Any other Y owners put a deposit on a Lyriq?

Just like I put $100 down on my Y on somewhat of a whim, I've now done the same on a Lyriq AWD. Assuming Cadillac can deliver on the promise next year, it offers an awful lot of car for the money. While the size is more comparable to a Y, the features are more on par with an S or X and even...

Family of 4 — used MX or new MY

My kids are 15 and 13 and we also have a ~30 pound dog. I was worried the Y would not be big enough for road trips, but I was wrong. I’m only 6 feet, but crank the seat back and there is still tons of leg room behind me. More than our Range Rover Sport which is decent. The glass roof has plenty...

1k Roadtrip with MY - looks like my car was sandblasted.

Ahhh - that makes sense. Up here in WA most Seattleites head up to the Cascades, so mudflaps and Rear door PPF are pretty much a must.

1k Roadtrip with MY - looks like my car was sandblasted.

Sounds like yours got missed in prep as well. Did you ever ask or did you just install? I was told by a Tesla rep shortly after pickup that all new Model Ys were going to have both front flaps and rear PPF installed 🤷‍♂️

Stopped Roof Rack Noise & Whistle

Doesn’t that strip now limit your ability to add attachments? Seems like it solved a design flaw and created other issues. I continue to feel better about purchasing the OEM rack. Sometimes saving a few $ is just not worth the hassle.

1k Roadtrip with MY - looks like my car was sandblasted.

I’m guessing you have a 2020 or very early 2021. My 2021 (picked up in Aug) had mudflaps installed and was supposed to have PPF which Tesla installed for free when they discovered it was missed in prep.

May have used the cruise control and auto wipers for the last time...

I just want to state before my rant that the MY is a great car and one of my faves despite being an ICE fan from my days growing up in Michigan. But the cruise control and auto wipers are just rubbish. I keep thinking Tesla will improve the wipers and phantom braking through updates and keep...

Full matrix headlight functionality just approved by NHTSA!

Maybe save in absolute $, but at only $5K premium, the P is a screaming bargain. You can easily spend $5K on the wheels, accel boost, and spoiler, yet the P offers so much more. Even though the P was closer to $10K premium when I bought, I would have pulled the trigger knowing what I know now...

Full matrix headlight functionality just approved by NHTSA!

While there are a lot of benefits for sure, a 21” tire with larger contact patch and shorter/stiffer sidewall will ALWAYS handle better than the same tire in 19” or 20”.

My 2015 Range Rover Sport auto high beams are excellent. As in notably superior to my 2021 MY.

Replacing 50 amp breaker with 60 amp?

I was obsessed with getting max charging at our cabin and considered rewiring for 60 amp, but have literally only wished for faster charging once or twice. My current setup is 50 amp breaker and I charge at 42 amps which is good for 37 mph, so plenty of charge in 4+ hours (plus Supercharger 20...

I test drove Hyundai Ioniq 5 SEL RWD (short review)

I had to laugh a bit at the “not paying above MSRP” comments when anyone who bought a Model Y in the past year effectively paid above MSRP with the price hikes 😂

Model Y - Just OK cold weather car

Totally agree. The heated front windshield on various Land and Range Rovers is under appreciated. It’s honestly one of my favorite features on that truck 👍

Model Y - Just OK cold weather car

I only did this at our cabin trying to warm it up while loading. The trick is to warm it up a good 10-15 minutes before doing anything. Trying to both warm and load at the same time requires selecting the “Keep Climate On” mode vs. being the default. At least there is a solution here 👍

Model Y - Just OK cold weather car

The defroster has good power, but doesn’t seem to heat the wipers in the fully down position. I did not need them much heading up the pass until I got behind some cars near the top. Went to use and they were completely frozen despite the defroster being on the whole time.

Model Y - Just OK cold weather car

I tried leaving the phone in the car, but it still turned defrosters off and fan down. Did not know about the “keep on” setting. Just wish this was the default unless a door is left open for several minutes.

