2016's getting pushed back?

My car was delivered to the Seattle service center yesterday, so I was able to stop by this morning and check it out. As you can see from these photos, it still has the transit wrapping on, so it hasn't gone through any dealer prep yet. I have an appointment to take delivery next Tuesday.

I also notice a red Model X parked next to it. Congrats on getting your car, if it was me, the next week would be excruciating!

Oh, there were quite a few Model Xs scattered around the service center's lot. I didn't pay close attention but I'd guess at least ten, most of them pre-delivery. It's also possible that they have them around because they just had a Model X test drive event in Seattle recently.

I live in Silicon Valley and based on the carriers heading south on Hwy 101 from Fremont, I would say Model S delays are due to Model X production. I see two carriers per day (one morning and one evening) on my commute and it would appear that the Model X is making up 50% of the cars on each carrier. I haven't seen this kind of carrier traffic since 2012/3 when the Model S was ramping and Tesla was scrambling to fill orders that had been placed 2 years prior.

A question I can answer! See http://ev-cpo.com/ - a great site for finding inventory and used (CPO) Tesla's. But, for my purposes of ordering a 70D with only certain options, I haven't been able to find a competitively priced inventory model compared to configuring it new (i.e. in order to get the options I want, there are generally options I don't want, and the price is higher)...

Could this possibly mean that they are changing something or adding features? Seems that they got the 2015's out, and obviously are trying to work through the Model X backlog, but maybe they are holding off on Model S's to make an update that they'll announce later? One can only hope that the wait is worth something!

According to a few interviews and news articles, the Model X is run on a separate production line, so it shouldn't be reducing the number of S's coming off that line.

Well it finally arrived. I will be driving to the SC to pick it/him/her up on Friday since delivery to the house was not able to be quick enough. I will update the spreadsheet & post on the First Impressions as soon as it's done. Then I'm going to drink. After I get back.

Interesting: the moment I paid for the car in full, the message changed from "...in transit..." to: "Your Model S is undergoing final inspection, detail, and charging in preparation for delivery. To prepare you for the delivery of your vehicle, walk through videos are available to view. If you have questions, please contact your delivery specialist."

Congrats!

Mine headed for Charleston is still "in production" even though my DS says it is done... Not sure about that online system. I never even got an in production email...

What SC are you going to?

I'm not sure that there's a correlation. My car changed to that exact status yesterday and I haven't finalized the payment yet.

I must have squeezed in at the right time with my P90D:

Ordered: 2/29/16. Confirmed: 3/3/16. Entered production: 3/11/16.

Expecting to have it "Late March - Early April"

Hi Shotgun,

How do you know that your vehicle has entered production? I ordered on the same date as you and currently all that shows up is 'March-Early April' and no mention about whether it has entered production. Thanks in advance.

I ordered mine on 2/26, confirmed it on 2/29 and yesterday got the same "entered production" email last night. Website still showing me "Late March - Early April" as well.

Hi Debo,

if if you don't mind could you share the specific contents of the email stating that your car has entered production? No worries if you don't want to, Just thought I would ask anyway. Thanks in advance. I'm slightly anxious that I have received no communication despite my dates being similar to you and shotgun.

I ordered on March 1st, confirmed on 2nd, VIN received on 3rd, went into production on 4th and in transit since March 9 with delivery target of 17th thru 24th (east coast). No email updates other than VIN assigned email. MyTesla dashboard didn't change from "We have received your order and processing it. We will provide an estimated delivery soon" as of March 2nd till March 9th when it changed to "your car is in transit from the factory". This very aggressive schedule. It is clear they are trying to deliver as many cars as possible before end of the quarter. I am very excited and the transit seems to be this "going dark" phase where I won't know much about the progress till it gets delivered to my service center.

Status updates via email seem to be very spotty.I got none at all.
