    2020.12.5

This may be a silly question and sorry if it was answered already in this thread, but I'm still on 2020.8.3 and it says I'm up to date as of yesterday. I have a 2020 Model 3 Standard Range. Is there any way to push the update my way? Also, as I just got the car last month and with the...

Good advice, is this something I can do? Thanks everyone

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Wait you use your LEFT foot when driving?! Are you left handed? I could never imagine having the coordination in my left foot to drive as well as my right. Are you a two-foot driver all the time?

So the COVID-19 is causing delays?

Just picked mine up yesterday, arrived a few days BEFORE my original delivery date. There were about 3 or 4 others picking up 3s/Ss while I was there, and they just got their first Y this week. Seems ok for orders already placed.

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

That's what I was thinking. I put a down payment down but had to finance a part of it. I signed off work early, hopped over to the credit union to close the loan, get the check, picked up my sister so she could drive my old car home, then went straight to Tesla to pick it up. All in about an...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Haha yes we had max 6 of us together and no touching! Well, some did get in and out of the car but what can ya do. Havent tried Lysol on the door handles - think it would harm inner/outer door handles?

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Yup! Went to the in laws and drove them around the block a few times. They are amazed at the tech but definitely not the type to buy one themselves. Cousin in law lives nearby and we drove to his place, he and his roommates came out to check it out and were super jealous. They wanted me to floor...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Delivery day! Cherry Hill service center called today and asked if I wanted to pick it up early! (Original date was 3/21). I was nervous with all the closures that if I didnt jump on it now I would be risking any breaking news between now and Saturday. So, I went for it! We drove to my in laws...

So the COVID-19 is causing delays?

I ordered 2/29 and my delivery was set for this Saturday the 21st, in Cherry Hill NJ. Last communication I had with the delivery liaison said we were still on for 3/21 and that they'd keep me updated if that changes. However, a lot has changed since then and I haven't heard back from the...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

USAA is for military and families. I didn't serve, but my mother (and father-in-law) did so I got in through her. If you or an immediate family member is currently in or has served, you might be eligible.

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

I've been with USAA for years. They offer quite a few discounts, too (new car discount, auto-home bundle discount, safe driving discount, etc.) I've heard Progressive has competitive rates, if you haven't checked them out yet. Are you in NJ? Could also be a difference state vs state.

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Yup, definitely applying for that when I can. They're still working it out but vehicles purchased after 1/17/2020 can apply for the rebate come July. After July it's taken off at purchase. So awesome. Thanks for the reminder about time of use. I looked into it and am not sure I'm ready to...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

It has been a bit since I posted in this thread but I got my delivery date! 3/21/2020. Husband is much more excited about it now. I'm going on a trip in mid-April with my family, so I jokingly told him "Don't drive my Tesla when I'm gone!" He is absolutely going to drive it while I'm gone. I...

Suddenly there is rear heated seat

You can pay for an upgrade to get the range of the SR+, which is ~20 more miles. It's the same battery, but is a software limitation. At least, according to my Tesla Associate who helped me purchase a basic model 3 over the weekend. You would not be able to get the LR range, as it is a different...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Honestly, I just told him about some of the easter eggs - he LOVES the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy one, and almost wants us to fork up the extra $$$ for autopilot for the Rainbow Road feature alone.

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

I thought I was on time use but right after I posted I checked my bill and it looks to be flat rate regardless of time of day, but increases after 600kWh. I mistook the >600 increase as peak vs off peak. So I guess it doesn't really matter. I source my electricity from a third party that gets...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Yes, I hope to charge at home during off-peak hours, which would be after 9pm. I still need to research some more on whether it costs more for higher volt/less time vs lower volt/more time, that I'm not too sure of.

The front license plate question.... (poll)

Any NJ folks with experience here? Waiting on delivery but I'm not sure what to do regarding the front license plate. I'd rather not drill holes or use sticky-anything but would like to avoid a ticket. What if I keep a plate in the glovebox and put it up on my dash in the event of being pulled...

Vanished Android Tesla App? [Update: app is in the Google Play store]

THANK YOU! The direct link is the only thing that worked for me after trying a few other separate links. Interesting that this is still happening March 2020 when this thread has been quiet since December. I have a Galaxy Edge S8 - is my phone that old?!

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Yes, it should! As soon as I realized I wanted one, I immediately adjusted my direct deposit accounts, combined our joint savings, joined this forum and multiple FB groups, and we spent a whole day yesterday cleaning and clearing our basement to make it easy for the electrician to install and...

SR/SR+ (Model 3 RWD) Waiting Room

Ordered today. SR blue with black interior, no autopilot. Associate said to expect it before the end of March!
  22. ellienovember

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Yep, that's what the associate said. I actually ordered it as the SR+ and they just have to make an adjustment to the software which they said they'll just do in transit. So the option will be there if I want to, like adding autopilot if/when I want. Just checked my email, can't wait!

