Buy EV in another state with No Sales Tax?

In NY, I believe it's the same. I didn't pay SC sales tax on a camper purchase on a camper titled in SC because it's based on state of residence. Unless it's CA, in which case pay up no matter what.

    .99% APR Financing Promotion (May 10 - May 31 2024)

Well, Tesla has my down payment and I've signed and returned the DMV paperwork. But no car yet. Sounds like my financing taking over a month to go through is working in my favor for now. It finally got approved in late June, so I've got time. That said, based on this experience this will be...

Is it worth to buy a CSS adapter now?

I'd get the adapter. Having more charging options is always good. Say there's a rush on a Supercharger site but the EA site a mile away is empty. That's time/hassle saved even if the EA site charges slower. In my area there are several places I camp that have CCS chargers but no Superchargers...

185 Teslas flooded last week in Miami and the battery replacement is $20,000!! Help please

Check the consumer protection laws. A lot of states let people sign a waiver to release the shop from liability. Kind of similar to a hospital having people sign a waiver if they discharge themselves contrary to medical advice. That changes if there is a state required inspection the car has...

    .99% APR Financing Promotion (May 10 - May 31 2024)

Just happened to me. Unfortunately I'll be on vacation during their newly scheduled date and cannot change that. It's their issue to come up with a mutually agreeable time. Which was the original time that had been in place for days. I also live over 100 miles away from the nearest delivery...

Day 2 of 2024 Model S Plaid ownership... 12v failure

Electronics can and do suffer "infant mortality". Had this happen with one of my electric RC planes where the electronic speed controller crapped the bed after a few high power flights. Crunch! While it is unfortunate, IMO it's better to have it happen now while still having fun than a much more...

Use trailer brake power for auxiliary power?

Disclaimer: I don't have my MY yet. This may well be apparent when I pick it up. With that said, what are thoughts on repurposing the brake power for auxiliary power on the 16v lithium battery MY's? If I recall, that is lower voltage. The reason for asking is my camper's brake controller...

    Charging at RV parks

I wonder how the state parks in my state (NY) are wired. I've seen a number of Teslas plugged in on extension cords on what are definitely 30 amp sites. My camper's power wasn't affected a few sites down. But there was a single car or two. Not a lot. We'll see!

    charging adapter

For a CCS to Tesla adapter to allow the use of non-Tesla DC fast chargers, be aware that a lot if not all the major fast charger companies explicitly note the CCS1 adapter "from Tesla" in their instructions. That gives them an out for any issues with their chargers if you can't demonstrate the...

    Charging below 50%

2024 MY LR AWD. I pick it up later this week. It'll be eventually charged on the Tesla wall connector once the electrician can make room in their schedule. For right now it'll be the mobile connector on 120v and fast charging/destination charging on longer trips. That will meet needs fine over...

    Charging below 50%

You all inspired me to open up ABRP to figure out what my typical use would entail. Seems like I'm fine only charging to 60% for my daily driving. That should leave a buffer for winter heating and summer cabin conditioning along with enough for a short spontaneous trip. The 100% charging will be...

    .99% APR Financing Promotion (May 10 - May 31 2024)

Back at the end of Q1 2024 we looked. The deals around us for inventory vehicles weren't comparable to this. Running some numbers, a roughly $6000 discount would have been needed to bring the total outlay and monthly payment in line. The MY "unicorn build" we ordered (blue, 7 seat, tow hitch)...

    .99% APR Financing Promotion (May 10 - May 31 2024)

The "End of Quarter" Waiting Room / Buying Guide

Back on topic. Still waiting. But Tesla is jacking around the financing. Ugh. No fun having to tell people the same thing over and over again.
  19. D

The "End of Quarter" Waiting Room / Buying Guide

That may well be the best reason. I can't help but think that Hertz getting publicly shafted on resale values did provide some influence to go with a financing deal rather than price cut though. Unless someone spills the beans we'll never know.
  20. D

The "End of Quarter" Waiting Room / Buying Guide

Hertz was quite public about how the price cuts made operating Tesla vehicles not economical for them by cratering residual values. Then we see interest rate subsidies compared to price cuts. Correlation doesn't mean causation but burning a potential customer isn't good business.

    .99% APR Financing Promotion (May 10 - May 31 2024)

Or, they're taking back the 72 month offer for the 60 month offer. I sure hope that's a mistake on their end and gets fixed.
  22. D

The "End of Quarter" Waiting Room / Buying Guide

I think the 0.99% APR last month was the discount. Tesla probably doesn't want to cut prices with incentives in order to keep resale values stable. Hertz is in the middle of selling their Teslas for fire-sale prices. I wouldn't be shocked if Tesla took note of this and decided to forego any...

The "End of Quarter" Waiting Room / Buying Guide

Someone stop me from buying all the Model Y accessories on AliExpress! To be fair, it's things like seat back protectors, lift pads and hopefully serviceable XPE frunk/subtrunk mats.

The "End of Quarter" Waiting Room / Buying Guide

I pick mine up next week. It took a while for the 0.99 financing to go through. But it ultimately resolved the way I'd hoped.

