I saw a tear down on the adapter somewhere, and inside the handle is potted with a hard rubbery substance. The circuit in the handle looks like it could take submersion. That filler is where a lot of the weight comes from.

IMHO Model 3 has been built for several years now. Lotta kinks removed. Model Y just out. Kinks to be discovered.

If I were inclined to have a chop shop for those very expensive parts, I would get a secluded building and a tow truck. You don't need keys or a pin to chop.
