Robots Will Soon Do Your Taxes. Bye-Bye, Accounting Jobs
I've been doing my own taxes form some years using Intuit's TurboTax, so this transition has to have already begun. I wonder what the trend line is for H&R Block employment. So you'll be able to take a picture of your W-2, 1099, etc. on...
"Industrial Revolution Comparisons Aren't Comforting"
“Why should it be different this time?” That’s the most common response I hear when I raise concerns about automation and the future of jobs, and it’s a pretty simple rejoinder. The Western world managed the shift out of agricultural jobs...
New UBI experiment in Kenya paying 6,000 over 12 years at 1/2 the local wages.
There is a significant difference between short-term experiments in UBI and long-term ones. Hopefully, projects like this one will show a more accurate picture of the mindset of recipients who are receiving UBI...
What if you could get a gas pump for the garage (with magically no fumes) that filled the car every night at 10 cents a gallon, but the catch is that it comes only with a Mercedes S-class sedan.
BTW, has anyone calculated the equivalent cost per gallon?
I predicted autopilot. However, the self-driving bit that will be there next year blew me away! The car will be capable of parking itself in the garage and come out to wait by the front door in the morning!
Now admittedly that is not all that useful. Especially since the car can't plug...

Auto Analyst Predicts The End Of The Industry As We Know Them - Business Insider
Believe me, driverless cars are INEVITABLE and coming sooner than folks imagine. If you know anyone who makes their living by driving, that should start training...
I agree completely X-RAY. Autonomous vehicles are INEVITABLE. They will be far safer, cheaper, and easier than current modes. Just imagine the increase in technological unemployment.
Who will lose their jobs? Taxi drivers, truck drivers, delivery drivers, security guards, etc. etc. etc...
You should provide a detailed write-up on Yelp. Stick to the facts. They may start getting their act together and it will be a service to other owners.
Yes, the BCM was replaced. Yes, they likely would have kept his money, and that's the only glitch in this story. Someone at TM dropped the ball between the new firmware and updating their repair procedures for lost keys.
My hope is that they didn't just fix this glitch, but that they also...
Technological unemployment is something that I'm fascinated by and I like to keep an eye on it. Here are some books that are must-reads for anyone concerned about it:
Robots Will Steal Your Job, But That's OK: How to Survive the Economic Collapse and Be Happy by Frederico Pistono. You can...
Not to mention that Tesla has the constitution on their side. I can't believe the constitution would allow a state to make it illegal to sell a legal product absent a dealership agreement.
It's too late now, but I would have had them spec out the job thoroughly beforehand. Unless you have something in writing that shows they didn't do what you wanted, you don't really have a leg to stand on. You can ask them to re-do the work, but IMO, they are very unlikely to do it.
If they...
Growth that builds on itself. 1% today, 1.1% tomorrow, 1.2% next, 1.4%, 1.8%, etc.
The most famous example is Moore's law. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Moore's_law
When I saw the specs for the car and then I saw, in person, the "amazing magical drive train", I just knew Tesla was going to be big. I knew it just as much as when I saw the first iPad that it was going to be a game changer. Unfortunately, at the time I saw the iPad, I didn't believe in buying...
I don't have a car, I'm assuming that there's a light on the ring around the socket when charging is active. If it goes dark when the car is locked, whether it's charging or not, then my post is a non-sequitur and can be safely ignored. :)
If the charging socket is dark, and I needed a charge, I would have assumed that the charging was finished also and unplugged the car myself. But if the car was actively charging, you're right - it wasn't cool to unplug it.
Edit: Nevermind, the socket is evidently dark whether it's charging...
There are gazillions of positives of self driving cars; from transportation of the blind, elderly, drunk, and infirm, to emergency transport, to easier commutes. However, there will be a huge downside. While productivity will increase tremendously with cost effective self driving vehicles...
This petition has done MUCH better than I expected. I doubt there's much that Obama can do, but I hope it gives the state legislators a feeling of the mood populous.
Elon needs a man/gal Friday. Someone sticking with him like glue who can make sure all the T's are crossed and I's are dotted...
No. They have the least desirable hats, etc.
I agree with Right_Said_Fred; this situation is a double lost opportunity for Tesla. They lose advertising and they lose income from sales of merchandise.
IMO, unless you would have purchased a brand new Porsche, Mercedes, BMW anyway, it's nearly impossible to justify a Model S purchase based on money savings.
This, hopefully, will change with GenIII.
Didn't Elon say they were making something like a million dollars on this stuff? Imagine how much they'd make if they could keep the stuff in stock!!!
Really, how hard is it to keep ball caps in stock?
I think they should only stock loaners with P85+ with all features and make the most profit from the sales. Keep the service centers stocked up with these cars.
fastcars, the gas savings are a very small part of the purchasing equation. Much more important is the driving experience.
Set aside the green sentiments and the desire to get the US off imported oil as soon as possible. Set all that aside and focus on the driving experience and the...
Part of the dealer argument is that they are there to support the end customer if the manufacturer goes bankrupt. Fortunately, we have a recent example of how well that line of thinking went. Just see all the Karma customers who were summarily given the boot by the dealers when Fisker Auto...
Edgar, this might be a perfectly valid technology that you've developed. I just cannot imagine that the car using the technology could have much range, which would mean that the refilling stations would have to be close together, (similar to Better Place), and the filling stations would be very...
sleepyhead, that's the exact reason I didn't sell at $93 after the stock hit $95 and dropped. I felt that it was high and would drop back down to the 70's or lower, but then I had to ask myself what price I would buy back in at. I decided that I believed in Tesla for the long haul, so I might...
