Why is SiriusXM such an impossibility on the MS?

Take a look at this thread (Cleanest solution for USB cables from cigarette lighter jack to the front?) where I explain how I got XM working through my iPhone on my Model 3. You can use the phone to make calls and also listen (via bluetooth) to XM.

Hey, So I didn't use your exact solution but here is what I did do which I think should be the same but did not work:

XM Line out aux --> Apple Aux to lightning adapter --> Microsoft App on the iPhone.

All I got was static :-(

This thread reminds me of the old "How do I listen to my mp3s on an iphone?", where you had to jump thru a hogshead of real fire just to get them on the phone and maybe they'll work. It was the reason I returned that iphone and never went back.

Not so easy with a car though lol. I was honestly shocked to learn I didn't have an option for XM in a 80,000 car. Its ridiculous at this price point that its an add-on

Onyx Plus with FM. I've heard FM transmission is HORRIBLE for not only music but even for talk.
...
I know I can stream via my iphone's sirius app but to me that is unacceptable because my phone is a work phone and I can't use that much data for personal use. Also, its ridiculous that I have to pay essentially twice for Sirius because my $80,000 car can't support this basic need in 2019.
On an older car (04 model year) that had no tape deck and no aux in (not common on 04 model year non-luxury cars), I used two different FM transmitters for years. They're definitely not great but not terrible for talk. If that's all you care about, that's your best best and real cheap.

Get another cell phone w/its own plan? (I actually usually carry 3 cell phones: personal iPhone 8, work Android phone (Pixel 3), and another work iOS test device.)

(I have no Tesla but my two EVs (model years '13 and '19 from different automakers) both have SiriusXM radios and yes, I do use them and have subscriptions on them. They both support Bluetooth A2DP music streaming and both have aux in jacks. The '19 also has CarPlay and Android Auto support.)

For Model S, XM used to require the sunroof. The sunroof has now been discontinued and Tesla has added XM support as standard.

Event with XM activated in both our S & X, we periodically listen to XM through our smartphones over Bluetooth because XM has more channels over internet (especially both home and away broadcast for sporting events).

Because there isn't an Aux port and Bluetooth is limited to one device at a time, the only other option you might have is getting a 3rd party installer to add an XM antenna/radio and then using an audio-to-FM transmitter to get the audio through the FM tuner.

Of course, none of these options will allow control of the XM radio through the console display - so changing stations is more difficult than having built-in XM.

Hey all,

I'm new to this site and have owned my Tesla MS for about a year.

So my question is, why is it SO HARD to set up Sirius if it didnt come with your car? Things I have tried/Researched:

Onyx Plus with FM. I've heard FM transmission is HORRIBLE for not only music but even for talk.

AUX to USB. Doesn't work.

AUX to Bluetooth. Apparently BT on Tesla ONLY accepts phones and not a generic BT transmitter.

I've called Tesla and they said they don't recommend 3rd party solutions and won't upgrade me to the built in solution.

I've called best buy and they pretty much said the same.

I even asked Elon Musk on Twitter. Not that I was expecting a response mind you.

I don't think I have left anything out of this rant but I might have. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

To answer the OP question:

Musk didn't want you to have Sirius XM. That's the reason.
