravity, instant and precisely controllable torque plus regenerative braking for downhills will probably be superior to high horsepower gas engines, going through transmissions.

Computers will be able to provide exactly the right amount of positive/negative torque in any challenging situation.

A huge leap forward will be when 48v electronics are integrated into those vehicles. Steering will be much more precise and less taxing to the driver. Winches will be far stronger and will offer weight reduction benefits.

Perhaps the first generation will be a reworking of the CyberTruck components, including rear steer. Sharp corners will be less challenging and smoother. Shorter turning radious will be a huge benefit off road in the rough stuff.

Imagine DARPA will want to get involved with this to transport troops and supplies into battle.

Full Self driving, combined with Tesla Vision, GPS and Ai might allow the EV to perform even better without a driver than a gasser with a driver.

Of course, this might also take some of the human driver involvement fun out of the challenge, but in competition, EV will far surpass a gasser.

The super burly off-road vehicles use hydraulic cylinders for steering. There's no way electric steering could be as durable (unless of course it's powering the hydraulic pump).
The problem with electric is battery weight. For short races it could dominate but for anything long it wouldn't work.
I could see military vehicles using some sort of serial hybrid setup but not batteries.

You can see the passenger side rear wheel go wonky right at the end:
Though they seem to be claiming that's not when it broke.
Here is unplugged performance "clarifying" without giving any details about what broke except to say it was "a bolt"
Rumors are that it was a bolt attaching the rear tie rod. Tie rods are usually the weak point on 4x4s with independent front suspension, intentionally as a "mechanical fuse" for the steering rack. I've never heard of a bolt breaking (though maybe they upgraded the tie rods making the bolt the weak point?).
I wonder how good the steering racks are at detecting broken teeth or if you could feel it through the wheel? Seems like a potential issue with steer-by-wire that you could damage the rack off-roading and not notice... especially if it's in the rear.

Was the part that broke something that was modified? Its hard to find details but the truck seemed to have mostly cosmetic updates and different/wheels and tires.

The way people are talking its like the suspension was all tubular links with rod ends or something more radical than what appears to be done.

Im sure the military and other groups are not interested in cybertruck. It’s basically an electric Ridgeline, it’s not some super capable vehicle (despite marketing claims). Its a mall crawler for tech bros.

All they're saying is that it was a stock bolt. It's weird, with any other 4x4 people are happy to show what broke.
