^^ This was exactly my thought when I read what CR wrote. What they describe is almost exactly the way the original Roadster works. When not in Range Mode, the car indicates an empty battery (0 miles left) when the battery is at 10% charge. You have to put it in Range Mode, and accept the...
Summer performance tires are great in the rain. It’s mostly about the temperature. Rubber compounds are designed for optimal use in particular temperature ranges. Summer tires will be ideal above 40F. Winter tires will be ideal below freezing, and of course the winter tread pattern and siping...
Suggest you get performance summer tires for the VMR wheels, and mount winter tires on your stock 18” wheels. I’m the OP, and I mention this in the first post in this thread. I’ve been very happy with that arrangement. It only takes 25 minutes to swap the wheels myself in my garage. Tires are...
If I had to do it again I’d get square and go with 255 width all around, now that we know that size fits. On the performance I’d do staggered with 255 front and 275 rear.
For the new vehicle purchase situation, don’t forget the temp tag is good for 3 months, and is only on the rear. So you can wait to put on the real plates, even if you have them, for 3 full months after purchase.
So these are all going to be 72kW urban chargers? That’s too bad. 120kW superchargers are preferred for a road trip stop. This is perfectly placed for my trips from MD to New England, and this has much preferred eateries compared to Tarrytown.
Got my car back yesterday, a well done repair and looks as good as new. Summary: I brought it to the service center Saturday morning without an appointment. I got a Model S loaner. It took them Monday to source a replacement glass panel, they installed it Tuesday, and I picked up my car just...
This just happened to my car, two months and 3800 miles since delivery, car #41xx. Glass roof panel on backorder. They have the car, I have an S loaner, no word yet on how long it will take. I noticed the crack just after a particularly fun, spirited drive on a twisty back country road.
Upon...
My Model 3 is finally wearing the wheels I got for the summer months. These are 19" VMR V710FF wheels. I'm thrilled with the look, and the crisp handling the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires provide. I took delivery with the stock 18" aero wheels and put Bridgestone Blizzak tires on those for...
Thanks for the 19” wheel weight correction. 25 lbs also agrees with what Tsportline says the 19” stock wheel weights. I’ve updated my spreadsheet. But they do also say the 18” stock wheel with aero cover is 23 lbs, 2 lbs lighter than the 19” wheel, which makes sense.
Yes, direct from VMR. My understanding is that they do final boring of the bolt pattern and center bore for each order. Both the V710 and V710FF are available exactly to spec for the Model 3.
Also, here’s the weight comparison I did as part of my research:
Maryland resident here, similar weather to you. I went with separate wheels/tires with winter/summer setup. The big reason I did that is not so much to get the winter tires for the winter, but to get the performance summer tires for the 9 months the rest of the year. I loathe all-weather...
Agree on all recent comments on staggered setup. I’m used to not being able to rotate from 8.5 years of my Roadster. I went through two sets of rears for every 1 set of fronts. And agree on more understeer. But on the plus side less chance of rear slip on max acceleration when cornering...
They are Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Yes, staggered, 235 front, 265 rear. It’s the staggered configuration exactly as specified in the Model 3 manual:

1) Have you removed the touchscreen screen protector? Those that haven’t sometimes report phantom touches that may be the cause of the volume going up on its own.
2) Do you have option set to lock car when you walk away? If not, set that option and see if the issue goes away with stereo and...
Mine (#41xx) has the same sunken hood, but only on the drivers side. The passenger side is not sunken. I saw the issue and pointed it out upon delivery, and got a shrug. Delivery was only 5 days ago, so haven’t yet brought the car in for initial defect fixes.
I don’t have the CAC on the current battery. It reports 178 miles after standard charge, which is still very good. Since battery will be replaced by next year I figure it doesn’t really matter much what the exact CAC numbers are.
I know right? Only $4k for the 80 kWh 340 mile brand new...
I have written confirmation from Tesla that a Roadster pre-paid battery replacement contract can be used for the R80 battery upgrade for as little as $4,000 out of pocket. Because of the redemption period terms of paragraph 4 of the battery contract, that more specifically means the R80 battery...
I have received many questions about whether the pre-paid battery replacement contract can be used for an R80 battery (80 kWh battery providing 340 miles range). I have received a written response from Tesla with an answer of yes.
Pre-Paid battery contract can be used for an R80 battery...
I received clarification from Tesla on how the pre-paid battery replacement contract works. It provides for a free battery replacement up until the car is 10 years old, with cash back if done in the 9th or 10th year. So based on date of initial delivery, which was Aug 10, 2009, it works like...
2010 Tesla Roadster Sport
Carbon Fiber Interior Upgrade
111,600 miles
Pre-paid battery replacement within 10 years (by Aug 10, 2019), a $12,000 value. New owner will receive $2,000 cash back from Tesla when replacement battery is installed in 2019. Current battery still in great condition...
I'm trying to think of another explanation to explain this. Is Tesla using the Roadster as an engineering test bed for an ESC system for the Model S? TEG, did you see the ESC note on multiple cars, or just one or two?
I didn't have to install a $1000-$2000 charger for my Tesla. I installed a 240v outlet in my garage that cost me about $100 (parts + labor). I'm scratching my head as to why everyone thinks expensive "chargers" need to be installed.
I've been able to get 233 miles range. I was on pace to get that on a trip that used a little over half the battery. So that's a calculation based on a 131 mile trip. Here's the trip data:
131.4 miles driven
2:26 hours elapsed
29.85 kWh used
227 wh/mi
110 ideal miles remaining
121 est miles...
I had the Kenwood KVT-696 installed in my Tesla. I have a 2010 Roadster 1.5 with the single DIN stereo. This Kenwood has a popup 7" screen. I had all the options installed with it: Sirius SAT, Garmin Nav, Bluetooth, backup camera, iPhone dock, remote mic for hands free phone (using speakers...
Toyo Proxes R888 Review
I now have over a month of driving experience with the new Toyo Proxes R888 tires. Here is my initial postings on this tire. See below for my updated review.
I consider the Toyo Proxes R888 tires to be the ideal max performance tire choice for all Roadster models...
Kenwood KVT-696
You'll need to shorten the right steering wheel stalk by about a half inch. Otherwise the screen will hit it when it slides out and in.
I had one installed. Sits next to the license plate light. Part of the installation of a Kenwood pop out 7" LCD receiver replacement with Garmin GPS, Sirius Sat, and iPhone dock (that actually charges unlike the stock one). Love it.
