    Tesla ignoring older cars!

Nico - How did you get LTE, and for life? My MS P85 was ordered in Jan '14 and delivered end of Feb '14. Have 3G which is struggling. Should I be asking for an upgrade?

Possibly a dislike that you had to cancel, but just in case i threw a like in there to offset cause i think its great what you are doing! I when date/time decided I will try to make it.

    Supercharger - Rockaway NJ

A couple years ago I was on the Grand Opening invite list for the Norfolk, VA supercharger. Day before the event got an email saying event was cancelled due to a construction incident. Tragically an electrician, testing or whatever - no one knows, somehow got electrocuted. Really sad. But point...

    Finding "hidden" Supercharger location

A bit of advice to the newbies - if you think its going to be close in terms of making it to a charger - SLOW DOWN! The range is calculated at highway speeds so at 45-50 you have greater range than shown and less wind resistance. On the S, possibly same on the 3, there is a range setting which...

Just left the Dedham MA SC - People were loosing their *$@t

Ahh - saying goodbye to the good old days...when you left a card with your cell number on the dash when charging in case you were done and not back from wherever and someone needed to charge. Or you nodded, waved or flashed the hi-beams at another S. Or always having a convo with the other...

Got my Model 3 in ONE DAY

Congratulations for joining the club - and for your Joie de vivre. May we all be like you at 83!! Ignore the nit-picking - its a totally cool vehicle. Just make sure you get your acceleration kick every once in a while!!

Driving on the sand? Ocean Shores

Really dude???? And 21" wheels with low-profile tires?? Swan Beach - 4 x 4 territory on the very north end of the Outer Banks in North Carolina. BTW - Signs all over saying don't try this even with AWD and then lower tire pressure to 20lbs. That was one expensive tow - the local tow operators...

Hill Control Lies! Rolled back and hit a car :(

When I got my MS in early '14, I found out quickly that the car rolled backwards when stopped at a light on a hill. Having learned to drive on a manual transmission and for many years afterwards, I knew how to feed the clutch with left foot and accelerate with minimal rollback and not relying...

    Supercharger - Norfolk, VA

Make it 3. No issues charging here, albeit not at 2:00AM like I've charged elsewhere. The SC has good visibility and the retail/food offerings are decent.

Be honest: is SCing on a long trip annoying?

I have been making a 425 mi run from northern NJ to the Outer Banks in NC about every other month. Depending upon weather (heat uses a lot more power than A/C) and speed, I can usually make only one SC stop. That's 4 hrs on each side of the charge stop. Terrain can matter as well - it's pretty...

Rusting of the rear lift gate attachment points

I live in Jersey too and the road departments seem to spread salt at the hint of a snow dusting. Looks like you might have some accumulations of salt. Make sure you wash and wipe down under the hood and rear hatch frequently in winter.

What do you do for work? Just passing time waiting for updates from Tesla :)

Hey LVL (laminated veneer lumber) is great stuff. Just discovered what it was after a contractor on a Habitat for Humanity project I'm working on substituted LSL (laminated strand lumber) for LVL. Building inspector not happy and architect had to scramble with calcs but it all worked out...

Swapping wheels: 1 or 2 jack stands?

That is the weight of the vehicle fully loaded. The curb weight is around 4,760 lbs. Remember the jack is lifting half the weight if you are doing a two wheels lift, however a 3 to 3-1/2 ton jack is plenty, provided it is low-profile.

    Hello from Morris County, NJ

After a year and a half with no front plate, I recently got stopped by a State Trooper on I80. He was pretty cool about it when I was truthful and I told him the car looked better without it. Did get a written warning though. I installed plate below nose cone with black zip ties and some 1/2"...

Gas car parked at a Supercharger

Contact the owner of the shopping center - Steve Craig. Located in Newport Beach, CA. Send a nice note or phone call. He is a very customer-oriented, hands-on owner. I would be surprised if he or his folks don't deal with the issue. It will go back to the local GM at the center to handle, but...

    ISO jack recommendations

One thing you might want to add is a length of pipe that can slip over the lug wrench. At 125 ft.lbs of torque, those bolts could be hard to get off, or properly snugged.

Finally. Can make the NNJ - OBX run this winter with the heat blasting and no range anxiety. Still - deepest sympathies to the Weaver family.

    Supercharger - Norfolk, VA

Good research! OSHA has up to 6 months to issue a citation and penalty if in fact there was a labor safety deficiency. With hundreds of SC's operating today, there's not likely to be a concern with the technology or fabrication of the station. Seems to me the utility would be quite concerned...

Things you may not have discovered about your Model S?!

