Why no Automatic Rear Heated Seats?

It makes no sense that auto isn't an option for the rear. They definitely know if someone is sitting there because the "no seatbelt" icon will only show up if a person is there without latching the belt. It is annoying to open the menu and turn the heater on for my kids every day all winter...

    Phone Bluetooth quality suddenly awful

Whenever I get echoes I have to go into the car's audio settings menu (the equalizer) and turn on or off immersive sound. That 'fixes' it for a while and then it eventually comes back. I don't know why it happens, but that's what makes it go away.

Will Mobile Connector controller drag on ground when plugged into my NEMA-14-50 receptacle?

I bought a 50 amp range cord from home depot and wired that up to the wall connector so I could plug it in. As a bonus, wall mounting above the outlet solves your "ground pin upside down" issue. Just be sure to set the wall connector to max charge at 40 amps (80% of 50 amp outlet limit).

Spare tire options for Model 3

My thoughts are that if I was planning to depend on an untested wheel/tire combo to be my spare I'd want to try it out first rather than believe some people on the internet who say whether it "should" work. It's so easy to swap it yourself and drive it around the block, why not just try it?

    Rear passenger window exploded.

Was your rear window aftermarket tinted? Lots of issues with window tint and the rear heat strip causing broken windows. Don't know if it gets cut when they apply the tint or too much heat gets trapped or what. I just know I've seen threads about it here and/or on reddit in the past.

Going on first road trip (around 285 miles one way).. New owner.. Just a few questions. Thanks

ICE cars show a city/highway gas mileage. I think that EVs should list something similar for their range. I think it would help with all the "so much for the EPA rated range" posts. And help with the people who think it's some kind of gotcha that the car doesn't actually get the rated range...

Strange nose pimple appeared on my M3

Maybe the front was lightly hit and pushed back into a bolt head or other hard object under the bumper cover to pop out the plastic and crack the paint.
  8. nstig8

Anyone have info on if the Corded Charger will come back?

I'm not too concerned since Tesla used to sell the wall connector with the cord on it just like mine. The only reason the new one says not to is because you can set it up to 48 amp charging which is too much for a 14-50 outlet. Obviously I didn't do that.

Wheel and Tire Config After Rotate?

My guess would be that this forces the TPMS sensors to reinitialize at their new positions.

I think I have the wrong Tesla and I kinda hate it, lol

The problem is that those are "go directly to jail" speeds in my state (Virginia) so that's mostly useless to me. I have a wife and two kids, can't be driving around like an idiot anymore. I'll take the M3P 0-60 and cash in the bank all day. When I test drove the Model S it felt so big like I...

Model 3 spare tire options? (Not modern spare)

I have a tool bag with a plug kit, air compressor, jack and lug nut wrench in the frunk. That is enough to handle every flat I've had in my lifetime. Some people on this forum seem to have an affinity for curbs so they may get sidewall damage where this solution would be insufficient. In that...

    How to use jack stands?

Maybe you live somewhere that never gets below 40° and don't ever plan on taking your M3P to any of those places, but many of us have a real winter and put winter tires on the car so twice a year I have it jacked up to swap wheels/tires. This is also when I rotate the tires. I assume you pay...

WIFI says unable to obtain IP address with Tesla Gen 3 wall connector

I lose all connection if I have only WPA3 enabled. However, if you connect via WPA2 and then get the latest firmware you should be able to reconnect with WPA2/WPA3 transitional mode. At least I can with my Ubiquiti network.

New 18 inch T sportsline rims on my 2021 model 3 performance https://youtu.be/K_eYo346mbU

I got the 19" Satin Gray version of those wheels to use with my winter rubber and they've been awesome. You should get some black lug nuts or at least the black plastic covers for your lugs next. Nice thorough video for anyone shopping around though. Wish I had that much info to go on a...

    Mid-Atlantic Superchargers (speculation, discussion)

Are you lost? The question posted to the "Mid-Atlantic Supercharger locations" subforum asked where in West Virginia, Maryland, Virginia, DC, Delaware and Pennsylvania people would like to see a supercharger. No one is demanding they are entitled to anything. Just answering the question...

    Mid-Atlantic Superchargers (speculation, discussion)

Emporia, VA. It's right where my family needs a meal/bathroom break when headed south from the DC area on I-95. There are a ton of restaurants there and it would be nice to get a charge while we eat.

