White Interior Thoughts?

Hi all

Yes, it’s probably been discussed in the past here but I’ll ask anyway.

Been offered a MY in Blue but just discovered it has white interior.

I’ve always steered clear of this. For a start I’ve got young kids, which I know isn’t the end of the world and the seats apparently wipe down etc, I get it.

BUT

Over time, surely these white seats when they start to crease and wear etc, surely they start to look a bit crap and don’t hide the wear as good as the black interior? Don’t get me wrong, white looks the biz but I’ve got my realistic head on here.

Just wanted some opinions and thoughts from those who’ve took the white interior route. How far are you down the line? Any issues? Do you regret it?

Thanks.

It looks pretty spectacular, because it's unusual. Black is a common interior on a lot of cars so it doesn't look remarkable.

Despite the above I have read of people having problems with blue jean stains, etc. Others say that it comes out without any issues.

I have white seats but I haven't worn jeans in my car since getting it (in 2020), save for one occasion when a ranger asked me to press the pedals to confirm a replacement light was working. I felt too embarassed to say that I had to go into the house to get changed into trousers.

:(

On balance you'll probably be ok so long as you don't leave stains to fester. I'd say if you got the seats treated with a protectorant of some kind it would probably be easier still to keep them clean.

I love mine. As said above, it is quite distinctive, quite in line with the modern look associated with the minimalist Tesla interior. Sets it apart from a boring black interior, brightens up the cabin too.
No problem with kids, just use baby wipes, or a bit of soapy water for stubborn stains and they look like new.
In fact, with kids the part you'll find yourself most often in need of cleaning is the black backing of the front-row seats... So take advantage of the only benefit of this faux/'vegan' leather. (well, plastic, really...) and go for it 100%.

+ White on Blue is probably one of the most gorgeous combos you'll see (along with MSM 😛)

To be fair, the only thing I don't love is the white plastic trim on the dash, wood looks better (and I know that's one of the biggest grief out there).

I watched all the youtube videos of people trying to stain them - and a quick baby wipe fixed it. I watched those with denim - and fixing it with a baby wipe. I love the look of white and decided that’s what I was having.

THEN….

I remembered I have a child who could make dirt look dirty in a split second so went with black. 👍🏻

Going on 4 1/2 years with my Model 3 LR Blue with white seats. My kids are older now but were younger before. I admit I never used a car seat in it and I pretty much stopped wearing jeans- Other than that, I dont pay any specially attention to them. I wipe them down every now and then with either Baby Wipes or VLR cleaner - so far - nothing has stained them. They look pretty much as good as the day I bought the car.

There is a little bit of stretching on the side bolster of the driver's seat but I don't think it would be any different with the black seats. Would not hesitate for a second to get white agian.

Wouldn't do white again..

I had a White interior 3.. by the time I traded it in it looked awful - the 'leather' had cracked and and was a mixture of blue and grey (blue from jeans, black from my coat, as far as I can tell.. once it gets a colour on it it won't shift even with some pretty harsh cleaners). Tesla probably had to replace the seat... But people told me that was unusual, so I got a white interior Y (although a lot of that was because I couldn't stand the idea of woodgrain, it isn't a 1970s ford escort..)..

It had permanent blue stains on it before it had even got home from the showroom..
Now I sit on a towel to stop it getting worse.

Cheers pal, yeh I’ve heard about folk getting the seats treated

Ha ha, I’m in the same boat. 10 year old and a 3 year old. Although the 10 year old seems to make more mess!

Wow, sounds like a nightmare. Contrasting to what others are saying here.

Mud and stuff comes out.. so I can see if you didn't wear jeans you'd probably be OK, and explains the difference. But denim is a pretty strong dye, and the plastic just soaks it up.. even old jeans seem to leak dye over time. Unfortunately I've been wearing jeans for so long now I don't really own anything else.. hence sitting on a towel.

Best results to remove it I've had was 99% IPA but even then it doesn't remove it completely, just lightens it. I've had ammonia recommended with the caveat it might cause the plastic to degrade, so haven't tried it.. might try it on a small spot.

The cracking due to age is basically just what happens, same as leather.. black would do that as well - I actually got the 3 professionally valeted and they used something to soften it and hide the cracks, which worked quite well for tradein purposes. No idea what he used though.

The other thing I had was a dog car carrier on the back seat. It left little black dots on the back seats that would not come out.. not a problem that would affect most people.. I should have checked the amazon reviews more carefully.

Mate I wear a lot of jeans so might be an issue for me. Wondering if the bairns baby seat would leave any marks?

I haven't worn anything except jeans in my two Model 3's. Questionable daily fashion I accept (hey, I'm retired and live in France - who gives a damn?) but there isn't even a hint of blue on my seats. However, like a well known Duke, maybe I don't sweat...
What I’ve read is that if the jeans are new and the seat is sat in for hours on end, the dye would go onto the seat but if it’s wiped down it’ll go. Problems arise when the dye is left to fester apparently. Just what I’ve read etc.