I'm fairly certain that when the software was updated to enable Hill Assist it said the parking brake would be applied for about 1 second after brakes were released. It makes sense because parking brake is an additional caliper on the brake rotor that is activated only electronically when...

    Speed Traps in Mid-Atlantic Region

+1 , it's brilliant. Anyone driving the eastern shore route (1/13 to 168/158) to the OBX, even in the off season needs to be really careful. All these podunk, one stop light towns, especially in MD & VA have speed limits that drop from 55 to 35 in a heartbeat. And the cops sit waiting. I...

    Supercharger - Norfolk, VA

This is great news!! Makes the run from NNJ to the OBX along the eastern shore without worrying about how much energy full heat or A/C will do to range. Planning to stop by the Grand Opening on way home, unfortunately in an ICE mobile. But at least I have a Tesla T-shirt with me!

Had biz dinner at Seasons 52 tonight. Only 1 MS when I arrived in 8 stalls. Didn't think to put my mobile # on dash since it was so empty. When I left restaurant - all stalls full. So my apologies if anyone wanted to charge. But on the bright side - a bunch of P85D's. Looks like it should be a...

    Robert Kraft's Ride

Check out the last few moments of the video... http://www.tmz.com/2015/05/21/robert-kraft-deflategate-punishment-no-appeal-video/ So maybe that's the key to hooking up with someone nearly 40 years younger...or is it the billion dollars? Owning the NE Pats? Nah - it's the MS! Smart guy.

    Supercharger - Norfolk, VA

This is a great location for anyone heading to VB or OBX from points north. The eastern shore route is so much better than taking I95, especially in the DC area. From the Salisbury SC you're starting to stretch range, especially in temperature extremes. Just need to watch the speed traps in...

Any plans for Superchargers in Richmond VA or Norfolk VA?

Not a rumor re: Outlet. Here's the location off Simon Premium Outlet's website. Says it's opening Fall 2015: I-64 and Hwy. 13 (Northampton Boulevard Exit) in Norfolk, Virginia - LakeWright Golf Course next to Norfolk International Airport. Simon has SC's in other centers - logical to add to...

Drive Unit failure symptoms and thresholds for replacement

I just had the MS in for one year service at 15k miles. SC replaced the DU ("proactive replacement") with a rebuilt unit. I was getting a clunk in stop and go driving. Now there's a buzzing/whine on acceleration that goes away as speed increases. That's new and I'm keeping an ear on it. Still my...

Why Consumer Reports Bought a Tesla Model S P85D

Not sure it wasn't more fully charged. if you see the Energy Consumption screen where it shows 40 miles of range - they had been hammering the car plenty before that clip was taken. My guess is that was a filler shot - this is a pretty slickly produced video. But damn I want one...

    Lug nut socket size

If you don't have one, I would suggest getting a torque wrench for these lugs - 125 ft lbs is a lot of force to muscle accurately. I got a 50 - 250 ft lb on line for like $60. Bigger is better - makes it easier.

What's your 6.0+ car name (if you are willing to share?)

Suggestion from my pubescent son - "Testes" and he suggested I also get the P85D so I would "have a pair". Seriously - what's happened to the Common Core??? However I did think it was hilarious and apropos.

BMW Airbag Recall - Or How the Dealer Service Rep Tried to Scam Us

Interesting Reddit Topic: Honest talk time, what's the worst thing about the Model S?

My understanding is that the speed control & turn signal stalks were procured from Mercedes. it is very similar to the one in my E500. Took a while to get used to it but once I did, I found it very intuitive and easy to use. Occasionally I still try to signal turns with the cruise control but...

Any plans for Superchargers in Richmond VA or Norfolk VA?

Thanks JQ. It's 210 miles from Salisbury to Duck I and would need to full range charge. Concern is running the a/c although at night energy demand (and traffic) would be less. And in the winter, even using seat heaters primarily, range seems to drop by at least 15%, if not more. All the crap...

Any plans for Superchargers in Richmond VA or Norfolk VA?

Any updates on a Norfolk, VA SC? With Wilmington, DE and Salisbury, MD SC's open, a Norfolk SC is the last link for a NNJ to OBX run (I95 to Rtes 1 /13 to 158) down the eastern shore that many folks up here use to avoid the DC area of I95.

how to clean INSIDE of windshield?

I've used a 6" high quality squeegee and ammonia free glass cleaner for years on all my cars. Can use a 12" squeegee on the outside. Throw a towel over the top of the dash, go over it twice and use a microfiber towel for the edges. I figure those guys hanging on a scaffold 100 stories up must...
