Lease return inspection - Tesla Finance, not US Bank - Autovin?

Just to circle back -- Tesla Finance told me that AutoVin was now mandatory. Guy came out and spent an hour inspecting the car. He refused (nicely) to give me any feedback during the inspection. Report was online the next day -- dinged me (legitimately) for curb rash on two wheels - $125 per...

    I-94 SC's - getting crowded with M3?

I travel from Chicago to Detroit regularly in my MS. I've hit all the SCs on I-94/96 (St. Joe, Marshall, Ann Arbor, Livonia). Historically, they are never full. The last few trips, however, I've noticed that traffic is really picking up with lots of M3s. I've been lucky and pulled in just...

Lease return inspection - Tesla Finance, not US Bank - Autovin?

Can you elaborate? It will help me to prepare - thanks

Lease return inspection - Tesla Finance, not US Bank - Autovin?

Thanks for the info. How did you determine that it was optional? AutoVin is saying its mandatory.
  5. D

Lease return inspection - Tesla Finance, not US Bank - Autovin?

Based on browsing the forum, it appears that US Bank uses Autovin for lease return inspections. Does Tesla Finance use Autovin - or does Tesla itself just inspect it at the Tesla center? And if it is inspected at the Tesla center, can you do a pre-inspection or they just inspect only on...

    Anyone interested 2015 Grey/Black 85D low miles?

How would this work? Do you buy from leasing company at 63,830 (including tax)? And then buyer buys from you? Or can buyer deal directly with leasing company?
  7. D

How much to offer for this 85D?

Target's post(s) on this issue are spot-on. His strategy is one I've used for years (although I won't buy a white car!) when buying/selling dozens of both ICE and Electric cars. I'll also note (and he may have already) that in many states you can save significantly on taxes via private party...

Lease Return Experiences - wear/tear? (Tesla Finance)

Thanks - is that based on experience or simply that you think they will use common-sense/be good guys?
  10. D

Lease Return Experiences - wear/tear? (Tesla Finance)

I'd be interested in hearing about people's experience in returning leased cars to Tesla (not US Bank but Tesla Finance). I've seen the Excess Wear and Tear Chart but some manufacturers are far more lenient than their published standards, particularly if you are leasing another car from them...

S85D -- Superbly Equipped, Stellar Condition ... and Updated Pricing

What is your 100% charge? Thanks
  12. D

    Fair Price for 85D

I'm not convinced that the dual chargers are necessary or even useful for many owners. I was bummed I didn't have dual but I haven't missed it -- I charge quick enough overnight in the garage at 20 and, as I understand it, superchargers bypass all this so no difference in SC rate with dual or not.
  13. D

    Fair Price for 85D

Subtracting the cost of the 4 year CPO warranty - call it 4500- it looks like you're at approximately 50% depreciation on a 3 year old car. That's pretty fair . Obviously, cosmetic damage can change that assessment depending on severity . But if it's just curbed wheels, I say it's a good deal...
  14. D

Pricing on CPOs - market status?

What do you mean by "losing money on lease returns?" Do you mean that the re-sale price is lower than the sum of residual value + costs of reselling? Or something else? I started this thread many pages ago and still haven't figured out the logic (if any) behind market/CPO pricing.
  15. D

    Lease transfer time?

Typically 3-4 weeks but if you're running into the 12 month bar they may expedite to as quickly as 10 days . This is assuming Tesla Finamce as I know nothing about US Bank. This also assumes both sides are hyper quick about providing info and turning the docs .

    Lease Takeover on a Model S 75D

I understood that Tesla Finance and USBank gave NO break on the lease payments (including no discount on future interest payments) . I agree that non-prepaid future taxes are likely excluded. My point on taxes is that, at least in my state, IL, you pay sales tax on the buyout price. So, future...

    Lease Takeover on a Model S 75D

Yep but I suspect that payoff value = remaining lease payments + residual + fees. And then, depending on which state you live in, you have to add taxes. Rarely a good deal unless lessee put down a huge down payment.
  18. D

    Lease Takeover on a Model S 75D

I suspect that you can prepay all remaining lease payments + residual + applicable taxes + any lease disposition fees and buy the car outright at any time during the lease. A financially questionable choice but doable.

    2016 Model X P90DL

I agree that I came on too strong and, for that, I apologize. Like I said, I have no idea whether this guy is on the level and I should not have suggested that possibility. Its still hard for me to imagine a car guy, who goes through a couple of Tesla's in a matter of months/a year, and who...

    2016 Model X P90DL

In now way is this beating a dead horse. One commendable purpose of forums such as TMC is to call out guys who come in with potential BS so that other members aren't deceived. While I can't be 100% sure that the OP is trying to BS people, I'm a bit concerned that he is trying to sell a Lemon...

    2016 Model X P90DL

The ESA is available for all used vehicles that meet the under 50K mile/4 year standard that have not had a third-party dealer in the chain of ownership. So, either your car was at some point owned by a third-party dealer, or Tesla won't give you the ESA because of the Lemon brand, or somebody...

