2019.16 Update

Your delivery specialist (or someone else at tesla) will have to tell you the "born on" day, which is the cars build day. So, if they told you 5/1, that means it exited the build process on 5/1 and you took delivery on 5/3. There is no other way to see it electronically that I am aware of currently... but that could have changed.

Tesla does not have nearly as much available information about the car as, say BMW (which I am familiar with). on a BMW you can use an online vin decoder and get accurate information about car build date, options, etc. I bolded "accurate" because as far as I have read. tesla model 3 vin decoders are not particularly accurate as far as options in car.

She did use the term “born on date”. Plus the dates I mentioned make sense that it’s a May 1st build.
Thanks for the reply!

So regarding the early/advanced software updates, what’s happening to people like me to pre-purchased FSD and we’re promised Early Access Program membership and also earned early access through the referral program??

They are two different programs. The EAP access is the beta team, and would get firmware before someone that opts for the 'advanced' software updates.

We're not sure yet if Tesla will follow through with that plan until Tesla updates us or sends out the invites.

But with the "Advanced" option for software updates, you get the general release as soon as they become available for your region/config. Early access updates are not general release updates, so selecting the advanced setting will not give you Early Access builds.

If you are enrolled in Early Access you will get updates that the public does not receive, and will have an NDA so you can't talk about the release or the program.

In the Reddit notes, I like how the VIN was masked, but "Friday", which I assume is the car's name, was prominent at least twice in the screenshots.

Also, how many people here won't have "advanced updates" for software preference?
I’m the guy who posted those (both here and on Reddit). I took delivery 5/9, got 2019.16 on 5/10, posted those photos this morning.

I didn’t mask out the car’s name (Friday) because that doesn’t seem like sensitive information. Am I missing something?

Happy to answer any questions about 2019.16, since I seem to be one of the few that has it. The new car visualization (auto zoom in and out, etc.) and automatic geofenced Sentry Mode are pretty cool. The new lane departure warnings/assist are there, but weren’t enabled by default (I turned them on). Haven’t tried NoA yet to see if anything is different (I still had to confirm lane changes when I was on 2019.12.1.2), and I didn’t notice anything different about autopilot.

First post. Took delivery of my Model 3 Performance today. Car came with 2019.12.1.2. An hour later while having lunch, was playing around with the app and received the notification for update. Got home and 30 minutes later, 2019.16. Still getting myself familiarize with the car but loving every part of it.

Do you have any photos or videos of the new visualizations? Thanks! :)

Hi, all. Apparently I’m one of the very few who got SW 2019.16. Took these screencaps today on my phone just before posting this. If anyone would like me to answer any questions or get some pictures I’ll try my best to.

Is that really a problem?

I've always wondered why people get squeamish about a VIN. It's not a SSN, and your car can't apply for credit. What's harmful about a VIN being public?

Pass me your Vin# so I can Summon your ride later for a free Uber ride... make sure it’s fully charged. LoL

Fred

Or just walk up to any car ever made and look through the bottom of the windshield and see the VIN...

In some jurisdictions, you can go to the DMV and they’ll give you the registered address of a VIN for a small fee.

It’s a pretty low-probability if anything weird or bad happening, but it is a thing.

But you can do the same thing with the license plate in jurisdictions where it’s public record, and those are displayed for the world to see as you drive around and piss other drivers off. Or maybe that’s just me that pisses everybody off… But everyone can see it.

To track down somebody like that from an Internet forum would also require knowing where they were at, as well as having access to public records from their jurisdiction. I think there are bigger things for us to worry about.

Regarding the new Software Update Preferences

1. I'm assuming one might be able to leave it on "Standard" and then if you decide based on user feedback that you want to upgrade you can switch it to "Advanced", and perhaps trigger the update. In other words, this might function like an "Update Now" button if used this way.

2. As a UI designer it makes me sick to see labels like "Standard" and "Advanced" (which are meaningless to the end-user without an additional explanation) used to describe the new behavior, but at least they included an Info popup that offers their translation.
