Getting XR Plus 20% on the front windows done today. They talked me out of the windshield tint as being both unnecessary and very difficult to do given its size. I’ll report back

Windshield unnecessary? That's my biggest pain point with heat. I'm doing the prime xr 60% on the windshield on friday. The place i'm getting it done does it as a single piece. Should be interesting. They've done over 50 X's, so it should be ok.

I went with the small shop down the street. They've tinted every car we've owned over the past 20 years. I have no idea what brand tint they use, but it is not ceramic, just metallic tint. I can tell it does attenuate cell phone signals by about 1/2 bar, but I don't really care to talk on the phone anyway, and $200 for the entire S is a bargain. AM/FM still work the same as pre-tint. It looks great and has great heat and light rejection. That's all I care about.

I love having the top portion of the windshield tinted. I went with limo up there as the tiny visors (mud flaps I like to call them) leave a lot to be desired in the sunlight-blocking department.

They just don't want to do it or they don't know how to. Also the ceramic stuff is amazing, it blocks the UV and Infared without tinting it. You barely notice anything on my windows and there is a noticeable drop in cabin temperature. Also the front lets in the most heat, not doing the front is not smart. I think they did my whole car with the Xpel ceramics for $500, I recall it was 1/2 the price of the 3m

Keep in mind that there are very few installers capable to tint the windshield in 1 single piece from top to bottom on the Model X.

We got our MX in December last year and for a few months we didn't have to tint the windshield, just the side windows were fine. I used the tint shop I went to all my cars and for the front 2 windows. I asked about the windshield and (they do windshield for all cars except Model X). The guy actually told me to find a specialist for Model X. I tried a few tint shop around me with good yelp reviews, and none of them could do the windshield in one piece with any film.

First forward to last month when there were a few days of 100 degree here. My wife told me that we have to tint the windshield; it's her car and she drives it most of the time. So we did it with Spectra Photosync at Extreme Autowerk. I think it was one of the shop recommended by @Premier Mobile here for greater Los Angeles area. They did a really good job. Once it dry up I can't tell there is a film on the windshield. We don't know if it actually helps with the heat yet as it was not as hot the last few weeks. Have to wait until June or July to see when the temp goes up to 110+ here.

I had the Xpel Prime XR installed on Friday. 20 on the front doors and 60 on the windshield in a single piece. Big shout out to First Impression in Sarasota. Absolutely flawless work. Most importantly, the difference in the mid-day sun is nothing short of dramatic with heat rejection. It's significantly better then the Tesla supplied sun screen. Cost was $680

Excellent! Glad it worked out. Are the rear windows of the X 10% from factory?

They’re slightly darker than 20, so that seems about right. Man, I may need to push back on my guys and see if they can do the windshield for me. They mentioned it already has its own UV blocking laminate on it which can cause issues with the application of tint film. Perhaps bs, but I wonder if there could be some long term issues with the tint film on the X’s windshield

I've had photosync on all of my car's windshield (incl the X) and never an issue with. I remember on my 2013 P85, which still has the photosync 75 on the front, when it was summer and I would be blasting the AC and the temp set on LO. After getting photosync, even on 100+ degree days, my AC was set to 70 degrees and with fan running on level 1-2 it would be quite comfortable driving. Huge difference.