    .99% APR Financing Promotion (May 10 - May 31 2024)

To answer my own question: yes, since I ordered on May 20th I was able to get the 0.99% for 72 months. It did need some requests and an additional credit report pull. Worth it.
  26. D

    .99% APR Financing Promotion (May 10 - May 31 2024)

I ordered on May 20th when the 0.99% for 72 months was still available and have an order PDF with that date in the confirmation email. But my order fee wasn't charged until the 21st. For the financing offer that finally came, the only option is 60 months. Anyone else in the same position and...

    Charging at RV parks

Hmm. This is timely. My little camper doesn't need 50 amps. The most it draws is 9 amps running the AC, fridge and water pump all at once which rarely happens. Those sites are also typically in wide open areas, which I'm not a fan of. Shade is good at a campsite! So the sites I book are 120v 30...

I'm still waiting on a finance decision. It's been three weeks. My mortgage didn't take this long and that was for a lot more than a MY LR. 33. D

    .99% APR Financing Promotion (May 10 - May 31 2024)

Excellent point about double checking all the information that Tesla sends over for approval. Ducks, row, go. If Tesla really wants to sell me a car before the end of Q2, they'll make it happen. I'm trying to not get too emotionally invested. Finances first.
  34. D

    .99% APR Financing Promotion (May 10 - May 31 2024)

I'm figuring Tesla either get their ducks in a row or not. They have far more incentive to sell me a car at this moment in time than I do to buy one. The MYLR at that price ticked my boxes. That said I'm willing to walk away if Tesla can't hold up their end of the contract.

Falling out of love with my Model Y AWD - Sell or Keep

Life is too short to have regrets. If you can afford to take the financial depreciation hit, get something else. Those complaints can be addressed. Except for the slow fast charging. Tires, suspension, sound deadening and weather stripping. But if it doesn't work, it's even more regret.

Was provisionally approved for car on 5/30 was given vin and delivery window 6/8-6/17 but am confused about financing

I applied in mid-late May and have heard nothing back as of this post. The advisers are trying to hurry it along. Don't worry, they're apparently slammed. Agreed, Tesla probably wants to sell me a car more than I want to buy one. Don't worry about it right now.

Why you should skip the powered frunk and grab a Satonic soft close frunk

Bumping this. Those of you who installed the Satonic V2, would you recommend it? The feature seems useful. But living in an area with four seasons and road salt, failure isn't an option. FWIW, an AE seller shows an attempt at weatherproofing the cable on a Satonic style by glopping grease...

    Costly Memorial Day per Tesla

Two "new" doors, paint, blending in the new paint to existing, hanging the doors, aligning them, making sure the door electronics work and then all the shop overhead in a very high cost of living area. Plus PPF. Lots of labor and man-hours there. Most of the bill will be labor. Not shocked if...

I had no idea the efficient fell off a cliff when it's raining!

I track fuel mileage in my ICE car. A normal spring day at 62 mph gets 42 mpg or so. A headwind knocks that down to the upper 30's. Rain reduces fuel economy to the low to mid 30's. It's how the physics of it work. Rain needs more energy to move out of the way of the car.

    .99% APR Financing Promotion (May 10 - May 31 2024)

Ordered on May 20th. The app says I was assigned a VIN on the 23rd. Lies. It didn't show up until today, the 28th. Delivery date is supposedly today through June 5th. No word yet on financing. We'll see how long that takes. I'm betting the lenders are slammed with applicants. At the moment it's...

Refused Model Y delivery. What's next?

They're probably not responding since it's Memorial Day. And are the survivors of the recent downsizing so they're also taking a mental health day. No work today even if someone felt so inclined. It's frustrating, to be sure. That said, it's a black MYLR. Tesla will make more. Out of...

What mobile charger should I buy?

Thanks for the tax credit information! Turns out I'm not eligible. My rural listed neighbors down the road are eligible. After a quick search about GFCI breakers on NEMA 14-50 outlets, it's to keep people from getting hurt when the outlet lets out the magic smoke. Which it seems like a lot of...

Towing with the new 16v battery

Just spitballing here for small campers since I don't have my Y yet: There are 20 amp buck boost converters that have an input of 8-40 volts and put out either 12 or 13.8 volts. At a rated 93% efficiency that's 18.6 amps. 80% of 18.6 is 14.5, which is probably fine for continuous use with that...

What mobile charger should I buy?

The thing with the TWC is the warranty depends on a professional installation. Possibly from a Tesla certified installer, not entirely sure on that point. I got a quote for $1600 installed (don't forget about the 30% federal tax credit) from the Tesla certified company that installed my solar...

What mobile charger should I buy?

I ordered the Tesla mobile charger. No messing with anti-Karen rings on the car end for adapters. There's nothing stopping a Karen or Ken from flipping the breaker off or unplugging it but that's an issue for all mobile chargers.

    .99% APR Financing Promotion (May 10 - May 31 2024)

Ordered on May 20, the day before they changed the incentive on the 72 month loan. My take is somebody looked at how much that promo was costing them and decided to end it. If it'll make anyone feel better, file a complaint with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB). Their job is to...

    Hi, all!

Just popping into the intro area quickly to introduce myself. I'm a lifelong gearhead who's always wanted to be greener. Right now I have an order for a MY LR. Depending on how Tesla deals with things that may change. Great cars, but their constant jacking around incentives makes things hard...