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

M3 standard range, no autopilot, went blue with black interior. May upgrade to the SP+ if I find the need for extra mileage but I doubt I would based on my current usage. With the timing of the order they said most likely before end of March for delivery, possibly even earlier. So much sooner...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Awesome, I just joined that fb group yesterday! Kudos to buying it without driving it, I was halfway sold before I test drove it but the test drive totally sold me. I basically live in Cherry Hill so I'd hope to be at some meetups one day!

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Sorry to answer multiquotes at once but the reason this would happen is I volunteer at a summer camp for kids with cancer (I had cancer as a child and this camp gave me a childhood) and I drive about 30 minutes from home to the campground, park my car and never touch it until it's time to leave...
  27. ellienovember

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Also - while this thread is still so active - question for everyone: The M3 doesn't lose battery for non-use, does it? Say I park it with 50% charge on a Saturday, would I still be good the following Saturday to drive it home? This would only be a once a year occurence, definitely not often.

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Good to know. I thought I was sold on the black but I might be more open to others. Not a red fan, or a white, but grey or blue are possibilities. I've personally not seen the blue in real life though - seems like it would be a little flashy, like turn-heads noticeable?

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

That definitely has been my experience so far, which is partially what prompted me to make this thread. I really didn't think I'd need to convince my husband to get on board with this, so out of shock I was desperate for some advice from what I'd assume would be a heavily male audience. He has...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Yup! Right around the corner from a service center actually so when needed it shouldn't be too much of a hassle. I definitely don't expect that kind of experience. We are probably among the modest of Tesla owners, never having owned luxury vehicles before nor had the kind of dealer experience...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Appreciate your concern, but he's not really that kind of grudge-holder or nitpicker. Having such older cars anyway, and nothing really to compare this tech to, I don't see most of those being an issue. Not for a few years, at least.

Thanks, this is awesome advice! We're going to aim for getting a 240v outlet with the 14-50. Good to know about the adapter, that can be ordered ahead of time right? Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

It's a go! I'll be ordering before end of March! Still need to get the outlet set up for charging, get his '95 Ford Ranger out of the driveway, and see if I have any mechanically-inclined friends that would want to take the Eclipse off my hands once its delivered.

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Being born and raised in Jersey, I may have driven the turnpike about 10 times in my life. I prefer the non-toll alternatives. But I've heard NJ also offers discount toll rates on EZ Pass with an EV on the Turnpike and Parkway, so perhaps I might not try so hard to avoid it anymore. I wish it...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Well I'm definitely not leaving him due to a lack of Tesla understanding, haha. Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Cannot wait! We do about 1-3 trips per year. Which I know we'll have to plan out a bit in terms of finding charging along the way, but I'm not too worried about it since most of our trips are along the East coast anyway with plenty of available stops along the way. Safety is definitely a key...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

That's definitely something I want the both of us to do once we physically have the car. Take it to a lot or empty area and test out everything. One test drive was enough to get me hooked, but definitely not enough to get used to everything. I can't wait for the TeslaCam (and the reverse...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

He hasn't talked with her yet but I have made the comparison multiple times, how when we visit their car is usually plugged in just to a regular outlet, how they commute mostly only on the charge and rarely use the reserve gas, how quiet it is when it starts and moves, etc. He'd definitely be...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

He loves his manual transmission trucks. He'll drive my automatic sometimes, but much prefers manual shifting. Changing speed and not having to physically shift gears, or feel/hear the change like in my car, is again, something that he will just have to get used to. I find it odd he feels it...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

I think that's a very big part of it. He thinks he, or he and his dad, can fix anything. And granted, they have fixed a lot on my ICE after a few quick youtube videos. And there's probably not a single gas-powered tool his dad hasn't fixed or tried to fix. I think there's a stubborn part of him...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

I agree. I know I can save some money on a different EV. But I just don't see another reason other than saving a few k, which isn't that big of a deal to me. 150 miles a day is a lot. I'd barely be putting 150 miles in a week. I've also posted in another thread here about getting my work on...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

I will definitely use the RC car analogy. He also loves those flying drone toys. And I'm sure we're not alone in the "oh sh*t, I have to get gas" realization when we hop into the car ready to be somewhere on time, only to have to stop for gas first. That alone is a huge seller for me, and...

Advice Needed: Convincing Husband to Go Tesla

Thank you for this testimony! You and your wife sound very similar to my husband and I, roles reversed. Especially with how complicated getting my ICE vehicle fixed has been. The no sales tax and the $5k incentives are my no-brainers for an EV. He's more open to other EV's as his sister bought a Volt a few years ago. Future owner. Charging question.

Future owner. Another few charging questions I hope owners won't mind offering their advice on. I only drive ~15m a day during the week and a bit more over the weekend. I've read around this forum and others and still not 100% sure about how often and when I should home charge. Should I still...
