    Model S Software/Firmware wishlist

+1000. Also describe what is exactly changing BEFORE it is installed rather than showing 'What's new' AFTER it is already there and no option for rollback. I am tired of new SW breaking stuff.

Should the Model S allow you to drive with the trunk open?

I do it every Wed after trash pick up. I have long driveway and simply put can in the trunk and drive with trunk open. And I generally *hate* electronics that thinks it is smarter than me so it forbids me from doing what I want with a thing I fully own.

Installing a Passport 9500ci radar detector / laser diffuser

I don't go over on highways anyway, typically just go with traffic, never over 70. It's 25mph zones I am concerned with. I haven't had moving violation ticket in 16 years.

Any solutions for seat belt rattle?

Fixed it today in 1 min: put a piece of electric tape over lower edge of the seat belt opening on the B pillar. I actually used black tape, it is not really visible under the seat belt. I guess teflon tape would work even better (can be found at Amazon).

Installing a Passport 9500ci radar detector / laser diffuser

I followed steps and installed 8500ci today (no laser stuff as I don't really need it). The entire process was pretty simple and took less than 2 hours.

    Experince with Radar Solutions

I tried V1 and it sort of works but sensitivity is greatly reduced. I just connected V1 to 12V power and drove around checking signals from automatic doors and stationary speed displays. I know how far V1 used to pick them in BMW so I could compare. V1 works, but sensitivity probably 30%-50% or...

Paint Armor - not worth it

2K Xpel film full hood, fenders, lights, door edges and rear bumper. Since Tesla refunding me $995 its fine.

Paint Armor - not worth it

Apparently paint armor option offered at $995 does not protect lights. And if you want to upgrade, local installers count Tesla option as only $300 (that's how much Tesla pays them to install paint armor option). I was apparently lucky that paint armor was not installed at the factory and...

Why 'Wrap' Your New Model S?

Metropolitan Detail quoted full wrap at $7200. I think one can repaint the entire car for that money. Wrap doesn't change resell value either. I had partial cover on my last two cars and frankly it was not worth it really.

    Audio: Testing audio formats

Tried lossless AAC today - car does NOT play them. It sees files, reads data and album art, but then says "Cannot play this song". Will try MP3s later. Also, car does not recognize 64GB stick formatted as exFAT. Only regular FAT works. Interestingly enough Mac can format stick as MS-DOS FAT, but...

Audio: Any thoughts on the standard sound system?

Got my car couple days ago. I ordered Sound Studio and I am pretty picky about the sound. All my music is lossless and I own 3+ high end systems of various caliber. Anyway - Studio sounds pretty good for the factory system. Quite a bit better than BMW Logic 7 for example. I'd call sound as...

    40kwh Model S canceled

This happens every year in regular cars. First model year leather or nav or parking sensors or whatever are options, in the next year or two they become standard. Happens all the time.

    My bikes fit!

Dahon also makes nice foldable bikes. I can fit two in my current BMW 535 wagon *without* folding rear seats Dahonbikes:Jack D8 Dahonbikes:Espresso D21

    Poor "ownership experience"

Tesla might be doing things as required by law. I'd love to take delivery in CA, visit my friends living down there and drive car up to WA. However, I won't be doing it since CA collects sales tax at the point of delivery and even that I am not going to register car in CA I'd still have to pay...

Will the Model S/X have a spare tire & if not, how is that ok?

None of the houses i owned had fires so i am going to drop home insurance. And local fire brigade will surely come in less than 5 minutes in case something happens... Same logic? :-) Even if truck comes, if I have children in the car will truck have space for them? Is it even legal to get kids...

    Can't decide - Conflicted

I upgraded exactly this way 2 weeks after finalizing. Was told be rep that Tesla likes upgrades.

    Upgrade after finalizing

I'd say doubling range is unlikely. Li-Ion is known technology that has been in use for 10+ years. It is probably at the max capacity. Something new has to come (Zinc-Air most probably) and it may or may not be ready for mass production in 5 years. Besides, there is no real reason to double...

    Upgrade after finalizing

After some reading about actual range, charging stations etc I decided to check if I can upgrade to 85KWh. I finalized 3/1. And what do you know - Tesla was happy to change my order to 85Kwh without changing delivery times. I dropped HPWC and twin chargers and since supercharging is included...

Tesla Sweet Spot: Most Cost Effective Model Choice

Why do you need twin chargers then? I switched from 60 to 85 b/c it includes supercharging (so that's minus 2K) and dropped HPWC and twin chargers since I probably will never need to recharge 60 miles/hr in a hurry at home. Public stations mostly limited to 30A anyway. And second charger is...

    Model S Reservation Tally

This is not entirely true. I reserved 2/15, finalized 3/1 and delivery is end of April. They told me car will be assembled 2nd week of April. So for general production it is more like 2.5 months.

Tesla Sweet Spot: Most Cost Effective Model Choice

Well I drive 30 miles a day and for longer trips I typically need AWD anyway (skiing etc). I took 60k and supercharger since i think with charging networks growing range wont matter as much in 5 years but speed of charging will matter still. For instance you probably didnt calculate how far you...

Audio: Whats the reason for no CD Player in MS? Cause everybody has an iPod?

Actually this is a pretty legal question, if you rephrase it a bit. Question is not really about CD vs USB but rather if it is possible to have two separate sources of material. For example in my current BMW I have my IPod connected and I typically listen to an audiobook. However when i ride...

    audio system oem...?

$100 amplifier has same flat frequency response as $1000 amplifier. The latter just sounds better :-) Besides frequency response time alignment, phase errors and speaker distortions especially at crossover points matter quite a bit. In my BMW 535 I replaced speakers and connected OEM L7 output...

Soon to graduate from University... thinking about getting a Model S...

Frankly, I wouldn't recommend it. Otherwise in the eyes of other people (that includes your boss or *decent* girl) you'll...

    Audio/Accessories installers around Seattle/Bellevue

Hello all Had anyone electrical work done on their Model S? I am looking for parking sensors install, radar detector wiring and audio upgrade. Wiki Model S Delivery Update

Last time i checked there was no 160gb iPhone. But there is iPod classic. My music collection is over 300gb. Besides it is much more convenient to have permanently attached device rather than connect and disconnect iPhone all the time.