Pricing on CPOs - market status?

No doubt - WE all agreed "that info was mis-informed or flat out just wrong. But the guy who claimed it happened never came back to tell us how it worked out with Tesla. As I said, I'm highly skeptical (hence my reference to the "alleged" incident) but absent a retraction from the guy, its...

Pricing on CPOs - market status?

I agree but see the alleged outlier incident in post #39 in this thread -- suggesting that a non-original owner in a chain of only private owners was denied ESA. I'm highly skeptical that this is an official reversion to old "original owner" policy but...... ESA - now eligible even with dealer...

    2016 Model X P90DL

Please let us know what Tesla says about ESA. And, as a PSA, lemon branded titles can be a great deal if (i) you know the reason for buyback; (ii) you inspect to obtain adequate assurance the issue has been repaired; (iii) you plan on driving the car forever (resale will be a hassle - see...

    2015 Tesla Model S | P85D | 5500 Miles | Metallic Grey Magnolia Hides

So, do the "next gen rear seats" in your car that is for sale fold down? If so, does the bolstering prevent them from folding as flat as the current rear seats fold?

ESA - now eligible even with dealer in chain of ownership?

Totally agreed - that is why my post says "r00xxr says.". And why my earlier posts expressed surprise at his rejection and called bs on the alleged new definition of "dealer.".
  29. D

ESA - now eligible even with dealer in chain of ownership?

Yep, the language hasn't changed. But r0xx0r says Tesla is now taking the position that any non-Tesla owner is a "dealer" as that term is used in this language, with the result that only original owners can buy the ESA. I don't know if that is correct, but if it is, its a huge change back to...

ESA - now eligible even with dealer in chain of ownership?

So, this isn't legal advice and you should always hire your own lawyer and not take advice from the internet. You should ask your lawyer whether he/she believes that the CA Vehicle Code makes clear that your scenario is not a purchase from a "dealer." 2010 California Code Vehicle Code Division...

ESA - now eligible even with dealer in chain of ownership?

To clarify - is it correct that Tesla sold a brand new car to individual X who owned it the entire time before selling the car to you? Or, alternatively, the car went Tesla to individual X, X to individual Y, Y to you -- no dealers (as the word is commonly used) in the chain?
  32. D

ESA - now eligible even with dealer in chain of ownership?

Sounds like Tesla is going back to the original policy of permitting only the original owner to buy the ESA. That surprises me, particularly since its a real stretch (to the point of absurdity) to call a private party seller a "dealer" which is well-defined term that, in my experience, never...

    Michigan Superchargers (location speculation, discussion)

Pricing on CPOs - market status?

I don't disagree. But the private seller market appears to be well over 70 with no ESA. Maybe it's just the negotiating delta but that seems high.
  35. D

Pricing on CPOs - market status?

I'm seeing a lot of CPOs (mainly P85d and 90d) that are priced "reasonably" and appear to be priced under what I'm seeing advertised on cars.com, here, and elsewhere - and these are CPOs with a 4/50k warranty. They are reasonably equipped 2015s (next gen seats, AP, ultra hifi) with reasonably...

    2015 70D - for sale

davidc18 -- did you get quotes from CarMax and Tesla and, if so, would you mind disclosing the three offers? I think it would be very useful for both potential buyers and sellers on this forum. And, having sold several cars to CarMax and several to private parties (all ICE), I agree that the...

Memorial Day Weekend - KC to CH?

Wow, that is really historic - and hysterical that Normal (the middle of nowhere - no offense to ISU, go Redbirds) was one of the original 10 SC and the only one between East and West coasts. I'm back and did not need the Chademo - but many thanks to 75ShappyT and leanne for the offer. As several of you noted above, the 110 worked better than expected and the Level 2 network in KC is really spectacular - chargers everywhere. So, my apologies for letting my range anxiety get the...

Memorial Day Weekend - KC to CH?

To revive this thread, as my trip is imminent - have any of you used the Champaign, IL SC? I'm considering taking 57 instead of 55 - so home, Champaign, Springfield, St. Charles (if needed), Columbia, Independence. The miles and drive time are longer on 57 vs 55 but I'm thinking that Champaign...

Thanks very much for the offer - but I'm going to be around Stateline and 119th so you are a bit further than the Independence SC so I suspect I won't take you up on it. For the other posters who took the extensive time and effort to detail all the various ways I could alter my family's...

Rent me your ChadeMo Adapter - in CH or KC?

I should have been more clear - the Chademo is primarily for use in KC. My location in KC has no charging other than 110 and the SC is about 40 minutes way - yet there are 3 Chademo points within 5 minutes of where I am staying. So, having a Chademo adapter will make the several days in KC...

Rent me your ChadeMo Adapter - in CH or KC?

I'm planning my first long road trip from CH to KC over Memorial Day and am becoming a bit concerned about the lack of SC along the way, as well as in KC - but, surprisingly, KC has several Chademo stations. I don't really want to drop $450 on something I suspect I'll only use on this trip --...