    M3 Tire Sidewall

That tire was definitely driven on while flat. It is garbage and unsafe to drive on. There will be all kinds of rubber particles inside the tire when they dismount it from the wheel where the inside part of the sidewall disintegrated as it was driven on. That junk might damage your TPMS...

Anyone have info on if the Corded Charger will come back?

I bought the regular wall connector and wired it with a 50 amp range cord like this one so that I could plug it into my existing 14-50 outlet. This works best for my daily needs while leaving the outlet easily available for a 240v garage tool, or if I have any visitors with another EV type...

    330 Wh/mile av. over 20K miles. Isn’t it high?

My lifetime on a M3P is 297 Wh/mile. That's about 10k miles and includes 2 winters. Your numbers are definitely high, especially for the SR+.

FYI: My opinion is Model 3 > Model S

I was saying no one will notice you in either. There are probably 8 Model 3s, 10 Model Ys, and 4 Model Ss waiting in the soccer parking lot at drop off/pick up from practice every week. Teslas aren't special here - none of them. Absolutely no one cares if you drive a Model S, and certainly...

FYI: My opinion is Model 3 > Model S

Compromising on fun to get that "substantial" or luxury feel from the Model S just seems like a bad trade. I'm old now (40s), but I don't want to drive an old man car. To me it's the same thing as buying a minivan because you have kids. Yeah, it's going to be more comfortable but it's just...

    Picking Winter Wheels M3P

I'm conditioned that blue goes with gold wheels after ~18 years with my blue Subaru STi. Option 2 (or 3) for the win.

Is the Tesla Model 3 Performance actually better than the Tesla Model S Plaid?

The M3P is already too big and heavy, the Model S Plaid is a freaking boat. If I had to drive only one for free and didn't get any monetary benefit from selling it (like a company car or something) then I would choose the Model 3 all day long. It's just way more fun to drive.

Do I need permit for Tesla Wall Charger if I already installed a permitted 14-50 Outlet?

A 50 amp 4-prong dryer plug from home depot wired into the wall charger will let you plug it into your 14-50 outlet. No need to hire anyone. It's the same thing as plugging in anything else to that outlet.

How to get 22.41.1 new Wall Connector Firmware?

Yes, I only have the one SSID configured and the wall charger is connected. I can hit the undocumented API endpoints in addition to the regular landing page. Ex: http://192.168.1.210/api/1/wifi_status returns data. It also shows up as connected in my Unifi control panel Network tab with all...

Gen 3 Wall Charger WPA2/WPA3 compatibility Issue

I selected WPA3 and every wireless connection on my network dropped. I was able to get my phone (Pixel 7) to reconnect by forcing it to try reconnecting again. I couldn't get anything else to come back online, including the wall connector. I did power cycle it and all the APs but it never...

How to get 22.41.1 new Wall Connector Firmware?

I just updated my Unifi network tonight to WPA2/WPA3 and my wall connector is still reachable. It is on firmware 22.41.2. It does take a long while to come back with the page with just the Part Number and Serial Number, but it eventually comes back. It works in an incognito browser too so it...

    Snow Chains M3P

I saw this video just yesterday testing snow socks vs snow chains and they came out very favorably. I'd consider that option as well, especially if just for some planned trips and not general winter driving. I don't have personal experience with them though.

Android 13 update phone key not working

My Pixel 4a did it as soon as I upgraded to Android 13. My Pixel 7 I just got yesterday has already done it. I'm afraid we'll have to wait on Google for a fix for this one, and not sure how high on the priority list a mild inconvenience for some random Tesla owners will be.

Android 13 update phone key not working

It is not yet fixed. However, you won't be locked out of your car. You just have to either turn bluetooth off and on again OR hold the phone up to the door pillar sensor where the credit card key would go. Both work, but if you use the second option your walk away automatic lock won't work...

Auto lock not working when walking away?

I've been having the bluetooth randomly disconnecting issue ever since upgrading my phone to Android 13. It's super annoying walking up to the car and it not unlocking, or when I get in to drive in my own garage and it won't go into reverse. I also have the walkaway lock problem if it...

Full sized spare tire for Model 3?

Up and at an angle like that does seem the safest way and the most space efficient. If modern spare (or someone else) came up with a nice way to secure the wheel like that I'm sure it would sell well. A metal anchor that bolts to the upper wall/trunk deck on either side and a couple short...

Full sized spare tire for Model 3?

