5-10 Minutes for Instruction on New Delivery????

We are currently waiting for our Model X, ordered end of June. We went by the Tesla store today because we wanted to specifically look at a couple things. The salesman proceeded to inform us that we no longer receive an hour orientation on our new Model X, we will get 5-10 minutes. The reason given was "due to the increase in Model 3 deliveries". He then proceeded to let us know if we wanted to schedule time with them after we take delivery, they would be glad to come out to our car and spend some time with us.

I'm a little... miffed... for lack of a better word. I'm spending over $100k on this vehicle and you're going to give me 10 minutes? Because of the Model 3? What kind of customer service is that? I have serious concerns and this is a red flag for me. Luckily, we were able to have it over night but we've never seen the app, barely scratched the surface, and I get 10 minutes? Is it just me? Has anyone else dealt with this or heard about this?

Thanks!

To be honest they have so many new delivery specialists you’ll be better off watching a few videos on YouTube. They are much more informative than what you get at the orientation. However I do see your point.

Or you can ask any questions here, better yet use the search function as all of them were most likely answered already.

Awesome suggestions, thanks! Like you said, I'm sure we can figure it out, but still...

The X is a complicated car for only a ten minute orientation ..the FWD doors alone require 10min ....OP best is for you to do as much upfront reading before ..there is a separate thread here where some M3 owner is complaining of “only” getting 15 min to review the car  ...it’s a long way from early 2013 when I got my first Tesla and the cust service provided than...but I agree there should be some tiering of support ...there are definitely fewer X deliveries compared to 3s etc ...

I understand you are upset, I had the same conversation with them. We are on our third Tesla, MS, M3, and as of a week ago the MX. With my MS in 2015, i had my name printed, with a folder at a desk next to my car, we walked around the car and spent atleast 30-45 minutes. The same long great treatment with our model 3, in fact they even let me put up ballons as it was a 40th birthday present for my wife. Than our MX last week. I had prepped them I was going to inspect the car with my third party detailer there for defects. So when I go there, the DS told us take all the time we needed but the guy with the paper work was telling us we can be done in 3-5 minutes. So I asked why.

Tesla said, obviously, the M3 is rolling out much faster in volume than the MS or MX. They want to get people in and out. But there is more to why other than just moving the customer out quickly. They found through research with APPLE, that people (in general) prefer to take there toy home and play with it themselves. Given these are large Iphones on wheels so to speak, that logic makes sense to me. I completely agree with you that since you had your previous experience under the small botque TESLA brand that this new BIG Tesla brand is going to be different. Think about the car dealerships and how much you probably hated waiting around for the car, the financing, them to gas it up, wash it, so you could finally take it home. It was impossible to get out of there in under 3 hrs.

With Telsa, assuming the building process is taken out of it, you could click the options, get your financing done in 5-10 minutes, (Alliant Credit Union) has done all 3 three loans of mine in under 12 minutes, than walk over to your car, learn how to start it, stop it, open the car doors and close them, and you are headed home. You would spend maybe 25-30 minutes.

So in that respect there customer service model is much better than a dealership, and gets you what you really want, to drive your car and enjoy it sooner.

I tend to agree with Tesla on this. When I picked up my X a year ago I wanted to go over every single possible detail, in great depth with the delivery guy. Really only needed to be shown how to plug and unplug the car and where the Falcon Wing door switch was. Also was shown which screen button to press to get all the superchargers within range displayed so we knew what our charging options were.

The Tesla quickly tought me everything I needed to know by itself. Everything was logical and evident to me. Drove home to San Diego from San Francisco and was an expert by the time I got home.

Telsa is now producing 7,000 cars a week. If each owner demands an hour or two to go over their cars they will beging backing up outside the parking lots.

I agree, that if you watch a couple youtube videos prior to picking up your car, you will probably know more than the delivery guys.

With quality so much better, a quick delivery is all that most will need.

I think it's a great to try to speed stuff up. Have videos to watch ahead of time. Have an in-car interactive tutorial.
Anything that can help customers save time.

But the high end car merits some of a sales droid's attention, and more space-time (which is the real cost-challenge) but Tesla's cost-cutting is hitting hard.

The 10 minute 'orientation' i got was from a guy with less than a month at tesla.

Delivery centers are understaffed and they already cut nearly 10% of their workforce. This isnt boutique tesla any more, its big, impersonal tesla now. Get used to it.

Wow I got at least 45 mins including a trip to the Gas Station, hands-on practice charging the car, a demo of what to do if the keyless system fails to work, a full demo of the interior and all the control and glovebox, etc., on my $28k Ford Fusion Energi. I was a little glum - buying it because both our cars failed - waiting for a Tesla Model 3. Saleswoman really did an awesome job cheering me up and getting me excited about the car, she was great and owned EXACTLY the same car ... all that on a $28k car purchase (including federal rebate).

Congrats on your order! What’s your config?

Best suggestion I can offer is to echo previous advice and look at videos plus......read the manual well in advance of pickup. I did that with my 3xxx blue X and did a refreshed view when picking up my latest, on June 30th..... it makes a difference!

We picked up ours on Sat June 30th from Dania Beach and although it was end of month busy, we were given plenty of time to inspect the car ( my wife and I thoroughly reviewed vehicle, double checked FWD's and front windows for operability. FWIW: That’s actually most important because the X is super easy to drive ).

As a current owner I really only cared about the car’s delivery quality but understand your request. There was another X being delivered at the same time and the women was there before us and still getting instructions when we left.

So....

Manual, videos and perhaps before delivery, schedule an appointment with the SA when he/she are not super busy and have them walk you through the car’s settings step by step.

All this crying about lack of attention baffles me ... did you buy a car or all-inclusive super-deluxe all-day-all catering package?

How to drive a car you learned in your driving course.
For all the bells and whistles you have RTFM in this or that form.

Geez...these are new owners and the X/Telsa is different than an ICE vehicle, particularly AP. You have to be snippy?

Maybe in Slovenia it’s easy to drive but In the East Coast of Florida you need to know your car’s capability to slalom through the mass of cars on the road.

I never actually met my DS or any other Tesla employee. The paperwork was all done online or by FedEx. The car was delivered to the small town nearest my house, by a trucking contractor Tesla used to transport cars, because I didn't want them to have to deal with the mountain road to my house. The truck drivers offloaded my car from the enclosed semi, let me look it over with my checklist, gave me the fobs, had me sign their iPad to show receipt, then continued on to California with the rest of their load.

I was pleased that Tesla offered to have the car delivered because I had already sold my other car and getting 300+ miles to Denver would have been difficult.

I had never even sat in a Tesla before, so before delivery I watched the videos linked to "My Tesla" account and read most of the manual as a pdf. It isn't difficult to drive a Tesla. One can learn a lot by reading the manual, watching the videos , and hanging out at TMC, IME.
