2016 Model S Refresh Mega-thread

My dc sent this message to me tonight.

"I can't say what's going to happen on the 12th but don't need to worry about changes"

Did he mean:

1. Don't worry about the changes, you will get them
2. Don't worry about the changes, you are locked into the car as specced and designed and won't get new changes
3. Don't worry about the changes, there are none

Can you clarify what he meant?

A lot of folks with open reservations would be very interested to know if its 1 or 2.

If it's 3, then this is the first Tesla rep that has said anything other than "we don't comment on rumors or speculation". A flat out denial would be...interesting to say the least.

Why Tuesday? I thought this is happening tomorrow? If anything IS going to happen. My DS is saying zip! He said he doesnt know of any price increases or refresh. He essentially finds out when we do! I think he just doesnt want to say for obvious reasons....

Definitely next week. That's why you had to take delivery of your Model S by April 15th to take advantage of the $1,200 home charging credit. Didn't want any of those buyers in the pipeline making changes to update to the latest and greatest refreshed Model S.

Wow, now there's an interesting tidbit! Never connected the two. But that is pretty telling, in retrospect, and if true, the middle April date has been planned for quite some time now.

Yeah, I mentioned the April 15the date previously in one of the other threads because I am supposed to pick up my car Wed. Need to figure out if the changes are worth forgoing my $2,500 deposit plus $1,200 referral to start over and re-order the refreshed car. Not thrilled to be picking up a car that will be outdated before it leaves the service center.

I hope what we get is inline with this. That way we could retrofit what is most likely to be LED headlights and update existing cars. That and it makes sense to get something like this as it would bring styling in line with the Model X and 3 without necessitating any sheetmetal changes. Plus it's all the car needs. The front 1/4 view has always been the Model S's weakest angle. The rear hips are timeless and combine the existing design with an upgrade to the luminescent tail lights and you've got an all around winner.

The Model S needs so little.

I think this is exactly correct. It would not be cheap because the bumper would need painting etc, and lights are not cheap. But it would be doable.

Then I think the X ventilated seats (also easy to retrofit, although expensive). Probably X door panels as well. (Also retrofit able)......

April 15th or sooner (?) No actual words were said to confirm this as the staff are keeping their mouths closed. Body language is indicating they are getting lots of people asking strange questions (like the people on this forum looking for the smallest notion of gossip) and they will be relieved shortly of having to keep their poker face on 24/7. My guy was having a hard time making eye contact as he didn't want to say anything. I'm hitting him with the monty python wink wink nudge nudge and he's trying to remain professional and not crack or lose his job. He did an excellent job and could probably work at a 3 letter agency in the future for keeping his composure.

It must have been a tricky few days to work in a tesla store. First you have the monumental M3 launch and all of the random new people that brought in ("where does the gas go again???"), then you have the pesky MS people pecking at you for any ounce of gossip on the refresh. Now a rumor popping up about the MX config being turned on soon while a rocket was landing on a large floating wooden pallet in the ocean.

Wow, we need to get this over with. I need to actually get some sleep. I can't keep staying up until 2 or 3 with my tablet looking for new rumors on the refresh any longer. Let's get this done.

I am in the same position as you. Early in the year I pushed my order back to late May because I was told by a former corporate employee that a refresh was coming. I was pissed off when I found out my car went into production April 1st. It is scheduled for delivery sometime next week. The delivery specialist told me there was no way possible to stop production. I am waiting before canceling just in case the car arrives with any refreshed parts. Otherwise, I am going to forfeit the $2,500 because the car would ultimately lose a lot more in resale value once the refresh occurs.

Same here. I gave explicit instructions to hold production until the refresh. It entered production early April and DS said it was not a refreshed model. I cancelled the order and lost my deposit. But taking delivery now when the value will be impacted in a few days seems like a bad call.

I wonder why a lot of people are mentioning that their estimated delivery date is being pushed back a whole month?

I ordered my MS two days before the M3 event and selected May 1 as the delivery date at suggestion of my rep. I only wanted the refresh and also wanted to be in the owners queue for the M3 as the line at my store was 5+ hours long and I had to be at work that day. Puts me behind the other owners but in front of the masses for M3. I was told if anything changes in the next few weeks, I could pay the $500 change fee and reconfigure my MS and that I'd have to pay any additional costs for the price changes in addition to the change fee. I would also lose my $1200 referral credit as I wouldn't be taking delivery "before April 15". My Tesla page has been blank until today. Today it was updated today to show a VIN number for my car and an email contact for any delivery questions but no estimated delivery date yet. It also says that I have 6 days to refer someone else and get a referral credit for them.