Here are some pictures from someone whose Model 3 was rear-ended by a Chevy Equinox. Where do you think a full size spare sitting in the trunk would end up when a taller SUV/truck hits you above the bumper like this? Again, my kids ride in the back seat. I'm not putting a spare in a position...

$3500 price difference for Model 3 Long Range AWD vs Performance. Which one should I go with?

$1,500 is such a small difference in price between Performance and LR with boost. You'll get at least $1,500 more for a Performance over an equivalent LR when you sell/trade it in so it's basically a free upgrade.
  37. nstig8

Full sized spare tire for Model 3?

Cars can get in crashes at greater than 30 mph though. I usually have kids in my back seat so I'd rather not take any risks with a heavy unsecured spare tire (or two 40 lb blocks, or 60 lbs of soup/rocks/whatever) in the trunk. Every factory spare tire has some type of screw on anchor bolting...

Full sized spare tire for Model 3?

This topic seems to come up once a year. I'm going to link you my post warning people about what happens when 60+ pounds of unsecured load comes barreling at you in a car accident unphased by the weak little back seat latch. Find a way to secure the spare if you can.
  39. nstig8

Has Anyone lifted their model 3?

I believe the Y has a higher seating position (~1 inch) with the exact same seats due to a spacer or something where they mount to the floor. That alone could make it easier to get in and out of without all the other expenses mentioned here.

Full Size Spare Tire - everything I learned after 3 months of research

I don't make the laws of physics, but obviously you can do whatever you want. The fact that there are federal standards for spare tires being bolted down and tested to remain securely attached during crashes tells me that yes, it is a problem and people who know more than I do about it have...

Full Size Spare Tire - everything I learned after 3 months of research

Again, this is very dangerous! Something that heavy needs to be bolted down or else it will kill you in a collision. The backseat latch will not save you from a wheel & tire moving at 65 mph. At least run a cargo strap through it and secure that to the trunk wall or floor.
  42. nstig8

Full Size Spare Tire - everything I learned after 3 months of research

Haven't you ever noticed that factory spares are bolted down? I would never leave something as heavy as a spare tire in the trunk unsecured (or "secured" with velcro). You are just asking for the backseat passengers to get their backs destroyed in a collision. If there isn't anyone back there...

wall charger $400 vs. NEMA installation

I went with a 14-50 outlet and then bought a wall connector and a 50 amp electric oven whip from home depot so I could just plug it in. I set the charger to 40 amp max. Now I have the option of letting visitors charge if they have a non-Tesla, or using my mobile connector as a back up if...

    Charging in Apartment Garage

If you saw the fuel tank for the mower next to the maintenance shed would you pour some gasoline from it into your old car? Of course not. Then why is it so many people think it's perfectly okay to plug into a community outlet and charge their car at everyone else's expense? If it isn't...

Going from 20" Uberturbines to 19's

I have these same 19" TS5 wheels with my winter tires on them. If you go into the car's settings under one of the menus (Service maybe?) you can select the Zero G wheels to change the car's picture to match your new wheels. This results in a reboot to update the car's odometer / speedometer...

Does an external dash cam work well with the Model 3?

I followed along with this video to install my (front part only) dashcam. It is plugged into one of the USB ports inside the console (via USB A to C adapter). It has been there a few months and no issues. Like everyone else said, it records until the car goes to sleep.

Are you planning to own post-warranty?

Had my last car 18 years (Subaru WRX STi). I expect this one will be a little less than that, but no plans to get rid of it based on warranty. Pretty much in 10ish more years I won't have to haul kids around anymore so I will get something a little more fun. I'll be whatever the future...

    Dash Cam Unavailable

I'm also getting this message every couple days now too. The only fix is to unplug and reinsert the USB, but it soon fails again. Of course you won't notice it isn't working until you get a sentry alert that didn't actually save anything. I'm glad to hear it isn't just me. EDIT: The Model Y...

Long Range AWD Wheel Offset with Wider Wheels

Tesla 100% chose the option that let them advertise the most range. Many of us would make a different selection for better performance given the choice, and instead have done so in the aftermarket.

Worth buying an M3P at this point?

If those (or any) 2 door coupes were in my possible choices then I don't see how any 4 door car is in consideration. Buying a 2 door says you are looking for fun above all else and not concerned about practicality at all for a new car. In that case I'd be looking at the ones you mentioned plus...
