As of today more than half (53%) of the people on the other poll said they want the Sport but it depends on price. There's no conflict with this poll.
Looking at the poll results of this thread, these 53% appear to max out at $90k. That gives $12k for the sport package (bargain!). I think it's safe to say that we all hope for a sub $12k sport package but mentally prepare for significantly more...

Oh yes, I think it's going to be somewhere around 20k.

90k USD will convert to somewhere 75k in euro's, good enough for me.

I will be getting the 230 mile Model S (Anza Brown) with Tan Interior and Banana Wood Dash. Also want 21" wheels (they look so much better) and the Air Ride suspension (offset the slightly harsher ride of the low profile tires). Leather and Nav defiinitely.

I would love the Sport Option but adding $15K - $20K is not worth it to me (I'd pay $5K if I could stick with 230 mile pack).

I have no illusions that I can take my Model S on road trips so I just need a car that can get me from one end of Atlanta-land to the other and back again.

160 Mile Pack does not cut it because (1) highway speeds cut range dramatically (2) battery can lose 70% of capacity in 7-10 years and (3) Atlanta-land is sprawlingly huge.

I doubt I'll get the sunroof because (1) I'm 6'4" and I think the motors for the sunroof cause the sides of the roof to intrude more on headroom and (2) I think glare will already be an issue for the 17" display and without a shade I think the sunroof will make it worse.

I think the 230 mile car will have more options available than the 160.

And even though my son is 5 years old and the rear jump seats seem like a cool option, I will probably pass on those because (1) He's already over 4' tall and will outgrow them in a couple years (2) I can't see him sitting back there unless all other seating positions are taken OR he's got a friend with him and (3) most importantly I watched how the front of the car crumpled in the crash video and it seems like the back would do the exact same - hard to see how it could be truly as safe back there as inside the main cabin.

I'm throwing out my whole thought process in case someone else has some insight that might change my mind.

And I would love to lease the car so that I have the option after 3-5 years to hand the keys back to Tesla if it is not everything that we hope and believe it will be. I think that just like the Roadster got a lot better between 1.0 and 2.5, I would not be surprised if by 2016 I'm jones-ing for the latest and greatest model from Tesla.

Has anyone considered that they might like to have a Model X instead of a Model S? I am glad they're releasing the prototype on that this year before we have to decide on the Model S.

I think it was designed to do that. If they intend children to sit in the back, I can't see them designing it to do that.

Yep, always chasing the future, but I'd hope some of the updates could be transferred back (new wheels, lights etc). I don't see Tesla doing a lease on first gen, but you could always get it financed.

Yes, in the X forum there's been some discussion on that. I'd like both to be honest. We have a sedan and a crossover, would love to replace them both.

One would think that if Elon's kids are sitting back there he's going to demand that it be safe. Still I am a little skeptical. It might boil down to not really using that option that often (even though I'm in the demographic).

I doubt I'll get the sunroof

Great post WhiteKnight! After reading it, I'm now waffling a bit on the pano roof. I've *never* wanted a sun roof before. Expense, maintenance, leaking, bald head - lots of reason for not wanting it. I think the main reason I'm considering it is the WOW factor. "The whole roof is glass?" On the other hand, if I get the "normal" roof, I'll be able to save probably $5k and I should be able to use a roof rack and be able to transport full sheets of plywood and other crap if I wanted.

I have to say, I'm still suffering from sticker shock. Until this year, when we bought the used SLK, we'd *never* purchased a "luxury" car. It's been $4,000 used Escort type cars and wagons. And now we're staring at a $110,000 figure?!!! :scared:

Until now, my mind was locked into $80k for the price. (The after tax rebate price.) $50k + $20k for batteries + $10k for Signature options. While I pretty much figured the pano roof wouldn't be standard for Signature, I didn't really internalize it. I also didn't think about air suspension. I certainly hadn't planned on the Sport package! Part of the reason for this thread is to help me re-calibrate and to figure out exactly what I need as opposed to what would be neat to have.

At least I won't be as shocked in December when they hopefully release the options list and pricing.

WhiteKnight definitely knocked some sense into me! Thanks! I've edited my prior post - $70,000 and that's it. I'll get the 230 pack (160 would indeed be touch-and-go in a few years) and maybe, use the 2K for an extended warranty but, I'll go barebones otherwise.

I like owning though vs leasing and would likely hold onto the car for 8+ years (the age of my TL by the time I get the Model S).

I'm not one to typically ride with the roof open, but panoramic roofs tend to make the car feel more open IMO.

I like the idea of the panoramic roof, and the 21" wheels, and the sports package, etc....

but the S is a bit of a stretch for me, so i'm actively looking for things i can live without frankly. I'm with gg and WhiteKnight mostly - i think i'll likely spring for the 230 battery pack, and then take a hard look at the rest of the options to see if there's anything else i can't live without. Stuff like the jumpseats is right out - i've got 2 kids in the 5-8 range, but it's a completely temporary benefit, useless in a couple of years. One thing i would seriously consider is the air suspension. was sorta sad that they were making that an option instead of included.

I put 90k, but it's really a range of about 70-95k because so many things are going to be value driven. How much is the panoramic roof? For 10k, no. For 5k, maybe. For 3k, yes. How much is premium paint? How much are the 21" wheels. In each case, they're things I'd like, but nothing is a must have.

Consequently, it's not like I'll take whatever fits into a 90k budget. I could very well decide very few of the extras are worth the cost and end up going fairly bare bones 160 or 230. On the other hand, if they're all pretty good value for the $, I might go above budget.

I am in the max $90k camp. I know they said air suspension would be an option, but I am thinking they may have meant driver adjustable air suspension would be the option. Looking at the body in white, there seems to many components integrated for the air suspension not to have it be standard.

Would make sense, especially if the whole "lowering at speed to improve range" thing is integral to good mileage on highways.

$90,000 is looking like the sweet spot. You get the 300 mile pack and you get Signature level options. If you didn't have the Signature edition, you might be able to get the sport package and keep it to $90k if you gave up all the other goodies, but I'm thinking it would be closer to $95k.

If I give up the pano roof, then I should be able to get my Sport below $100k after the tax rebate.

I actually don't know. Norway is generally a ridiculously expensive country for cars especially high end luxury sedans. 550i easily $200 000 in barebones edition. Though I've never bought a car above $4000 before. I originally thought $70 000 would be my max but I've been thinking about stretching that to $80 000 depending on the value of the options as ckessel said so well. I'd like the panoramic roof I think (need to testdrive), I'd like the air suspension but again I'd like to testdrive. I still haven't seen the car on anything but pictures so I don't really know anything.

Not to mention we just bought a new apartment and I had to raid my Model S account for about $30 000 for a deposit. We move in early 2013 so right about the same time I'm supposed to get the Model S. IF our current apartment has increased about 7-10% from now til early 2013, I can easily afford a Model S. Keep in mind the housing in Oslo has increased about 10% this year. If not it all depends on how much our apartment sells for. And how much higher the price in Norway is for the Model S compared to the rest of Europe.

So in some ways I used to know, but now everything is up in the air....
