Does this mean that all hybrids and modern ICE cars, that are also silent except for tire crunch at low speeds, have to use a PWS also?

>Hybrids, yes
>ICE, no
"Hmmm, let me gain some speed in my Ford Ranger, gain some speed, and cut the engine in a crowded parking lot.
Ugh. These sounds should apply to ALL CARS moving(even in Neutral!) at parking lot speeds - regardless of ICE or EV. What were they thinking by singling out EV's?
"Soothing" ICE car noise: Bing video...And those sounds are not soothing like the rumble of a car engine. I'd rather hear the engine in my ICE car than this noise...
If it helps - it's not that loud in person. The guy's microphone is really sensitive. I can only barely hear the reverse sound with the windows up. Going forward you can't hear it at all from the cabin.
Thanks for that belly laugh.Great. Now our government is forcing me to drive 20 mph or faster in parking lots.
Electric car owners to 'choose' engine soundsSomeone specifically said up thread that the law prohibits changing the sound once they release the car with a specific sound. If that is true then we're stuck with whatever we're getting here unless someone figures out how to do a mod.
Yes, this has been in the works for years. Indeed, in early 2018, the effective date of phase 1 of the regulation was pushed out to September of this year.My March delivered production # 329,XXX has that little speaker grill. Wonder if Tesla knew about these plans since 2018 ?
Oooh, so I wonder if there will be an "Easter Egg" to allow owners to choose from an assortment of sounds? Also, will Tesla offer the option for pre-September 2019 cars equipped with the speaker to enable these noisemakers at the owner's choosing? Here’s a somewhat more thorough article on the same topic U.S. to allow drivers to choose 'quiet car' alert sounds - Reuters
That article says NHTSA wants public comment, but didn’t include a link. Anyone know? We should all comment, as the public, that we side with the automakers on wanting to be able to have more than one sound per vehicle model (if we ever want to have user selectable sounds, which at least would make this lame feature a little more fun)Here’s a somewhat more thorough article on the same topic U.S. to allow drivers to choose 'quiet car' alert sounds - Reuters
No pre September cars have the speaker.Oooh, so I wonder if there will be an "Easter Egg" to allow owners to choose from an assortment of sounds? Also, will Tesla offer the option for pre-September 2019 cars equipped with the speaker to enable these noisemakers at the owner's choosing?
