Album Cover Art Bluetooth Missing

Good Evening! I am so excited! Today I picked up my brand new Model 3 Standard Plus. I had an amazing day driving around learning the car.

One thing that I can't seem to figure out is when I am listening to either Apple Music or Spotify connected to my phone, I get no album artwork. My Nissan Altima had that. I cant seem to figure out where that setting is. I know the Standard plus doesn't have the streaming radio but the photos on the car purchase show the album artwork. Does anyone happen to know?

Other than that, I have never had more fun driving!

No. Not from Bluetooth.

You can get them from built-in Slacker.com app or using built-in media player to play your usb drive.

Gotcha. It does look terrible. I wish they would just clean up the UI so it doesn’t look like it’s missing. They also shouldn’t use an image when selling the car that shows features you don’t get.

I definitely get album art on the display when streaming spotify from my phone via bluetooth. I didn't have to do anything special to enable it. I haven't tried apple music on my phone, so I can't confirm it works with that.

Weird. I assume it must be the difference from different car versions? I have the Standard Range Plus.

FWIW, my Chevy Volt didn't show album art for music streamed via Bluetooth, either, so it's not just Tesla that's missing that feature. Until reading this thread, I'd assumed it simply wasn't supported by the protocols.

This issue is pretty random. Sometimes the art shoes and sometimes no. Sometimes it shows the wrong cover.

However if you put your music on a usb stick/drive, it will show your original album art.

From my understanding, Tesla uses a 3rd party service to identity music/album art for Bluetooth music. So the album covers are not actually coming from your phone.

What file types are you playing on USB? I get album covers for all my MP3 and FLAC files on USB. I do also make sure the covers are in the tags though for all my files using mp3tag.

As others noted the car doesn't get the album art from Bluetooth, but instead uses the title, album name and artist to look up the art for itself. I've found that a lot of Spotify songs are titled something "<song title> - REMASTERED" or the albums are "<album title> - 20th anniversary release" and that breaks the album lookup code.

Personally I think both sides are in the wrong here...Tesla should just get the artwork via Bluetooth profile, and streaming services should just supply the plain name of the song/album.

Tesla really needs to improve their Bluetooth stack to add features commonly found on most other cars (long-press to bring up the phone's voice assistant, album artwork and progress meters for audio, etc.), but I'm not holding my breath.

It's hit or miss when I listen to music from my iPhone via bluetooth. Sometimes the album art is there, sometimes not.

I have literally tried everything. Different phones, Android, iOS, tried different streaming services, and even tried purchasing mp3s to load on usb. My car doesn’t have the feature whatsoever.

Well this is interesting. I updated my iOS to iOS 13 beta today and boom I am seeing album artwork. I literally did nothing different. My life is now complete. Haha

Cool! I saw that mentioned in the iOS release notes and was hoping that would be the case, but I was waiting for the public beta before risking the upgrade on my phone.