Model Y - Just OK cold weather car

Recent snow in Seattle and a trip into the Cascades has left me feeling “meh” about the Model Y as a legit winter car. For context, I grew up in Michigan (5 years in the U.P.) and lived/skied in Colorado for 7+ years, so plenty of snow driving. My other car is a Range Rover Sport, and the Model...

First 24hrs with my Model Y Performance (spoiler: full motor failure)

Thought this was an interesting comment: "I don't need the all out performance of something like an X3M or GLC63 since I've got other cars. I wanted this to be a stark contrast to my current 2 vehicles." When you say "all out performance", how are you defining this? Something beyond...

    Lane Departure Warning Always On

Sadly this feature needs a lot of work. The amount of "noise" it creates because it estimates where the traffic lines are is beyond annoying. I ended up turning off alerts. Probably worse than the "rain sensing" wipers which is a very low bar.

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

I was driving and not able to take a pic, but saw a green Rivian truck on I-75 in Michigan heading north between Flint and Saginaw last Monday 11/29. I thought for sure it would have a manufacturer plate, but didn't appear to be one when I passed.

$1,000 to powdercoat a set of wheels?

Hard to disagree as this would be the easier route, especially if you don’t need true winter tires. Getting to this point with used Ubers for a good price, powder coat Gemini’s, buy/mount winters, sell all-seasons, etc. was some work and a bit pricey ($2,800 total), but I do like having 2 full...

I think it was slate gray. Not quite as dark as the Ubers, but pretty close. The finish was perfect though. One of the rims had slight curbage and I couldn’t tell which one it was. The quality of the job is outstanding.

came back and 80% of my battery had vanished.. help please?

Had to be sentry. If you left sentry on in a busy garage with constant motion, I could see it using a decent amount of juice. Especially if you had that AND the heater going.

    MY Front Window Tint Only

To the OP, that price is about right. I paid $175 for the fronts here in Seattle. I did end up going 18% to match rears from outside. 25% will definitely look lighter than the rears from outside unless you also tint the windshield. You would need to go even a bit darker if you have white...

$1,000 to powdercoat a set of wheels?

I ended up getting the wheels powder coated at Seattle Powder Coat in Ballard and am using Discount for tire removal/remount/balance. I'll be a bit over $700 when all is said and done after tax. I would say anything under $800 is worth it if you can do a simple drop off and pick up. I just...

Rear cover offered in Hong Kong oem

I'm sure there are some reasons to get one, but if I am hauling big items, I am usually going from A to B vs. road tripping. For 99% of the stuff I leave in the car, it's easy to put in frunk or below rear hatch to get out of sight. If you road trip a lot in your Y, go for it.

Have any US made Model Y's started shipping with the upgraded interior door trim?

<<I wish Tesla would liven up the interior in general though>> Amen to that. In addition to the dash and displays needing some serious love, Tesla's faux leather is the worst. Feels like something I would expect on a Sentra or Corolla. My 2013 3 Series and my parent's GLE and GLC all had WAY...

Have any US made Model Y's started shipping with the upgraded interior door trim?

I actually think the wood adds some much needed contrast to the black interior where carbon fiber would just blend in, but realize this is super subjective. I personally don't think the door inserts look that great. The photos I've seen have a ton of alignment issues. My attitude would be...

Rear cover offered in Hong Kong oem

I honestly don't see the point for this car. For sport utes with no hidden storage, sure. But there is so much storage underneath and in the frunk that I have yet to have an issue trying to get things out of sight. I suppose if you are going to use your Tesla to store big stuff a lot, then maybe.

    Model Y P vs Rivian R1S

For me it's an "and" vs. an "or". The Model Y is here and now and real, can do a ton of things really well, but can't truly replace the utility of my Range Rover Sport. I love the utility of the Rivian, but it is almost vaporware right now.
